Seniors in Rio Linda also have numerous home care agencies to choose from. Rio Linda seniors pay an average of $6,292 per month for non-medical home care services. Older adults who require specialized medical care may find home health care to be better suited to their needs.

Home Instead provides in-home care services for my husband. He has to be bathed and dressed. We basically need somebody in the home to do light housekeeping like washing, changing his bed, cleaning his wheelchairs, and that type of thing. They try very hard to meet our needs and find a person who is able to take care of my husband, but they said they lost a lot of workers with COVID because people didn’t want to work going in homes and so forth. They’re trying to build up their staff again.
Tomorrow, we’re having a new gal who we never had before. We’ve not had a caregiver for longer than a month. We’re probably on the fourth one now. It’s just not consistent. It’s disconcerting. My husband been paraplegic for 13 years now, so we’re used to getting a get a good care worker and that you really love. After two or three years, they go on to something better or just leave the business.

We’ve been using Ally Independence for the last couple of months for my dad. They make him dinner, wash dishes and clean the bathroom. My dad is very comfortable with the caregivers and they were great. Theyre caring and my dad really likes both caregivers who helped him out. They’re excellent. They’re very accommodating. There was one night that the original caregiver could not make it and they easily made a replacement with no problems for that night. It was very smooth and seamless, and I will use them again for sure. They bill twice a month.

We’re using Partners in Care. The biggest things they offered has been good assessment and good recommendations for what I need to have for my friend. The staffing on all the shifts has been good. So far, all the staff people we received have been excellent. They’re just aides, not nursing care like home assistance. They help with meals. They help clean up in the kitchen, bathroom, and his room. They change his bed, do his laundry, take his medications to him (they don’t give him his medications), and help him with transfers. He’s got to be able to do most of the getting up out of bed and into the wheelchair himself, but they assist him with that on standby.
We’ve got two shifts a day with a different person for each shift. We have four caregivers who come back repeatedly, but we still have a number of new people coming in. The big advantage is that if someone can’t make it, I have to either cover it or find a caregiver; they provide that coverage, which to me is a huge advantage. We’re doing two four-hour shifts, seven days a week.
The pricing is a little bit on the higher end of the range, but it’s been worth it. The fact that I’ve not had to worry about all these things has made it very worthwhile. They keep me up-to-date on the scheduling and all those things.

I LOVE Interim! They have been great for my family. When my father was starting to get ill, we decided we didn’t want to put him in a home. We want to keep him at home and we felt he would do better this way. On the weekends we take care of him but during the week when we’re all working, we have somebody that comes in and helps us.
I absolutely LOVE our caregiver who takes care of our father. She is like part of the family. I trust her beyond my wildest dream when we’re all gone and need to do things. She helps us and I couldn’t ask for anyone better. She washes him, gives him a bath, showers him, makes him breakfast in the morning and lunch in the afternoon. She’s right there to make sure he’s safe when he gets up as he has to walk around and do things and just make sure he is not doing something on his own. But it took us a little while to find the exact one that we love now. We started out slow and we started adding more days. It made it at the beginning difficult but once we’ve established a routine, it’s been fantastic. Now she’s full time with us. I like that it’s consistent. I don’t have four or five different people coming and each time somebody different came, I had to go and be there and make sure everything was okay. Interim is great. They have been God sent.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Rio Linda, CA
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
- Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
- Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
- Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living.Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
- Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.

Finding affordable long-term care can be a challenge, but fortunately, there are several agencies and programs in the Rio Linda area that can help. You can get one-on-one help with finding free and low-cost services to supplement paid in-home care through the following resources.
The Agency on Aging administers a dozen programs in the Rio Linda region to help older adults preserve their privacy and independence. Through this program, you can access respite services and the Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center, which supports informal caregivers in the region. The agency has specialists who provide health insurance options counseling, which may help you identify ways to pay for services, as well as legal professionals who help you navigate age-related civil issues. The agency also provides home-delivered and congregate meals, transportation services and social and recreational programming to support seniors’ quality of life at home.
The local Meals on Wheels program provides home-delivered meals to qualifying individuals in Rio Linda and the rest of Sacramento County. Meals are delivered to local seniors who are housebound due to reasons such as age, disability, illness or recovery from hospitalization. The organization also operates 20 congregate meal sites throughout Sacramento County, including one at the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District. At this location, seniors can enjoy meals Monday-Thursday. Free transportation is available to those who need help getting to and from the meal site.
Community Resource Project, Inc., is a local nonprofit organization that promotes the safety and financial stability of qualifying individuals in the Rio Linda area. It administers a free energy efficiency program that helps residents enroll in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides weatherization improvements, utility bill assistance, laundry machines, new windows and glass repair and HVAC systems to improve your home’s comfort while lowering energy bills.
211 Sacramento is a free information and referral service that you can contact for help with finding programs in the community. This helpline is staffed with live agents who can help you find respite services, options counseling, case management and home modification programs.

While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of services can a home care agency in Rio Linda provide?
Home care agencies in Rio Linda provide a range of non-medical services to enable older adults to remain in their homes safely and comfortably. Caregivers may provide personal care services such as help with bathing, grooming or dressing, or they may help with household management by completing basic chores, assisting with paying bills and doing laundry. Caregivers may also provide medication reminders, meal planning and preparation and transportation and accompaniment to medical appointments.
What is the difference between in-home care and home health care?
In-home care services are non-medical services that individuals would typically be able to complete themselves if they didn’t have functional impairments. Based on this information, your home care agency creates a home care plan that specifies the services you receive, who provides them, when you receive care and how much you pay.
