"I used Home Instead for my husband. It's excellent. We went through a long journey of caretaking and stopped and he was in the hospital and back on, and they consistently helped me when there was a worker that got sick or whatever. Karen, the scheduler, Myra, the case manager, and Jill, who is in the operations office, were all very nice. When a problem came up, they were very helpful in resolving everything. I met with a couple agencies, and I just liked their presentation, liked how they were going to bill out and that sort of thing, and I liked the open-ended commitment from them. Certainly, problems would come up, but we resolved everything very quickly and very nicely. Scheduling was great because we had different caretakers over the many months. It actually extended into a couple of years of working with them. Once I started with them and I was pleased, I just stayed with them."

"Home Instead is a great organization with a purpose that has become something of interest most recently in my life as I learn to adapt with my ageing family and the realization that we all have an end. The idea to be able to spend my golden age at home till I go home, sets my soul at peace rather then having to spend my final hours in a place that I dont know and away from the ones I love most in Life. "Looking for care for a parent in need can be overwhelming and heartbreaking. The team at Right At Home is made up of caring professionals who provided us support and guidance during this challenging time. From the initial phone conversation, to the in-home evaluation, to the several staff members who have assisted my mother over the past year, to the management team who coordinates, our family has been pleased, relieved, and impressed with the level of professionalism and caring that have been given to all of us. My mother, in particular, feels tremendous gratitude for the help she has been given to attend to her basic needs as well as the company her caregivers provide. Safety, respect, and kindness are obviously core values of this team. We feel so very lucky to have found Right at Home and would recommend them without reservation."

If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.

Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Alameda:

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed.
