Caring’s 2022 Senior Living Report ranks Phoenix, Arizona, among the state’s top five cities to retire. Phoenix has many appealing qualities for seniors, including its sunny weather, housing affordability and an abundance of attractions. Also located in the city are several of Arizona’s leading medical facilities, including the Mayo Clinic and the Banner University Medical Center. The 2021 Genworth Cost of Care Survey reports that adults in the Phoenix area pay an average monthly cost of $5,958 for home care, a service that helps with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and housekeeping. Home health care is more expensive as it provides skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services to patients in their homes.
Below we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Phoenix area – complete with services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled resources to help seniors and their families to access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Met with Kelly explaining in detail the nature of our needs. He assured us that Synergy could rise to the challenge. The first caregiver they sent out was physically unable to provide the care required. Same with the second caregiver. The third time no one showed up at the scheduled time. After four phone calls to Brenda to find out what was going on, she told me no one would be coming. If you like unpredictability, lack of communication and unprofessionalism this is your company!

I’m using HomeCare.com. It’s fine. They’re very good and very responsive to any concerns I have, and they’ve provided me with a good health care aide, not great necessarily, but good. They also provide light housekeeping, they help me clean myself up, and they take me to my appointment. They get here within a certain time window between 7 and 7:30, and that’s when I need them here. A lot of times my communication is directly with the aides. If she can’t come on a certain day, the agency would contact me to see whether I need some assistance or need somebody to fill me in on a given day. I think I’m paying more than I probably should because they have a mandatory number of days that I can contract for, and that’s probably more than I usually need. To maintain the contract, I have to keep them on a certain number of days.

We used Right at Home in Goodyear for caregivers for my aunt. Dee visited my aunt every weekday for 3 years. She was an exceptional caregiver. She was so caring, helpful, knowledgable and even as my aunt’s Dementia progressed she remained that way. I really don’t know what we would have done without her. I worked with Daryl in the office to coordinate services and believe me when I say I went to her with any and all questions. She answered them all very professionally AND with kindness. I had heard horror stories about finding responsible caregivers and reputable organizations to work with and was delighted to find Right at Home. They were a dream to work with and made my tasks so much easier.

They do a great job ensuring that the caregivers for my dad are the right fit. And they are receptive to any concerns we have or issues that come up. There is nothing cookie-cutter about what they do – they consider each client as an individual, and they are experts at making sure that both patient and caregiver are comfortable and happy in the situation. They also keep the family well informed of any changes or suggestions – regarding schedules or personnel on their side, or things the caregiver might notice or be concerned about regarding my dad. We could not ask for a better partner in my dad’s care than the Cave Creek Home Instead. – Gretchen R.

One of those days the caregiver also changes our bedding, and will change the furnace filter once a month (ladder involved) or anything I may have for him to do. He also stays with my husband so I’m free to go for lunch or shopping. He will help with exercises and will play cribbage with him. On that day he is here for 3-1/2 hours. If there is a problem with scheduling, either way, the staff works with us to accommodate our needs. They are always courteous and punctual, we are very happy with them and the services provided .

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Phoenix, AZ
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.

Assisted living homes vs. home care: how to decide?
When choosing between assisted living homes and in-home care, there are several factors to consider, including cost, level of care needed, and the preference of the senior. Assisted living homes offer more structure and support, but they can be more expensive and may not be the preferred option for seniors who want to stay in their homes. In-home care is typically less costly, but it does not provide the same level of care and supervision found in assisted living homes. Ultimately, the decision between an assisted living home and in-home care should be made based on the needs and preferences of the senior.
