From the very first contact with the staff at Silver Creek Inn, Mesa, AZ I was impressed with the professional knowledge, friendly attitude and kindness. My husband, Bernard, is residing there now with Alzheimer’s. He has a great room, the staff (all of the nurses, care givers, maintenance help) are so helpful and they actually feel like family now. Jason and Kelly are wonderful, kind people who are excellent in their positions. It is so comforting to me to know such caring people are keeping my husband safe. I still have some stress but they have lifted a lot of stress off my shoulders. The food is excellent and activities so awesome. I just can’t imagine what I would be doing now without all of the excellent help from everyone at Silver Creek Inn. Thanks to all!

I visited Arbor Rose Senior Care. They have a group center and also an entertainment center where they could go and socialize a little bit. But everything was very secure, too, as well. They have a lot of patios for outside sitting. It wasn’t closed, so that was a good thing, because my grandfather has memory issues.
I like that there were a lot of windows, and even though it was a closed-off section, they have a lot to offer there. There was outside seating for some fresh air because my grandpa doesn’t like to be inside a lot. That was a really big thing, too, that I had to consider. There are similar rooms for people who have memory issues and stuff. They have rooms with at least one roommate.
Their staff was really on point, and they did care about and knew a lot about their patients. It’s not like they go into it not knowing what to expect. The staff who took us around was genuine and had a lot of empathy for their patients because some of the patients aren’t in their right minds. So, having that empathy hand in hand, goes very well with people. Also, being focused on their job, yet taking care of their patients is the number one thing, to take extra care of these patients. But anything that their patients could do for themselves, they let them do it.
She answered all questions, and she also reassured us that they also know their family as well. She said, "We know one of their close relatives that come to visit often, or their relatives want them to be cared for in a certain way, or if they want things to be done this way. We’ll make every effort to make those conversations, to make you feel that this is the right place for them and that they’re safe here."
Their staff were really on everything. They have people, one right after another, giving them medication, giving them their breakfast, asking them if they’re ready to shower, or something like that.
They have an outside seating area, with lots of coverage and bushes, and stuff for them to look at.
If they want, they can eat in their room. But if they don’t have memory issues, or if they’re a little more grounded, there is kind of a dining room area.

And I thought they were all just terrific. I thought the rooms were great. There’s just enough room. I found cleanliness to be excellent. We saw different rooms that the residents were able to utilize. I thought every one of them had a good purpose, and I was pleased with them. They were clean. They had TVs in every room. I thought it was just an exceptional place. Even the residents were friendly. They were sitting around, and they interacted with us too. I was so impressed.

My mother had dementia, anyone that has a loved one with dementia knows how difficult it is. They also know that the care givers and the facility are so important.
Visions team of care givers are awesome.
My family is eternally grateful for the compassion and kindness their entire team bestowed upon our mother, Pansy, as she reached end of life cycle of dementia. I also want to send a special thanks to Mason, Tiffany, Seth, Judy, Cindy and the entire team for taking time to share the precious stories and moments between them, the other patients and our mom.
They treated our mom as though she were their own grandma; in fact they called her grandma. My mother loved them and was never frightened by them. They always took the time to talk gently to my mom and made her feel special. During this difficult time of watching my mom slowly slip away, the entire team not only comforted my mom with great empathy but they also took the time to show compassion to our family. Every step of the way was made easier due to the empathy they showed us. My family is so thankful for the stories of their interactions with our mom. We will be eternally grateful for those precious stories.
I do not know everyone’s name at Visions that cared for our mom, but all of you are awesome we were truly blessed to have had you in our lives. So from the bottom of my families hearts we thank the entire team for being the best!
Pansy is in heaven now and if she could she would say, bless you for taking such good care of me and God bless you for the love you made me and my family feel.

My husband has moved into The Summit at Sunland Springs. He seems to be doing really good. They get back to me if I have any questions, and they send out information quite often. They allow him to call us, or we can call him, and they bring him to the phone. Before he moved in they had a positive COVID test in their facility, and so they were shutdown for 28 days. After that, we were able to go visit, but we had to have a negative COVID test within 48 hours of that visitation, which was really hard, but that was what was needed to keep the residents there safe, so I have no problem with that decision. We can go see him now. They just opened up here two weeks ago with masks, and we have to have at least a negative COVID test within the last week, but we’re all going for vaccinations. They have gotten their residents vaccinated as well. They haven’t taken their second vaccines but they’re very close to.

What to Consider About Memory Care in Mesa
The Bureau of Residential Facilities Licensing oversees all memory care centers operating in Mesa and other Arizona cities. Staff members protect seniors by issuing licenses, conducting inspections and following up on complaints. If a facility has serious violations, BRFL can even suspend or revoke its license.
Benefits and Drawbacks of Memory Care in Mesa
- Mesa has five hospitals located within a few miles of each other, including Banner Desert Medical Center, Banner Heart Hospital, Mountain Vista Medical Center, Arizona General Hospital Mesa and Banner Baywood Medical Center. Despite the number of medical facilities available, Mesa has a lower-than-average number of physicians per 100,000 residents.
- Although Mesa’s overall cost of living is higher than the U.S. average, health care costs are about 7.5% lower than the average American cities. Mesa also has lower-than-average grocery costs.
- Maricopa County has a Senior Value Protection program, which allows eligible seniors to “freeze” the value of their homes. This prevents their property tax bills from increasing until the freeze expires.
- In July, the daytime temperature averages nearly 105 degrees Fahrenheit, but mild winter temperatures make up for the summer heat. Since 1939, Mesa has only had measurable snow on five occasions.
- Seniors in Mesa have several transportation options available, including light rail and bus services operated by the Transit Services Department. Adults who can’t navigate the public transportation system may qualify for transportation services provided by the Region One Area Agency on Aging or Ability360, one of Arizona’s Centers for Independent Living.
- Mesa’s property crime rate is slightly higher than the U.S. average, but that’s balanced out by its lower-than-average violent crime rate, which is 19.3 compared to the national average of 22.7.
Paying for Memory Care in Mesa
Note: Residential memory care is usually offered in assisted living facilities, and in general, memory care rates tend to be 20-30% higher than assisted living rates. No national database currently tracks memory care costs in the United States, so we’ve estimated the monthly memory care costs listed below by adding 25% to the rates listed in Genworth’s 2021 Cost of Care Survey.
Seniors in Mesa pay an average of $4,969 per month for memory care, although the exact cost depends on the number of services provided.
The Cost of Memory Care in Nearby Cities
In Mesa, memory care costs an average of $4,969 per month, which is lower than the state average of $5,000 and the U.S. average of $5,625. Mesa is also one of the most affordable cities in Arizona, with average monthly costs that are $94 lower than Tucson’s and $656 lower than Prescott Valley’s. Flagstaff, which sits near the Arizona-New Mexico border, has average monthly costs of $6,250.
The Cost of Other Types of Senior Care
Memory care is more affordable than in-home and home health care, both of which cost an average of $5,958 per month in Mesa. Adult day health care costs $2,802 per month less than memory care, but it’s a part-time care option, which explains the discrepancy. Assisted living is slightly more affordable, averaging $3,975 per month. Nursing homes provide 24/7 medical care, so they have the highest costs. A semiprivate room in Mesa costs an average of $6,418 per month.
