Independent Living Communities in Gilbert, AZ

"I moved into Atria Chandler Villas. I chose it because at this juncture, I do not feel I need to have assisted living or any of those facilities. I wanted to be somewhat independent, and that's what I have. I'm in an apartment, and I'm independent. I can take care of myself. I bathe, I go to the toilet, I feed myself, and I clean up the kitchen. They do have housekeeping here. They come in once a week and take care of that. Most of them are every two weeks, but this is every week they come in. There's transportation daily to get you to your doctor's appointments. So, like today, I have to go to the bank. They're going to drop me off at the bank. So that's been working out well, because I can't drive. I don't even have a car. I have to rely on someone for transportation. So, it had everything that I was looking for. It's spacious. I'm on the second floor, so I have a balcony. It's a one-bedroom unit, so I have a complete bedroom. I have a very large walk-in closet to put clothing in. There is a nice big bathroom and a shower, and the kitchen is very nice. I have a little stove in there, a refrigerator, and a microwave. I have a huge dining room and a living room. Then you come in the front door, and it's very welcoming. They have meals three times a day if you want to go down. And I usually go down in the evening for dinner. I only eat one meal a day there. The food is excellent. They have a limited menu. They have two entrees and two appetizers, soups or salads. They have vegetables and dessert. So, there's plenty to choose from, and it's always done beautifully, very tasty. So, I look forward to the evening meal when I don't have to worry about preparing anything."

"It was very nice. They sent me a lunch home with me, and it tasted good. They showed me a room that was being painted and no one was living there. Somebody had just moved out and it was alright. It was fine. I saw their dining room, their meeting room, their living room space, and there was a nice library. It was clean. The staff was very friendly."

"I’d like to leave this review for the park. My father had been looking at it for over three years. Elizabeth was very good with him. Always calling to check in. Make sure everything was going OK and finally got him to move over there. The park is very clean, very friendly. The food is very good. From the moment my father moved in he was making friends being more active. I can’t be happier with his choice of moving into the park. And I cannot rave more about Elizabeth. She was so patient with somebody who is very cautious about every move he makes she did an awesome job and patience. Thanks lizabeth."

"Discovery Point Retirement Community was contained in a big building and there were probably twice as many people. The people were very nice. The dining room was very nice. They had a nice exercise room with nice machines. They had everything you could want there. They had a nice chapel. I am Catholic, so they had kind of one that leaned toward that way. I like Discovery Point, and it would have been my second choice. As far as price, they were each about the same, I think. Everything was very nice and very clean. I praised it highly. It was a very nice building. As for the atmosphere, I felt fine there. It had very long hallways and stuff like that, but everybody had their door or entryway decorated. I was impressed."

"The staff was really outstanding. I actually got to tour with the supervisor of the memory care unit and she was excellent. I've gotten a lot of tours with salespeople/community representatives and they do a good job, but interacting with somebody who is actually there, working with the residents, to me, means a whole lot more. The rooms were spacious and looked good. There's a lot of common areas and they were very well furnished. They were playing games and listening to music. Nobody was sitting in a room doing nothing."

"My husband moved to The Village at Ocotillo. There were several things why we chose this place. It was very clean. The staff was very friendly and inviting. Every room is nice. There were a variety of things available. There was an in-house PT, there was a nurse available, and all the things we were looking for were there. I've eaten with my husband many times and the food is on par with a very nice hotel. They have exercise during the week in the mornings. They have movie theaters and a happy hour with someone either singing or playing an instrument at 3:00 on two days a week. They have many activities. They have a van that will take you places and anywhere you want to go."

"Fellowship Square Historic Mesa is what I'm looking for. It's bright. The apartments are good. They're neat, clean and roomy. The staff who gave the tour did very well. She did her job. She showed us around. The residents were eating when we went there. They showed us the exercise room and the library."

"Acoya Mesa was very good. I was impressed with them. They had it together. I went there and they were very professional. They could answer questions for me. The staff was very friendly. I didn't have anybody negative. The work that they do is very difficult. The facility was clean, and that's one thing I look for. I didn't see anything that looked like it had not been cleaned. Everything looked fresh and good."

"The tour at Oasis At Mesa Palms was sort of strange because I went with a girlfriend, and we just decided to go on our own. It was on a weekend, so it wasn't a formal tour. The one who usually gives the tour wasn't in, so the girl who works behind the desk gave the tour, and she was wonderful. She was very sweet, and she had to give the tour at the last minute. She was very nice, but she wasn't usually the person who gave the tour. The kitchens were better supplied, which really doesn't matter since you're getting your meals, so you don't really need a fully supplied kitchen. Nevertheless, they have a really wonderful kitchen. They have disposals, and they even have dishwashers. They have washers and dryers in each apartment. They provide two meals a day. The staff did the nicest thing. I was having trouble with my back, so she ran and got a wheelchair and pushed me around in it. It wasn't even her job, and she just couldn't be friendlier or nicer. She also told me about the two different floor plans and took me to apartments that had both floor plans to show me the difference."

"Mom moved in about three weeks ago. I think they do fairly well dealing with her. The staff seems pretty good, so far. The place looks OK and the location works pretty well for me. Mom is in a double room, which works well enough for what she needs."

"My father-in-law happily chose Brookdale Apache Junction, and he's very excited about moving in. It's just been a positive experience. It is a multi-storied community, and my father-in-law happened to like the third floor. The other thing he liked was that it has a little stove, because he is the fudge maker of the family. He was very pleased with the aura of the community. The people were using walkers and sometimes scooters, but they were all visiting and seemed to be mentally sharp. Almost all of the staff that we spoke with have been there at least five to ten years, which we found very positive. The food was absolutely delicious. It has a pool, a lot of activities, and a lot of mental and social stimulation."

"I went to Scottsdale Village Square. They were very, very detailed in the tour. It was pretty quick, but we got through a lot of information. And so, I think the big thing that they hit on was the activities. They had robust activities, which is important for my dad, just because with cognitive decline we want him engaged as much as possible. Scottsdale was also bring your own furniture. The one I looked at was a one-bedroom and we were waiting for a studio, so that's partially the reason why we didn't go to that one, because the only availability was a one-bedroom, which was more expensive obviously. The staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly. I asked a lot of questions and they answered all of them, and it was a pretty quick discussion, but overall they gave some really good information."
