I highly recommend Home Helpers of Central Valley for your loved one! From the first phone call to me, I knew this was the provider we were looking for. My Mother is legally blind, hard of hearing and can be difficult to deal with. She also has two cats and refuses to give up her independent living in her home.
Her care giver has been incredible and also does light housekeeping and checks on everything. My sister and I live across the country and have our own husbands both with issues to care for. Home Helpers keeps me posted on everything during this difficult time. I give them 5 stars!

The caregivers from A Step Above Caregiving, LLC pretty much do what we ask them to do. We have caregivers over during the night and they give her showers, wash her hair, and make sure she doesn’t fall. They also check her blood sugar and give her snacks according to what her blood sugar is. They do light houskeeping, like they pick up any soiled diapers and do laundry. The caregivers are really good. We like both of them that come right now. Their scheduling and billing is good. Shelly is the owner and she’s great. She’s really good to communicate with and really helpful.

We have hired Access Home Care to help my son with a spinal cord injury. Because of his spinal cord surgery, his BP is very erratic. He could get in the wheelchair and transfer himself, but the caregiver comes out and bathes him. He has to have suppositories every other day, and she comes out and supervises that. That’s the main care she is giving. The caregiver is very conscientious and lovely. I would give her 100% approval.

I’m using Rescare. I like the scheduling. If someone calls in sick, they try their best to get somebody else to come in that night. They give me bed baths. I actually found that because of the extra pain; I just wasn’t taking care of my skin at all. I was starting to have rashes, and problems. Now, my skin is soft, and normal. They make me eat dinner, so I eat more regularly. I get pre-made salads that they put in a bowl, and bring to me. They also clean the kitchen counter, clean the litter, and handle any odd things I need to have done. They also vacuum once a week. They’re all very polite, kind, helpful, and caring.

They said they could provide the 24 hours post-knee surgery I needed. They sent someone out to assess and decided, 5 days before my surgery, that my house smelled like cat and ratted out. Totally pulled the rug out from under me.
I had done a careful cleaning beforehand. Yes, I have cats and don’t notice the smell. They could at LEAST have warned me that it was a possibility, before dashing my hopes. If I cannot find a replacement company I’ll have to cancel my needed surgery. Too bad that I have to give them even ONE star.

The hospital has setup us up with somebody when she was discharged. We have never used one before — it’s just what they provided for us — and we are very happy. The lady from VNA of the Central Valley basically coming out and monitoring her vitals and looking at her wound site from surgery and just making sure that she is doing her exercises and medications. Just to make sure that she is able to be mobile and she can return to her own home.
My mom is very mobile; she doesn’t need help with other things at this point. She is the only one that standouts, and she is my mom’s case manager and unless there is another patient that needs her priority, then she will be the one that sees for the next couple of weeks or how long she needs her.
I think she is very positive and straightforward. With everything about her, we have been very pleased.

Initial communication with Tonya, the principal of this agency, was positive. We hired them and paid a deposit equal to the value of 2 weeks of services. The selected caretaker worked one day and decided it was not a good fit. Tonya attempted to find a suitable replacement, but after a month or more went but, we needed a caretaker and so we hired someone else.
We requested the balance of our deposit to be returned. That was about 3 months ago.
Understandably times have been hard for many this past year or so. We offered help, in that they could pay back the deposit in payments, if cash flow was an issue. Thought we came to an agreement, but have yet to see a penny of our deposit returned, no returned calls, texts or emails.
The lack of respectful communication and professional integrity is unacceptable.

Modesto Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Modesto:
Address: 121 Downey Ave, Modesto, CA 95354
Phone Number: (209) 558-8698
The senior lunch program provides Modesto seniors with fresh meals once a day. They can be picked up at one of the agency’s drop-off points. While a small donation is requested, no one is denied a meal based on their ability to participate financially. Designated caregivers can also pick up lunches for seniors that are unable to attend on their own.
Address: 251 Hackett Rd. Modesto, CA 95358
Phone Number: (209) 558-2500
Seniors in the Stanislaus County area that require assistance to safely stay at home may apply for services through the county’s Community Services Agency In-Home Supportive Services program. All seniors age 65 and older are eligible for services, which are provided free of charge. The only qualifications, aside from age, is that seniors must need financial assistance and be unable to live safely at home alone.
Address: 1231 11th Street, Modesto, CA 95354
Phone Number: (209) 541-0496
This program provides area seniors with assistance on past-due energy bills and weatherization services for seniors, disabled residents and low-income families. The work may include replacement of broken windows, installation of proper insulation, weather stripping and other minor repairs on the home. The intention is to make homes safer and more energy-efficient.
Address: 821 13th St., Suite F., Modesto, CA 95354
Phone Number: (209) 577-3814
This legal resource provides seniors with no-cost and low-cost services to help with independence and advocacy. No-cost services include assistance with wills, public benefits and housing issues. This includes homelessness prevention and issues with eviction or potential foreclosure. Consumer issues and elder abuse are also included in the free offerings provided by this network. Low-cost services include help with trusts or probates as well as deed transfers. This non-profit is specifically geared towards seniors that cannot afford for-profit legal services.
Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
