Fresno is surrounded by 1.88 million acres of prime farmland in the San Joaquin Valley. It’s within a 90-minute drive of three national parks and has a cost of living that’s 2.6% lower than the national average, which is ideal for seniors looking for affordability and beautiful scenery. The city’s diverse arts and culture scenes have something for everyone whether its Shakespeare, live events or the abundance of museums. With a population of more than 531,000, 10.9% of whom are 65 years or older, Fresno is California’s fifth-largest city.
There are many home health care programs serving the community’s older residents. The Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2019 found that the average cost of homemaker services was higher than the national average of $4,290 at $4,862, while home health aide services, at $4,862, were also higher than the national average of $4,385. Fresno seniors can take advantage of health care services provided by Community Medical Centers, a nonprofit that operates four hospitals, a cancer institute and several long-term care and outpatient facilities across the city.
At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Fresno area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

We needed care for my father, who had had a fall and spent 3 months in hospital and skilled nursing. We weren’t exactly sure how much time he would need or what services would/could be provided. Shirene, who was fantastic, met with us and went over all options. We decided on starting with 16 hours a day, as he needed quite of bit of care while he was up and awake. Over time, his needs would change so Shirene, and the rest of the staff, continually worked with us while we adjusted his schedule. He is now having caregivers come three mornings a week. The caregivers are always on time, so helpful, and delightful to have around. We could not be happier with the staff, both the help in the home, and those in the office. My dad has had every need met with care and respect. The office staff has been available for conversation and advice every time we have reached out. I am very impressed with EVERLIGHT and would highly recommend them.

The caregivers from A Step Above Caregiving, LLC pretty much do what we ask them to do. We have caregivers over during the night and they give her showers, wash her hair, and make sure she doesn’t fall. They also check her blood sugar and give her snacks according to what her blood sugar is. They do light houskeeping, like they pick up any soiled diapers and do laundry. The caregivers are really good. We like both of them that come right now. Their scheduling and billing is good. Shelly is the owner and she’s great. She’s really good to communicate with and really helpful.

We used Around the Clock Home Care, but it wasn’t the same person each time so I had to keep training someone every day. I could never get away like how I’m supposed to be. They helped bathe my husband and transfer him to and from his wheelchair. We have them for around 2 months. The ladies are nice in their office but their scheduling sucked. One of the caregivers we had from them was a man, but most of them were very inexperienced. I had one leave in the middle of the shift because she said my cat is making her sick.

We had A-Plus In Home Care in our home on a part time basis for over a year. We only used them three days a week. Over a year we did have three different ladies. All of them were fabulous. They helped my mother in law with her shower, made her meals, reminded her to take her medications, and provided companionship in general. We never felt like we had to hide anything, nothing was ever missing, and the house was cleaner than when we left in the morning. I often refer this company to my friends and family members.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
