Independent Living Communities in Fresno, CA

"I went to Solstice Senior Living at Clovis. They are independent living only. They don't have any assisted living. The staff was just really welcoming and took her time. She was free- flowing with information. The rooms weren't as nice, but they had a variety. They had studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. However, as far as the finishes and stuff, they were not as upgraded as some of the other places. They don't have better cabinetry and things like that, but they're still clean and bright. I spoke with several residents, and they were happy with their food. Compared to the other facilities, their dining room was small. The whole facility was small. The upkeep was fine. I didn't try the food, but they gave me a little carrot cake to take with me, and it was very good. Our parking experience was fine. They have plenty of parking. They have a salon, a gym, and plenty of outdoor areas. Some of the residents have a little elevated garden that they were doing."

"My mom moved to Cogir of Cedar Creek. The service there is fantastic. They're taking very good care of mom. They call us and give us updates which is very much appreciated because she's a little bit of distance away from where we live. They're very thoughtful and very efficient. The place is beautiful. Everything is very nice. I know they offer a wide variety of activities and also I've seen some of the other residents participating."

"We're living in Arabian Villa Mobile Home Park. I like it because it's about two blocks from Walmart, we're about two blocks from Walgreens, we're about three blocks from a number of good restaurants, and we're close to the bowling alley. Living here, of course, people have their own independent homes. I really like it here. They're very friendly. The place is kept clean. We have an excellent manager, so we're happy about that. I've made some good friends here. My husband has lived here longer than I have, and he has some very good friends here also. I thoroughly enjoy living here. We have friendly neighbors and we support each other. And if somebody is ill, then others will pitch in to help. They have good activities here. For example, every Wednesday evening we play bingo. That's a nice little social occasion, and it's fun to win occasionally. And I've met some nice people there and I enjoy talking with them. We just finished our Christmas luncheon last weekend. We earned the money somehow and I think it's through our garage sale or something, and so free meals were provided to us. It was a Christmas meal. We could buy tickets to have a raffle if we wanted to be a part of the raffle. We had some nice little gifts that way. It was a fun occasion, and it's a chance to see your neighbors and to meet new neighbors also. The atmosphere is positive. I think people enjoy living here. We've had good people move in when somebody passes or something like that. Since we are in a mobile home park, we have some rules and regulations about where we can park, which are not bad at all, but it's just to keep everything organized. We have a very nice clubhouse where we have a lot of different activities happening, and we have a swimming pool. They have a number of activities. We don't participate in all of them just because we're busy with other things. I think it's a good value. The rent is reasonable. "

"Villa Sorrento is for 55 and older. You are on your own as far as meals go. It had covered parking and a little exercise room. It's a beautiful facility. The rooms were really big. The two-bedroom two-bath is 1167 square feet which is the size of some houses. They have a washer and dryer in the room, an elevator that goes up to the third floor, and a weight room. The place was immaculate and beautifully maintained. There's a yard outside. If they have a place open, we will move in there. Most of the people that live there, being older, have carts that they use to go from the parking stall into the building. They just buy a cart and they roll it into the apartment."

"When I go into the clubhouse area of Harmony Bay to ask questions, the people are very friendly and very open to answering questions. I know my mother loves it because it’s all 1-story, and it’s small; each little area is a fourplex, so there are two people on one side, two people on the other. Some of them may be sixplexes, and it’s a gated community so it feels safe. I like it, too. Looking in the clubhouse, they do have get-togethers. They have a knitting group that she has gone to a couple of times. You can rent the clubhouse to have a bigger party if you want to have a bigger party. They don’t have transportation to places, but you can get door to door transportation if you qualify and need it. "

"We like the location of Fairwinds - Woodward Park. We like the size of the units. Also, the people there seem really happy. They're pretty much the same as the other places as far as amenities go, with the restaurants and that kind of thing. They have a lot of different things to do during the day. There are different activities that are going on. Everyone that I've met so far has been very, very friendly and very nice. I think the place is very clean, too. The staff is good at answering questions and stuff."

"All of the apartments that I looked at Claremont Senior Luxury Apartments had a washer and dryer. So, that was pretty nice. The people were really nice, too. I think it was Marlene who was the assistant, and Maverick was the person in charge. You will have your own kitchen in the apartments. So, you do your own cooking and everything. I liked that, but I'm just not physically able to do that safely."

"Twilight Haven's director, Crystal, was very helpful in the process. She helped me go through the steps. I needed to know it was possible to get my uncle in there. She made me aware of a form that I could have his doctor sign to be able to get him in the facility which started our process. He will be moving into their assisted living this month. During my visit, I would describe the staff as very friendly and dedicated to their patients or the seniors. The facilities and amenities could be a little updated but they have a salon and a courtyard. They also have a place for events. The facility is conveniently located in between the family, it's in the middle of where all our family lives. It's quite near shopping centers too."

"My parents moved to Willow Court. I like that it's very quiet and it's also very safe. The staff is very, very friendly, and they communicated well with us. They don't serve food since it's completely independent living. They don't really have a lot of amenities. They just have a community room. That's about it. It's a real small community. It seems very clean. The value for the money is great."

"I toured The Fountains at Alluvia. I heard great things about the management, and I also know some people who have lived there through the years. They're very pleased with their maintenance. They do upkeep. They care about the people who live there, and they feel like they've strived to keep costs down when they can. The apartments are very spacious, with an attached garage. As far as I could tell, everything was in tip-top shape. They had the clubhouse and a pool, and each little space had its own yard that was maintained. It's a tiny space, but you can plant something of your own if you wish. I was very pleased with the facility."

"My brother was in hospice care at The Vineyard California Armenian Home. Everything they did was very thorough. The people were very friendly and caring, which I take to heart. Anything we needed, they were right there to help us. The whole area was set up for the comfort of the patients and the visitors. They had gaming areas and entertainment. There were all kinds of things. My brother was in a typical hospital room that was private. It had all the facilities that we needed. The interaction with the staff was very good. The meals were excellent, too. I saw people playing in the card areas. The communication between the staff and the patients was really good. They have apartments, rooms, and condo homes where you can live with your families. It's a gated community and it's very safe. I found it to be very accommodating in every way."

"Our experience touring Palm Village Retirement Community was very good and very nice. I thought it was very well kept and very well organized for memory care. I thought it was great. The rooms were very nice. High-quality upgrades. Good furniture. Everything was nice. The room was more of a studio set-up like a hotel room. They have both skilled nursing and memory care areas, and they also have memory care in the skilled nursing, which is a combination that's hard to find. I saw their rooms, the eating area, and the outdoor garden."

"We visited Sierra View Homes over at Ridley. It's older, but it was nice. The staff were nice, too. It has a lot of spaces for group activities. The individual senior apartments all have good lighting. They were nice but older, so they could use some upgrades. Some of the apartments were getting new tile or linoleum; they're in the process of upgrading. One good thing about it is that when you live in the independent living, you're guaranteed a spot should you need to move to the other levels, which is really nice. So if you're going to break your hip, you could go to their skilled nursing level. If you get Alzheimer's, you could go to their memory care, and you're guaranteed a spot."
