"My mother will be moving into Covenant Living of Turlock. It was a very well-established place. It has independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing. They have like 200 residents because it's 23 acres. They have apartments for retirees, too. Everybody was very happy and sociable. The facilities were very well kept. The dining halls were excellent, and we ate lunch there. It has a 24/7 nurse on staff in case my mom needs something, so that's very good. We toured some two-bedroom rooms, but we chose a one-bedroom with complete appliances. Every time a tenant moves out, they replace all the flooring. My mom was impressed with the amount of space. They have physical classes, aerobic swimming in the pool, and chair yoga. They have a large variety of activities that are all included in the price. They have a full gym, an indoor heated swimming pool, steam rooms, and spas."

"Everyone here was very friendly. Since I was working, they came to my house to do the paperwork, so I didn't have to take more time off work to do that. They made it very easy for me. Everything was very nice. My mom's room is a very good size for her needs. They have field trips, bingo, some sort of happy hour, and barbecues. There were quite a lot of things to choose from."

"My sister is living in a 55+ community called Woodbridge. They have individual houses, and most of them have two-bedroom and two-baths. They have bingo, cards, swimming, and a gym. It’s not a gated community, but I haven’t heard of any problems, and what impressed me the most is the open floor plan of the home. "

"My parents are residents of The Park at Modesto. They have lovely care there. It's a very nice place; very clean. Everybody's very friendly. The food is good. Everybody's cared for well. I like the place. I just wish it was closer to me. My parents are in a one-bedroom. It has a full kitchen. The bathroom is very well-fitted for anybody with disabilities. The facility is just good. It has a grand piano that my mom could play and it's a nice place. The staff was very good, professional, kind, and loving. The food is very good. They change it up quite often and you can always order or request it if you don't want something on the menu."

"I went with a friend to check out the Plymouth Square Retirement Community to help him find a place for he and his wife. He still enjoys working part time and is unable to care for her on his own. At this facility, they seem to be able to accommodate most senior circumstances with a variety of living options available. We thought his mother would like the little park area outside, which was close to the main door. There was space enough to have parties, picnics, barbeques and other gatherings with friends and family. The receiving area was fresh and bright with a nice colors and furniture. The interior communal rooms were all designed with beautiful views in a calming, current décor and lots of light and fresh air. The social rooms offered easy ways for seniors to visit with each other, make crafts, play games, watch TV and films and participate in many other stimulating activities. Many outings include local sight seeing, nature walks and visits to all of the great activities that Stockton and its surrounding area has to offer. It looked as though the staff could easily manage all of the residents, which is important to us. Seniors can use exercise facilities at any time and also go on daily walks, with assistance as needed. Aerobics and yoga classes are offered and residents are encouraged to exercise daily. The menus all had healthy food options for all kinds of diets. Healthy snacks are offered all day and into the evening, and whenever requested. The dining rooms were nice and the food we saw looked and smelled delicious. Seniors may also opt to prepare food themselves in their apartments if desired. The well-designed units had balconies with nice views and lovely grounds surrounding them. Bathrooms and all areas were designed with safety in mind. All of the seniors living in this community seemed very content, in a living environment specifically tailored to their needs. This living environment would work for my friend and his wife, since it is designed as a retirement community with just the amount of support they would need. Definitely one of the favorite assisted living facilities that we've visited thus far in the area. "

"Escalon Heritage Homes was in a small town, which was out of the country. It was more open and they had duplexes, which were connected instead of three or four apartments together. They had one bedroom apartments as well as studios. I would have my own private front yard and it was close to the Senior Citizen's office, which was across the street. There was also a park nearby where I could take my grandchildren to play. They had great staff. There was an area to play bingo, a reading room and you could have your own pet. There was also a yard keeper to clean the yard. The residents cooked their own food. I liked the place a lot. "

"We're leaving my mother at Casa De Modesto because it's affordable. It's really nice and they keep up with it. We're really happy with it. She's in the assisted living. It's not far from downtown Modesto. It's next to a suburban area, but it's also next to the main street of Modesto where there's lots of shopping. They have shuttles to take her to doctors' appointments. I like the community. They have a courtyard, and she's got a balcony that she can look out of. You can have a pet there. She has a two-bedroom for $2,100 a month, and it includes cable and utilities. She's been very happy with the nurse on-call and all the staff members. She's kind of independent. She had a car which she just stopped driving, so she didn't utilize the activities yet, but they do have a newsletter. They just had a band from Vegas that played, and they take them on field trips and out to dinner."

"My mother moved into O'Connor Woods. It is a very nice and homey facility on beautiful grounds. What I liked least was we didn't get an orientation, which would have been helpful. We chose it because the staff was friendly, it has a great reputation, and it is close to the center of town. The place is clean. Mom has a studio room with windows and a little view. It is nice and clean, and we like that there are lights coming in. The food is really good, and the dining area is homey and clean. They do exercises and they have guest speakers. Next door is a chapel and they have church services. They have bingo, and they have clubs and games. There's an indoor swimming pool and there's a clubhouse. There are lots of Koi ponds and quaint places to walk around amongst the giant oak trees on the grounds. It is really beautiful. All the staff have been very pleasant and helpful."

"My mother is at Oak Haven Senior Apartments. I enjoy their apartment building, so she has neighbors all within the same kind of age group as her. They have donuts every Wednesday morning. Usually once a month, they have a potluck downstairs so the seniors can gather. There's a walking path all around, and right across the parking lot, (she doesn't have to go out into the road or anything else) is a senior center that the City of Oakdale runs. The veterans feed them lunch, Monday through Friday. They also have activities all day long, Monday through Friday, like singing, art, and exercise. Those are the things I enjoy about it. They also have an emergency pull string, so that if you have an emergency, 911 is called instantly and comes to your apartment. The thing I don't like is ever since COVID, they've shut down the office and the only way you can contact them is through the phone. I give the staff a 2 because the office is closed, and the seniors could no longer go up to the office and talk to people. You have to call and leave a message and they'll call you back. I find that unacceptable. There is a lot of activities, but the senior center doesn't do it, it's the City of Oakdale that does it. They do a few things."

"We liked Arbor Manor Senior Cottage Apartments. I like everything about it. It was in the price range. It wasn't like a large apartment building. The tenants had individual cottages. They had little patios at the back. There were a couple of chairs and a little table out there. The place was nice and very clean. It looked recently repainted. I talked to a receptionist, and she was very pleasant. She explained what was furnished, what was available, and what wasn't. I like the layout. You had a place to park your car. They had a parking canopy that was close by. And it was a nice, gated community."

"Trilogy at Vineyard is a little more expensive. My husband and I are both in our 60s and we were looking for ourselves. The problem is it's not accessible for anything. It's an absolutely gorgeous place. But when people are older, you need accessibility. "
