I toured Covenant Living of Turlock Independent Living. It was a little too expensive, and I don't understand why you have to put down a large amount of money, but I think that was very common. Other than that, the people there were nice in taking me around to look at the studio apartments. They had an open house about a month ago because they've just remodeled, and there were a lot of people there. I sat down with somebody, one of the residents, who's been there for a few years. Then I met the ladies who gave me the tour, and it was very nice. I also went to the dining area, and it was very nice.

My mother will be moving into Covenant Living of Turlock. It was a very well-established place. It has independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing. They have like 200 residents because it's 23 acres. They have apartments for retirees, too. Everybody was very happy and sociable. The facilities were very well kept. The dining halls were excellent, and we ate lunch there. It has a 24/7 nurse on staff in case my mom needs something, so that's very good. We toured some two-bedroom rooms, but we chose a one-bedroom with complete appliances. Every time a tenant moves out, they replace all the flooring. My mom was impressed with the amount of space. They have physical classes, aerobic swimming in the pool, and chair yoga. They have a large variety of activities that are all included in the price. They have a full gym, an indoor heated swimming pool, steam rooms, and spas.

My wife and I chose Covenant Village because of the residents and the administration. In the three hours, I was there, I had a chance to interface with a number of the residents. I found them to be informative, not partial, and showed genuine kindness and a welcoming attitude. It was a comfortable relationship with a few of the tenants that I talked to. I did not talk about anything in any detail. We just talked about the environment and sometimes you're curious about where the people had lived before living there. They are very extensive and very comprehensive, from the layouts of the units themselves, what you could expect in terms of longevity, variations if you find that your needs change and you become more dependent on agencies to help you, nursing and that type of thing. It happens instantly if you need it. The other things we were exposed to were the food service. We were also informed very thoroughly about physical facilities to help maintain one's health, work on given problems that an individual may have, recover from surgery, or repair one's body from taking a bad fall. It's all there. Everything is inclusive within the project. You do not pay for it. You pay a monthly fee that covers your own unit, which has maid service twice a week and food service inside the unit if you're sick and have a mobility problem temporarily. If you need assistance getting to the doctor, they have all levels of transportation to get you there instantly. It's nice because it's located right across from a hospital. The other thing that was discussed was if for any reason you find yourself in financial difficulty, you're not going anywhere, they take over. You're guaranteed there for life. The staff was very accommodating and very friendly. I had a tuna fish sandwich and a bag of chips at my request and they made a good sandwich. They recently hired a very well-known chef.
