"Oakmont of Montecito is huge. It is gorgeous. Touring the place was like going to Club Med or something. They have their own movie theater, beauty salon, workout room, personal trainers on staff for fitness, and an aviary with birds in it. The one thing I liked about Oakmont of Montecito is the accommodations. They were like a mini condo. It's got two bedrooms, a den, a private deck, a private laundry, and a full kitchen. It would be more spacious and more accommodating for mom. It was all expensive, but it was beautiful. Also, they offer garages as part of their accommodation. The director was very polished, very knowledgeable, and so compassionate. Their menu was more of a gourmet style. So, it's a little bit fancier. I was given a nice little package with macarons when we finished the tour. Everything about it is top-notch, except that they had private rooms for the memory care residents whereas the other facilities had more of a community feel to it, where they interacted with each other. So, I just felt my dad could get kind of lost and lonely there."

"Atria Park of Lafayette was very elegant and comfortable. If my father were to move there, he would be comfortable. I think he would take advantage of a lot of the activities, games, movie nights, and happy hours. There are just a lot of options that I think he would enjoy. It looked like the studio we toured would be manageable for him. Because he's handicapped, he would not do well in a full-sized unit, so we toured the studio. He would only need a studio, and I appreciate that they have different options for the seniors. My father would need somebody to be there more at night to help him, and assisted living doesn't necessarily provide that. Now, I don't think that's a negative review because this place is just not his level of need right now. I think he needs something a little bit more comprehensive at this time. He has very bad anxiety at night, and he would need more attention at night than this place would care to give him. They pretty much said the button he has is for emergencies. Like he would need to be able to pick up and dial in number if he needed help, and that's just above his level, that's like something he can't manage. Everything was cozy and nice. I know it was a hot day then, but it was a little hot in that facility."

"I went and saw Chateau Pleasant Hill. The staff was really awesome. They spent a lot of time with me, and they really tried to figure out what my parent's needs were. Their room in comparison with the other places that I saw was nice. I thought that they were very accommodating. It was a little bit older and still kind of expensive for what you would get. They had activities like movies, and they had a good amenities. I liked it. I thought they were good. I would recommend it. "

"My life partner is in assisted living at Byron Park for the last couple of months he has Alzheimer’s and needed more care then getting at home. We couldn’t b more satisfied with staff meals and activities. It is helping slow the process down with this terrible disease. We choose Byron Park bc when he needs more care he can stay in his apartment and have a caretaker. We don’t want to go to lock down memory care. Recommend Byron Park."

"Atria Valley View was great, and we liked everything about it. It was wonderful, clean, well-run, and lovely, the rooms were nice, and we looked at the menus and the food seemed to be nice. The person who interviewed us was excellent. They have a big menu, big dining room, and a bistro, and it just seemed perfect. They had tours, shopping, movies, and outings. We could tell that it would be a very nice place. "

"My mother was at Quail Lodge. There was no care there. It was just independent living, but they did offer staff that does medications; plus they also had activities like field trips, and they bring entertainment in at least once a month. The staff was really good. It was in a busy street, but it was also located right next to a large church and close to a shopping mall. I had a couple of meals there, and the food was good. "

"I visited Ivy Park at Glen Cove yesterday and was very impressed. I liked the community itself from an aesthetic standpoint; it's very luxurious. They take care of the property; everything is clean, I see maintenance people, chefs, and the leaders on the floor. They're basically doing everything. I got a good idea of what it was like from the day-to-day life of the facility, and it's really pleasant there. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They gave me a box of cookies that they baked there, and my cousin ate them all."

"I really like The Point at Rockridge. The staff was amazing and the place was amazing. However, it was not a convenient location for the family. That was the only reason, otherwise, we probably would have chosen it. They have a chef who has been there for nine years. He gets up every morning, goes down to the produce mart to buy fresh produce and fresh fish. The dining room looked like a restaurant. I was just amazed by the place. They had a lot of activities. The most impressive thing about The Point at Rockridge that stood to me was the fact that, for your birthday, they give you a whole wall for the history of the patient. From the time the patient was young to the time the patient was old, there were pictures of his/her life and little notes about his/her life. The staff was very nice. She called me several times. They knew my mom's condition so they really reached out and they pointed out to us that they would do everything they could to make her happy again. That really stood out to me and I was amazed."

"The staff at The Ivy Berkeley was nice and professional. The rooms were very clean. The place was very new. I didn't have any issues with that. The patio looked nice and clean. They have rooftop access. We just quickly passed through the dining area because my mom was getting kind of tired, and it was a nice size. They had just finished with their lunch menu, and so the place wasn't clean, but the staff was working on it. There was a gate in the underground parking."

All in all, it has been a very pleasant experience so far. There are a number of activities every single day. I don’t do very many of them, but they are available. "We went to look at Truewood by Merrill. Overall, the facility, the building, and the grounds around it were nice. In particular, the landscape around it, with rolling hills and greenery, was really beautiful and soothing. The room itself also had a wonderful view of those hills. The Japanese temple that was nearby felt unique. The rooms were nicely appointed and had everything that was needed. The food menu was solid. There were good options every day, and the flexibility for someone who wanted something different was nice. The people we engaged with, particularly Annabel, seemed genuine. It felt like we connected with her, and it just felt like a great visit with her when we were touring the place. One thing that we appreciated was that they had an a la carte medical and service plan, so you don't necessarily have to move up to level one, level two, or level three care. They would provide individual services that you needed at a particular time. So if you needed help with the shower, then you could just pay for the help with the shower. The flexibility and simplicity were nice. The building itself was nice. It felt like more of an apartment building. One of my sister's comments was that she wouldn't mind living there. It felt like a place where we could help move my mom into where her needs would be taken care of, both from a health standpoint and the basics of life, but also just her being in such a way that she gradually fell in love with him."
