As a whole, management seems to be very involved with residents, but also cares about the greater community. From the outside this facility almost looks like a hotel, with a driveway in a semi-circle in front, allowing cars to pull up in front so that walking distance is minimal for those with mobility limitations. Those who walk in the door of the facility always get greeted warmly by someone there who gives a good and positive view of the place. The reception area near the door is always appointed with beautiful flowers. And the common areas are not carpeted, providing an easy walking surface. There are also benches outside each door where residents can sit and socialize. You will often see clusters of people there"”and they're articulate and friendly and seem engaged. They are also groups of residents gathered in the sitting rooms and common areas; they generally seem to be social and comfortable. "The Springs is independent, but they have people there who can do assisted parts. I'm very happy with everything other than that they're always changing managers, but other than that, the rooms are nice. The people are nice. I have no complaints with the staff whatsoever. They have a full kitchen, 1-bedroom/ 1-bathroom, nice-sized living room, balcony. They have all kinds of stuff: excursions, bus, games, movies, library, everything. "

"I like Redwood Retirement Residence the best. Right when I went in, the people were so friendly. There were two people who live there and it wasn't planned, they just happened to be there. A woman was there and she said she had lived there for seven years and then there was a man in a wheelchair who was very funny. They showed me around and that was very nice. The place I liked there was on the first floor where the manager had lived and that appealed to me the most. The people were very nice. The manager was very nice. You can get people to come in and help you. I'm still living on my own right now, but I'm at the point where I would like someone to come in every other day to help me get showered and dressed. They had lists that were readily available when I was there. There were several people who were reporting, checking in to do that kind of thing for other people. They'd come there, they did their shopping and all kinds of other stuff. It was independent living, but you could get a lot of care and you're paying them on your own. While I was there, I didn't have a meal, but they brought in and gave me a lovely package of bakery goods that came from their own kitchen. They were some cookies and something else, and they were excellent."

"I visited Chateau III (Carlton Senior Living Downtown Pleasant Hill). It was really big, beautiful, and the newest one of the three. The halls were long, so I was a little concerned about my mom getting around in her wheelchair. I saw a lot of people there with their walkers and doing exercises. It looked like that they were really involved in everything. It was a beautiful place but more expensive than what would fit my mom’s budget. The facility was very nice and had different activities, like bingo, cards, and poker, in a room. They have certain days for doctors' appointments and go out for meals. "

"I went to tour and they had a model one-bedroom that I can only use one word to describe, it was stunning. It was beautiful. It was like the apartment you always wanted to live in. It looks like it wasn't a senior living home. When you pay $30,000 to get in there, they've got something going on, more than the usual place. And it was just lovely. It was lovely, but it was very expensive. The guy who took care of the tour was delightful. He was great. He was very nice. He was there and spent the time and we looked at several studios. We looked at them because I could manage the studio there. The food was fantastic. They had a chef, not a cook. They had 2 or 3 menus and 2 or 3 dining rooms. It was pretty fancy. They had a gym that was geared for old folks. And they had a guy that was there doing exercises every day. This guy would work with you and give you a special. I thought that was amazing. And then they have a walk-in clinic to help you with things when you can't get to the doctor. And I thought that was good, too. They had a nice outdoor area, and a place where you could sit on chairs. It was shaded and it was really beautiful. And then they had 2 or 3 dining rooms. One of them had a bar. They have happy hour every night. So, there are more amenities with the more money you spend. We had lunch there. They had a chef on hand and he knew what he was doing. I had a gourmet salad with grilled peaches and it was just lovely. The food was lovely."

"This is a great facility hands down! They specialize in Dementia Care and have people trained who seem to really care about seniors with memory challenges - a challenge for family & friends of loved ones. I LOVE the mesh of activities they have available promoting seniors to continually be social & physical! I was pretty impressed. It's a unique place w a special focus on keeping seniors healthy, busy & active - doing the normal everyday things so the transition isn't such a challenge. "

"Walnut Creek Care Home didn't have any openings, but the house was spotless. It was very, very clean. The staff there was great. There was no smell of urine or something like that. For me, this particular home just needed some remodeling. It was dated, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it was spotless and the people that were working there were wonderful. They had very caring and long-tenured staff members."

"I visited The Heritage Pointe. They were very good. They have certain things they offered that the other places didn't. They have a calendar of what goes on, and the community is convenient. I would recommend them. "

"Byron Park was very nice. The rooms were nice. My husband stated that he wanted to get the two rooms rather than just a studio. They had a one-bedroom and then a living room. Otherwise, you get a studio where you just go in and it's just one room and the bed is in there. He preferred a separated bedroom. The layout was OK and it was important to him to be near an elevator. They had elevators. The food was delicious and one thing he likes is salmon and that was available. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. After lunch, we met some people who lived there and were appointed to meet with new possible occupants. They were very nice and very helpful."

"The Farmstead at Dixon Senior Living is a fairly new facility. It was a little too pricey. However, they seemed to offer a lot of extras, like they had an ice cream bar. It just was a very homey experience. Walking in it was very comfortable. I was impressed with their activities and their facilities in general. It was nice. With regard to the staff though, I wouldn't buy a used car from them because they were sales staff. However, they had a lot of activities going on. The only things that were negative were the location and the price."

"My friend lived at Belmont Village Albany assisted living for three years before moving to their memory care area for the past year. For a long time she took advantage of all the activities on the independent side, but slowly her memory grew worse and her anxiety became inconsolable. She would call me and other friends multiple times per day in a panic and forget she had called. She became resistant to care and paranoid that people were playing tricks on her. It became clear that she was not thriving in her social group and needed more than assistance with showers and housekeeping. Her son agreed to move her to memory care and almost immediately she began to relax. There she has been able to participate in activities again and the staff is very patient. Her mood improved unbelievably and it was a big relief to me to see her smiling and laughing again. Her dementia is still progressing but she is so well adjusted in her routine. I don't know how they got her to do it but I am very grateful. "

"Everyone here was very friendly. Since I was working, they came to my house to do the paperwork, so I didn't have to take more time off work to do that. They made it very easy for me. Everything was very nice. My mom's room is a very good size for her needs. They have field trips, bingo, some sort of happy hour, and barbecues. There were quite a lot of things to choose from."
