More than 13% of the population is aged 65 and over, and seniors in the city have access to world-class medical care at Clovis Community Medical Center. Health care costs are 15% lower than the national average, helping older adults manage their budgets. Nursing home care is also affordable in Clovis. The Genworth 2021 Cost of Care Survey shows the average is $7,559 per month for a semiprivate room, which is less than national and state averages.
Nursing home care is a good senior living option for older adults who need extensive medical care and around-the-clock monitoring. Seniors can receive personal care, medication management and rehabilitative therapies at skilled nursing facilities. There’s also specialized care such as wound care and disease management. Home health care and assisted living offer alternatives to nursing homes for people who don’t need this level of medical assistance.

I went to Heritage Crossing, and for some reason I couldn’t put my husband in there, and the cost was $300 a day. They were very professional, very nice, and very helpful. If he was able to stay there, I would’ve found a way to get them the $300 a day. He’s been a client of Valley Regional Care and Heritage Crossing is part of it. When a call comes in regarding the hospice, it shows Heritage Crossing on my caller ID. They’ve been very helpful. I met with the staff and we had a long conversation, which was very helpful for me. She made me feel very comfortable. The surrounding was really nice. It was really pretty there, and it was a good location. It looked immaculate from the area that I was in.

My mother was at Golden Living for a month for rehabilitation. She was in a 3 bed room, but it didn’t seem to be a problem for her. The staff of nurses, aides, therapists, kitchen and local managers were very good to work with and maintained good communication. They actually showed that they care, which I felt makes a huge difference for the elderly needing rehab.
The facility is “dated” but don’t let that be your deciding factor.
There were activities posted daily which I thought was well planned. Menus posted daily also and kitchen was very cooperative with dietary needs and/or preferences.

Please do not put your loved one in this facility it has to be one of the worst places. My dad was there for seven years due to a massive stroke and on set dementia and other health issues that came along. We were told this was a 5 star facility what a joke. My family and I were there every day and let me tell you the things I witnessed with my dad every day when I walked into his room No one should have to go through that because the ones taking care of him should no better. My dad was parilized on one side and not able to help himself so he relied on the cnas. In the beginning we had the best but as time went on and ownership changed the whole place went to hell in a hand basket. I have so many pictures of my dad laying in a soaked bed of urin for god knows how long. Fecies all over the bed and all over him. Bruises from where the staff would grab and bruise him fingernail claws in his arm and so much more. I finally started taking pictures and I can back all this up. So please think twice before you put your loved one in here.

But I liked that they have a nice large room where the family can congregate, and play area for children. I did like that the rooms can accommodate the different ages. The bedroom was totally different from a medical room. I suggest they update their facility if possible. The staff were accomodating all the way through. They exceeded my expectations. I would recommend this place to other people.

They also have an uncovered patio that is not secure and could be a problem if a patient roamed because of the busy street. The rooms are semi-private with 2 to 4 per room, clean, and some have sliding patio doors for viewing outdoors. Patients needing feeding assistance were gathered in the dining room for lunch. I didn’t detect any obnoxious odors. The meal menu was typical hospital food; I didn’t see any fresh items. The patients that I saw were clean and I didn’t hear anyone asking for help.

I was moved here from St. Jude’s for recovery, treatment and physical therapy. I’ll keep this as short as I can. Upon entering, a distinct and unpleasant odor hit me, immediately giving me bad vibes. On a positive note, you get used to it. The nurses were caring and friendly with me, also a positive. One other positive were the therapists; good crew when I was there a handful of years back. They were friendly and helpful. Now for the food. Absolutely TERRIBLE. I felt like it couldn’t get more unpalatable. I’ve never been to prison, but I can’t imagine it being worse. It was so bad, I had family bring real food in from the outside. And I can eat nearly anything. This was simply atrocious. As others have mentioned, there were police nearly always in the hallways, standing guard outside a random room. At least we knew where the felons were residing. Heard gunshots one night, uncomfortably close to the facility. So to sum up, the staff were friendly and helpful, not being timely only a handful of times over the course of nearly three months. The food though was terrible, the biggest complaint I had. I can only hope things have improved since. The day I was released to the comfort of my home was a godsend. It’s just not the most comfortable and happy place to be while recovering. Thankfully, I’m fairly good at adjusting to not the best situations.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Clovis, CA
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
