We have someone from Valley Home Care - Fresno, CA, coming in and taking care of my husband three mornings a week. He comes in from 9 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon. He gets him up and into the shower and makes sure that he's washed, dried, and dressed. He also puts him in his wheelchair and takes him outside. They go up and down the block and talk. He just gets outside for a little while if the weather's good. The carer makes sure that he's comfortable and that he has everything he needs. It's just good to have someone else besides me for him to communicate and talk with. His inability to take care of himself has only happened for about a year. I tried to take care of him as much as I could, but then it just got to where it was too overwhelming for me physically. He has Parkinson's, and his body is now very stiff, so I can't get him out of bed. The young gentleman who's been helping us can do that and can take care of him. They also get along really well. They just have a really good rapport, and that's just really important for my husband. I'm up with my husband a couple of times at night, so when I have somebody here, I'm able to take a nap and try to keep my health up. They have just been excellent, and they just treat us so well. They take such good care of us.
