Roseville is a suburb of Sacramento, the state capital of California. It’s also the site of a former train stop on the historic Transcontinental Railroad. Roseville today is a city of 139,000 people, almost 16% of whom are seniors aged 65 and over. Seniors who enjoy the outdoors will appreciate Roseville’s scores of public parks in which they can spend pleasant afternoons walking, playing tennis or enjoying picnics with friends and family. Activities such as these are especially easy to arrange in Roseville, where the summers are warm and dry, and the winters are relatively mild. The city of Roseville offers seniors thousands of affordable housing units within its borders, and also provides logistical assistance to seniors interested in finding and commuting to part-time jobs. Roseville Transit provides discounted rates for seniors and riders with limited mobility, and for those who need to travel outside of town, connections are available at both ends of the network via Sacramento Regional Transit and Placer Transit.

In-home care and homemaker services in Roseville both cost an average of $5,434 a month according to the 2019 Genworth Cost of Care Survey. Similar services in the state of California are just $100 lower at about $5335 a month. Nationwide these costs tend to be considerably less expensive at $4,290 and $4,385 a month, respectively, a factor that seniors and their families should be aware of when considering the expenses involved with in-home care and assistance.

Note: Home care cost data wasn’t available for Roseville, so data for the closest city, Sacramento, was used.

At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Roseville area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Roseville Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Roseville:

Home Modification and Safety Repairs – Seniors First

Address: 12183 Locksley Lane, Suite #205, Auburn, CA 95602
Phone: (530) 889-9500 ext. 205

Roseville’s Home Modification and Safety Repairs project is administered by the local nonprofit Seniors First. This project helps seniors on fixed incomes make necessary home repairs for better weatherization, limited-mobility access and safety improvements. Typical projects approved by the program include new insulation installation, doorway widening and the installation of ramps and handrails.

Project Go

Proof of income and residency may be requested during the sign-up period.

Salvation Army of Auburn

The Salvation Army of Auburn provides emergency utility and eviction assistance for seniors throughout Placer County. Seniors who are at risk of losing their electricity, natural gas or housing due to nonpayment can request one-time assistance from the Salvation Army. Program workers can take applications on a walk-in basis, and same-day interventions can be made with SMUD and PG&E to prevent disconnections.

Meals on Wheels – Seniors First

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
