Quantico is the site of the national FBI headquarters, as well as a large Marine Corps base at which the FBI trains new agents. As a result, the town of 520 residents usually has young Marines and special agent recruits in the shops and clubs downtown. This has left Quantico with one of the lowest crime rates in America. Despite having only one full-time police officer, the community reported only a single crime, a theft, in 2017. Before that, Quantico had not experienced a single reported violent crime since 2005. This helps to make Quantico an extremely safe place for seniors and their loved ones to live.

The broad, flat floodplain around Quantico gets roughly 40 inches of rain in a typical year. Summer highs in this part of coastal Virginia can average 88 degrees, while winter lows typically average 26. The region’s warm summers and relatively dry winters invite outdoor activities, which seniors can find at the Medal of Honor Golf Course, or along the fishing slough of Quantico Creek.

Seniors in Quantico pay an average monthly cost of $3,670 for homemaker services. Home health aides cost an average of $3,861 in Quantico, according to the 2018 Genworth Cost of Care Survey. Homemaker services cost an average of $4,004 a month nationwide, while home health aides across America average $4,195 a month. This works out to roughly $21 and $22 an hour, respectively.

Note: Home care cost data wasn’t available for Quantico, so data for the closest city, Winchester, was used.

At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Quantico area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Quantico Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Quantico:

Emergency Home Repair and Accessibility Grant Program

Address: 102 Heritage Way NE, Suite 103, Leesburg, VA 20177-7400
Phone: (703) 777-0506

Seniors aged 62 and over in Prince William County can get emergency home repairs done each year at no cost, under the Division of Housing and Community Development’s Emergency Home Repair and Accessibility Grant. This grant provides up to $5,000 as a one-time payment for electrical work, plumbing, framing, roofing, HVAC or other health or safety related repair work. To qualify, seniors must own the property they reside in and meet the program’s income and asset limits.

Foreclosure Prevention Assistance

Address: 21641 Ridgetop Circle, Sterling, VA 20166
Phone: (703) 777-0555

Seniors whose Quantico homes are in danger of foreclosure, or local renters who are facing eviction, can get emergency assistance through the Community Support Unit at the Department of Family Services. DFS makes one-time payments to help recover from past-due mortgage or rent issues a senior may have trouble paying. Applications may be submitted without prior arrangements, but they are handled as they come in, as funds permit.

Link Against Hunger

Address: P.O Box 443, Sterling, VA 20167-0443
Phone: (703) 437-1776

Seniors in Quantico who are facing nutritional instability or have trouble obtaining enough food to get by may visit Link Against Hunger. Link operates food banks in Northern Virginia, as well as providing low-income seniors with clothing vouchers and help getting household goods, such as cleaning supplies and some items of furniture. Link also offers financial assistance to seniors in Quantico who have been referred to the program by a social worker.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Address: 50 Sullivan Street, Suite A, Warrenton, VA 20186
Phone: (540) 347-7000

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps seniors in Quantico save up to 30% of their home energy costs. The program offers reduced prices for heating and cooling costs through the Commonwealth Community Action Partnership. Seniors can request application packets by phone and submit them by mail. Income and asset limitations apply.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
