There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Catholic Community Services Tucson

Catholic Community Services Tucson is a nonprofit organization that delivers meals to homebound seniors in the area. The aim of the system is to ensure that seniors are getting at least one nutritionally balanced meal every day and proper nutrition has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of ongoing health issues. Seniors over the age of 60 who are homebound, unable to prepare meals on their own and unable to attend congregate meal programs. Drivers will check on the well-being of each senior when delivering meals and will report any issues to staff members, who will then contact the relevant authorities. There is a small charge for each meal but funding is available to those who cannot afford payment.

The Tucson Electrical Power Weatherization Program complements the Federal Weatherization Program and is a state-funded assistance program for low-income households. The TEP works with community assistance programs to help customers with a limited-income to reduce their energy expenses by making their homes more energy-efficient. There is no charge for any of the services provided by applicants do need to qualify for the program and priority is given to senior citizens. Services offered include water heater insulation, weather stripping, attic ventilation and installing low-flow showerheads.

Tucson Parks and Recreations operates a number of senior centers and community centers throughout the city where residents over the age of 60 can enjoy social and recreational activities. A hot meal is served each day to seniors taking part in activities at the center. A small donation is requested for each meal but a contribution is not required. Seniors are required to pay an annual or day pass for taking part in activities at the centers. This payment is used to help cover the costs of running the activities at the centers.
