"Shawn (owner) has been very helpful in difficult situations with my mother and father, and came to our rescue when my father was hospitalized. Given that we have had 9am - 6pm care for my parents, now 9 am - 9 pm care for my mother, we have had several (3 main) RAHLV caregivers, and have generally been satisfied. Importantly, the caregivers have been caring and attentive to my mother's needs, made sure she ate nutritious food, forced her to take walks, and have ensured her safety and comfort. Also, Shawn has made sure that we are covered, that caregivers arrive on-time and are available as needed, and after some initial hiccups with getting insurance paperwork done, all is running very smoothly. I can particularly commend Monica, who even helped my mother pick turbans when her hair fell out after chemotherapy. After dealing with several agencies, I recommend RAHLV above the others (some of whom barely returned phone calls). "

"I interviewed with Arms of Angels for the future needs of my father who is 81 years old. During our interview I found them to be very compassionate and understanding. Arms of Angels described several options that could work for my father now and then gradually add additional hours of care as he needed. I felt very confident in the knowledge and information they provided that answered the many questions I had not only the care provided but also future grant possibilities as well as information regarding funds for Veterans of War, my father is a retired Veteran of 26 years! I was very satisfied with our interview and look forward to adding Arms of Angels to the care of my father as we know it will be needed. Thank you "

"I chose A Simple Solution because I was able to negotiate a lower rate. The agency was good up to point. We had problems with people not showing up and not calling to let me know though. "A helping hand personal (Detra) comes once a week for 2 hours and cleans and helps with household chores. The Care Giver (Detra) cleans the kitchen floor, washes dishes, cleans countertops, and just plain puts everything in order. She cleans the whole bathroom. Does the wash and folds and put away cloths. Changes sheets on bed. Vacuums the floors. The care giver is a honest person. "

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Las Vegas:
| Resource | Contact | Address | Service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi Assistance Program (TAP) | (702) 486-3581 | 1860 East Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas, NV, 89104 | Residents of Clark County who are aged 60 and older or permanently disabled may qualify for discounted cab fares through the Taxi Assistance Program. | Community Options Program for the Elderly (COPE) | (775) 687-4210 | 3416 Goni Road, Suite D-132, Carson City, NV, 89706 | The COPE program helps older adults who need nonmedical assistance remain in their homes, instead of moving to an institution. Qualifying Nevada residents can receive case management, personal care services, help with chores and more. The program also provides a personal emergency response system. To qualify, residents must require assistance to remain in their homes, meet financial eligibility criteria and be aged 65 or older. |
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
