Orange County provides a wealth of options for its older residents, such as Huntington Beach’s 8.5 miles of golden sand and Disneyland’s numerous attractions for seniors and their grandchildren. Older citizens comprise about 15.7% of the county’s almost 3.2 million residents. They’re never far from boutique coffee shops, restaurants serving local and international cuisine and some of the best shopping experiences possible, such as California’s largest luxury retail complex, South Coast Plaza. The region is equally known for its excellent medical care facilities, such as Orange County Global Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital Orange.
Orange County has numerous home health care agencies with registered nurses and therapists delivering medical care in seniors’ homes. Older residents who don’t need medical attention but do require assistance with daily living functions, such as bathing and dressing, can get home care services for approximately $5,911 per month.
Below we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in Orange County– complete with services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled resources to help seniors and their families to access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

My family’s involvement with Right at Home began in 2011, as my elderly mother’s health began to decline. The organization provided a series of daily caregivers in support of both my parents, mom and dad, in the management of their personal and in-home needs and mom’s evolving care schedule. Subsequently, Right at Home provided companionate care to dad following mom’s passing and his transition to 24-hour hospice care. For what they are set up to do Right at Home provides quality, reliable in-home assistance at a competitive hourly rate. Their caregivers, on balance, genuinely care about the clients to whom they are assigned and successfully meet unique individual needs. Management at the Laguna Hills home office is hands-on and responsive; Chad and Ryan are actively involved in the day-to-day operation and accessible. My experience with Right at Home, both with and on behalf of my parents, has extended over eight years, three sets of owners and countless caregivers. I am particular! I would recommend Right at Home without hesitation to anyone considering in-home care assistance for a family member.

I have been meaning to write this review for almost a year. My dad has heart and circulation problems and my mom has Alzheimer’s. They still live alone in the family home. As my mom’s Alzheimer’s started to progress, my dad sort of hid how bad it was getting. It became abundantly clear that my dad was out of his depth in taking care of my mom. She needed so much more and he was doing the best he could. We talked to him about going to a facility because I thought that was the only way to get the care my mom needed. He said that under no circumstances would he send his wife to a home. It was just not in the cards. He did agree to have a look for our sake, so we took him to a few of the nicer facilities and it just wasn’t for us. After we found out that my mom would need to be in a locked up ward and there were a just random people caring for my mom, it was a non-starter. I started looking for in-home help. I contacted the Alzheimer’s Association and Caring.com (in addition to a few others), and they all recommended Qualicare. And, I found out that they did that for a reason. All of their caregivers are Alzheimer’s experts. I didn’t know how important that was until I spent time with their caregivers and saw the way she took care of my mom. She lights up when they are there. It is an art that takes training and experience and I didn’t have a clue. There is so much that goes into it. The caregivers that have been with my mom for about a year are they are all the same – which is to say that they are all exceptional people. They truly are doing this to help provide my mom with a better life. It’s not a money thing because I know that we don’t pay much out, compared to what we would be a facility. It’s just like those people you meet who are doing a job that they were meant to do. That’s Qualicare. From Scott, the owner, to his wife and sister and the rest of the employees; everyone has been amazing. You will not find a more caring, compassionate and professional company anywhere.

Home Instead have provided well trained, compassionate caregivers. They are dependable and I feel confident having them care for my elderly Mother when we are out of town.
The caregivers are well trained, helpful in finding ways to engage my Mother and good communicators with me.
One caregiver brings crafts and cooking activities to share with my Mother. She also assists in her physical therapy exercises. When my mother is resting she will also find small home making activities to keep busy.
The agency has been helpful in scheduling caregivers when we have last minute demands. They have also followed up to see if we are satisfied with the helpers and if we have any needs not being met.
I would highly recommend the agency because of the quality of their training, their caregivers and their on going desire to meet our needs.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Orange County, CA
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-term care insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
- Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
- Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
- Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living. Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
- Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.
Orange County Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
