Historic Wakefield, Massachusetts, is a small suburb just ten miles north of Boston in Middlesex County. Around 17% of Wakefield residents are seniors over the age of 65. Wakefield is a thriving community known for its impressive public library and the beautiful Lake Quannapowitt. Many residents enjoy the 3.6-mile walking track around the lake, and sailing, kayaking and pedal boats are also popular on pleasant days. Wakefield boasts a variety of enjoyable community festivals including a 4th of July celebration and the Festival Italia. Residents enjoy life in this quiet community knowing that Boston’s cultural institutions and exciting shopping and dining options are only a short train ride on the MBTA away.

Understandably, many seniors are interested in care options that allow them to stay in their homes for a longer period of time. Wakefield seniors may decide to use the services of a quality home health care agency, which averages around $28 per hour in the Boston area. The average monthly cost for both in-home care, at $5,434, and home health care, at $5,482, are about the same. The cost of care in Wakefield is somewhat higher than the national average, which is $23 per hour for home health care.

Note: Home care cost data wasn’t available for Wakefield, so data for the closest city, Boston, was used.

At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Wakefield area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
