"We have chosen Pearls of Life at Liberty Ridge for my friend. I thought it was well-apportioned. It was very nice. It looked clean and it smelled clean, so I had no problem with cleanliness. The person who accommodated me was very knowledgeable and very helpful. They had activity centers where they could meditate and play a game. They had a patio area, too. I also appreciated that they had an area where they could go in and play around like women could remodel the kitchen and put things in different places. It was very nice. It's the best one I have seen to date."

"We toured at Runk and Pratt at Liberty Ridge. I liked everything I saw. The staff was top-notch. The rooms were adequate, clean, and well-cared for. The building was in good shape and well-maintained. They have a patio and courtyard. They were quite adequate."

"Runk & Pratt at Smith Mountain Lake was pretty good. That was one of the better ones. It was a little more expensive, but they would bring my mother's meals to her and they would always take them down to the cafeteria. They always have somebody on-call going around. At the time, they were going on a bus trip out to the lake. The staff was great. Maintenance was good and it was really clean. In the room they showed me that they were going to get ready, they had stripped the walls down and they were going to repaint it. It was all right."

"Brookdale Roanoke is focused primarily on memory care. There are four different sections. If you look at it like a rectangle, there's one on the bottom left, the bottom right, the top right, and the top left, and that's where all the residents are. Within each of those residences, they're grouped to according the level of care that they need. Outside of that common ground, there's a huge walkway in the back that is level and flat. It's a huge area that is a big fenced, so they can walk without any restrictions. Many of the residents are experiencing wandering so they just can walk to their heart's content. There are a lot of people that have been there like the top nursing program, even the salesperson, and they've been there for 10-plus years. They are not people that are leaving like every two or three years. They're very committed to this particular disease state. They're trained from the top to the very bottom, and they have that continued education. It seemed like it was a good place with the initial tour that we experienced. There's nothing exciting about the room. It seemed to be basic. It was not large. It seemed to be adequate in terms of a one-room bedroom and the bathroom altogether per se. It's just one single room, but the whole idea is for the residents to be involved in activities and to truly be outside of the room. They offer a monthly caregiver meeting so that people from the community, even if they don't have family members there, they're welcome to come to talk about experiences and stuff that they're working through regarding their family members and memory care. "

"I loved the Harmony independent living. The tour was excellent and everyone was very friendly and helpful. When the time comes for me to downsize I hope to become a resident at Harmony."

"The Harmony Collection at Roanoke - Assisted Living is my favorite. They have the same amenities. The only extra thing this one has is a movie theater on the third floor. It's a huge screen with chairs set up, but they have a popcorn machine, too. The rooms are the most gorgeous apartment rooms I've seen in any of them. It's a newer building, too. They're really big, and they have things like built-in bookcases or places to display things. It's nice. They would replace the carpet and paint, and when you move in, you would get a brand new room. I loved the staff who gave the tour. She was probably the only one that got to meet my mother. She was so personable and so cute, and my mother enjoyed meeting her. I saw the patio where they have grills and things like that, and sometimes they have music out there. The patio opens up onto sort of a protected area. They're going to plant some things back there that would protect it from the wind and such. There's an overhang so that you're not going to get burned by the sun or wet by the rain. They would do your laundry and clean your room twice a week. It costs more, and it's the most expensive, but everything is included. There's nothing extra for you to pay for."

"I like The Harmony Collection at Roanoke - Memory Care the best. It was very nice, new and clean. Everybody was pleasant, and they were friendly. I watched the interactions between the staff and the residents, and it all looked positive to me. The common spaces were bigger than the other places I've looked at, so there were more places for the residents to gather. It's not just one room near the entrance that everybody sits in a wheelchair or sleeps. They have a library and a theater. The facility looked secure."

"I toured TerraBella Pheasant Ridge. When I went there, they were playing a game, like a little treasure hunt game. They had the patients go around looking for certain things. It was interesting to watch them doing things like that. They like interacting with the patients and everything. They also have a garden there. They help the patients with gardening. The staff was very good and informative. She was able to explain things to me and answer all of my questions, and she was very pleasant. It was very clean and seemed very pleasant. They showed me how they had them come down for lunch and everything, so it was very nice."

"This place is amazing, I would recommend to anyone looking for a place for a loved one Moved my mom in and she loves it. She has friend and good food, and her own place to be if she wants time to her self. The staff is there if she needs anything. They are wonderful, a gift from god for us. "Large, very roomy rooms. With a spacious bathroom. The common area and dining rooms 2-dining areas) are top-tier. Cloth tablecloths and napkins. The fire place makes the common area more home-like. The staff are amongst the best. Their amazing and welcoming personalities means a lot. They have amazing skills in dealing with all aspects of health care from independent living to memory care with an individualized approach. The communication and knowledge is one of a kind which is a huge asset. The home cooked daily - not precooked meals is a huge plus. Activities are unstoppable with a multitude of choices. Not to mention the huge therapy gym with in-house therapy daily as well as the weekly Family Nurse Practitioner who visits are all key notes to great success and care for all of the residents. One of the best communities that I have found to allow the loved one to age in place rather than multiple moves."

"Spring Oak at Bedford is a huge place with a huge amount of land around it that people can go outside on. They have lots of activities for them to do. They have a beautiful dining room. The food smelled really good. I've talked to several residents there, and they will all say that if you're late for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they will come and check on you. They seem to take good care of the people that are there. I talked with the director and sales manager, and they didn't press you. They said the one thing they liked about the new company was that they're not into numbers. They don't want to pressure you to come. There are lots of doctors around, and there's a hospital within a few minutes. They will take them there, and there's no charge to take them to a doctor. They have bus trips if they're able to go. Everything else is included in the price, except the phone. They have a hairdresser there, but you've got to pay for that. They have a really nice library and recreation room. They seem to try to keep them busy so that they're not bored. They have a chapel and Sunday services."

"We have chosen Raspberry Hill Adult Daytime Center for my mom. I chose it because it's very personal. They greet each resident that comes in in a very safe COVID way but in a very personal way. They know them all by name. The people who own it are very hands-on with their residents. They make sure that their program is adapted to each individual need. They have a basic schedule, but within that schedule, every need is meant for each resident. It is beyond what we had hoped for. They have also a pickup and delivery service, which we use. They are very attentive to the residents on the bus, and they make sure everyone is locked in safely. It's just very personable, very calming, and welcoming. It is by far the best one we found. And it's affordable. They don't cheat on quality just because they are a little bit less expensive than some of the other ones around us. They have lunch and a snack, and it is very nutritious, but it is something that they will eat. It is not something so foreign to them that they're not going to eat it. They have all kinds of activities. They have some offsite activities, and they are just kind of getting back into that because of the COVID concept. But their activities are physical, cognitive, emotional, and social. They cover all of the needs of our elderly. Hands down in our area, it is the best facility. It is a smaller facility than some of the other ones, but it is far best the more attentive to the needs of the residents, and relationship-wise, it's much better than the other ones."

"My mother has been at The Summit for a few years now and feels very comfortable there. It is a very clean facility that feels more like of a home and never has odd smells, like some facilities have. One main advantage to me and my siblings is that we no longer have to worry about Mom falling like we did when she lived alone. There is 24 hour assistance available. She got sick once at the Summit and needed extra care and there is another unit close by for more intensive care. We also don't have to worry about Mom's power going out or getting to her in bad weather to make sure she is ok- like we did when she was at home. The Summit has given us a peace of mind that Mom is well cared for and content. Mom has a private room and likes to be able to have quiet time to read or she participates in activities when she wants to. The activities director does a great job of having a variety of planned activities for the residents and I receive a monthly newsletter by email, that describes or invites me to many of them. The nursing staff have always been so kind to mom and cared for her every need. I can't say enough good things about their patience and gentle care. She gets help with regular showering, her laundry is done by staff weekly, and her apartment is cleaned weekly by the staff so that it is always orderly. I would say that the food is probably designed to meet the dietary or health concerns of many residents and can be bland, but sometimes it is more flavorful. However, Mom has never complained about it and she does get a choice of meals everyday. We also have another family member in a dementia care facility in another city and the cost is nearly double that of the Summit's cost, so I would say that the value the Summit offers is excellent. "
