Assisted Living Communities in Stuarts Draft, VA

"My mother moved into Stuarts Drafts Retirement Community, it's very nice, and we liked it very much. The food is very good, and the staff is very nice, and attentive. They serve a dinner meal daily, there's an additional charge for that, and they have an activity calendar that has trips, tea parties, bingo, exercising, movies, and music every week. They have a physical therapy company that is located there, but they charge for the physical therapy of course. It's very clean, well-cared for, she has a very nice studio apartment with a full kitchen and comfortable bathroom, but they also have 1 and 2-bedrooms. Some are in a buildings, and some are separate, like in a house setting. It's family-owned, and the family is on site frequently. It has a great reputation in the community. The price is the most reasonable we found anywhere, and it's in a beautiful, rural location. She has a great mountain view, so it's very pretty."

"Overall the Living Waters facility was accommodating and provided an intimate environment for my grandparents. We liked that the facility was a smaller remodelled house instead of a more institutionalized building. The staff was polite and when we experienced problem staff - management responded quickly. Food was always sub-par but again since the overall facility was large - the kitchen and dining areas were close enough to talk with the cooks - which made the overall feeling comfortable. We were disappointed with the lack of daily activities - most residents watched television most of the time. "

"All I can say Is Wow! Shenandoah Nursing was the best choice for our father. My family began looking for long term care for my father and we've been on Shenandoah's wait list for a long while. I can see now why there Is a wait list. The staff are wonderful, treated each one of my sisters and our father like he was family. They went above and beyond what you would expect to make our father comfortable and he's a particular gentleman to say the least. Everyone there Is happy to be there, staff included and It shows. The director of nursing and her team of nursing staff always made us feel comfortable. Invited us to call or stop in at anytime. What a relief that was to us knowing our father was getting the best care. The facility Is immaculate, food was great and we didn't want for anything while our father was a resident. Thank you Shenandoah nursing and rehab."

"My parents really liked The Retreat at Fishersville. They liked that it was small and the people were very friendly. It was a very beautiful, calm setting. Everything was very pretty about it, but it was a little hard for my mom to get around. It was spread out a lot, so we had to get her in a wheelchair and take her around. Other than that, it was very pretty. The rooms they showed us were wonderful. They were very up-to-date. Thy didn't look dated at all. They had plenty of space. The staff was very knowledgeable and very helpful to me. They had plenty of activities. They had a calendar of events and it looked like the menu was very well thought out. It's very convenient to our local hospital in case of emergency."

"I went to Birch Gardens of Royal Care. It is a very pleasant location and a very nicely designed facility. Big space. It had plenty of places for the residents to sit and enjoy games and activities and a nice garden out back. The bedrooms and the bathrooms are all well-designed for people with varying degrees of disability. The staff is very respectful and helpful. The building is very attractive and very clean. It's an older building, but it's well-kept."

"I toured Birch Ridge. I like that it's small. I like the grounds. The man couldn't have been nicer to answer my questions. I've had a good experience. The facility was very clean. It probably needs to be modernized and updated. It has the feel of being old, but it was clean. The rooms are nice, but their common area, the furniture, it's old."

"This is a very friendly place by all,,residents and staff, During this past year every attempt was made to protect our health and also provide activities to ease our isolation. Staff covered for each other when needed. Food choices are varied and wholesome. I would recommend Summit Square to anyone looking for a safe and caring retirement community. "

"My husband was at Waynesboro Manor for awhile. Their environment was very good, and his room was very nice. I was very pleased with all of their staff. My experience there was very good until the last day. I found him sitting in a room by himself very soiled and dehydrated. I think they need to check on their patients more often. "

"I like Oak Grove Manor. We could visit mom any time. We just let them know, and we could take her out to eat. We just had to take her to her doctors' appointments, which wasn't bad. They were more open about things, but they're a small facility, too. They cared more, they served home-cooked food, and I think mom would like that more because she's more of a country girl. The staff was really nice. The woman who runs the place wasn't there at that time, but any questions we asked, if they couldn't tell us, she said for us to call her back and talk to her, and we did go back and talk to her. I really liked it. The staff was very helpful and tried to tell us everything they could. They barbecued outside a lot during the summer. They'd have hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken, and I think mom would enjoy it. They don't have very many people there. I liked that a lot because it's privately owned by a family. It was an older home, but it looked clean to me. My sister and brother went with me, and they all liked it. It wasn't as fancy as the others."

"My aunt is a resident of The Legacy at North Augusta. The staff is limited because that's the way the world works these days. The family needed to supplement with additional caregivers throughout the day, each day, and so that was an additional cost for them. They just don't have enough staff to maintain that level of care for memory care people who just need 24/7 care. It's not the fault of the company, it's just the way the situation is but I couldn't give them a five because of that. The place is very nicely done."

"The one bedroom apartments in Assisted Living are a nice size. The staff is kind and very friendly. The food is really good-especially the soups! If a resident is not able to go to the dining room, meals are brought to them. During the last 2 years, they have kept in touch with families as to what was going on, when vaccines were being given, and visitation restrictions. Musical groups come, they have movies, scenic drives and daily exercise, among other activities. It is expensive, but I feel that my parent is safe and cared for."

"My mother-in-law had stayed in the assisted living at The Lodge for a year. We chose it because it was a new center and it was in our town. It was clean, spacious and had a high ratio of caregivers to clients. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was extraordinary. I liked that it was like a community with three levels of cares. It had everything you needed. It had arts, movies, theater. They brought in people from the UVA that were working on research with yoga and dementia. They had all the games, arts and crafts, and there were people who came in just to talk to them. They had activity directors that exercise them on whatever level they were at. It had an exercise room, beautician's room and art room. It had a pub, a deli and a little country store. It was proximate to a golf course and other stores nearby. It was like a little village and my mother-in-law was happy there. The view was beautiful for them. They had a garden where they could work on. They had physical therapy on sight. It had independent living, assisted living, higher level assisted living and dementia care. They did a really nice job. "

"Mountainside Senior Living is TRULY a hidden gem. The facility, staff, assistance and dining are second to none!! My mom absolutely loves it here!! If I could give this place 10 stars I would, but 5 is the highest!! I surely hope that when I am of age to enter an assisted living facility, Mountainside is still available!!!"
