"We are extremely pleased with Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes. It is a Christian community. I have sisters and brothers that go by there. We have developed a first-name basis on the attendance. They're extremely educated and well versed in caring for elderly people. We find them to be extremely helpful. We are very pleased. Mom wants to come home, of course, but knowing that that's not possible anymore, we are pleased that she's getting the care that we feel she needs. She's just in assisted living. The dining area is pleasing. The rooms are normal sized and it has an adjoining bathroom. We have requested a single room with a bathroom, but it wasn't available yet. The one that she has is adjoining. There are two rooms supplied by the one bathroom. She seems to be happy with the meals. I don't think any of us have gone to eat a meal with them, but she seems to be pleased with it. They have personal care. They have people that come in to do hair and nails and stuff like that. There's a lady that comes in and does exercise with them if they wanted therapy. There's a doctor that visits the site once a week. They have church services on Sunday morning. During the week, they have craft classes."

"I have an aunt and an uncle who has been living at Summit Square for almost 3 years. It was the best I've ever seen. There is nothing that Summit Square will not take care of. It's also one of the few places that have transportation, not just to a grocery store but to the doctor's office and church. They've got it all covered. It's a very active, thriving senior community where they support you in every way thinkable. It's one of the happiest communities I've ever walked in. They've got everything from a studio up to 2-bedrooms. It was a former hospital that was converted. But they're just standard-sized rooms. They're not overly large or overly small. My aunt and uncle have a 2-bedroom apartment with one and a half bath, in addition to a decent-sized living area with a kitchenette that's handicap accessible, and they have a den at the back. You can also bring pets. They have a brand new fitness center with all the machines. The physical therapist will come up to your room and do your therapy if you need it. My uncle used to have a very small social life until he lived here. Now, he is playing cards, he goes to Bible studies, he exercises 3 times a week, and he's really upset when he misses the ice cream truck on the birthday month. If you're a regular in one of the activities and you don't show up, they're going to check on you. They've got two regular dining areas and one sandwich shop. If you're sick or need help, they will deliver the food to your room. People are happy in the halls, they greet each other, they know each other, and they know what's going on. It is a true community. If I could rate them 10 stars, I'd give them 10 stars. "

"We went and saw Bridgewater Retirement Community. We were very impressed by them. We were visiting friends who live there. They're in a duplex house. They have their own quarters and garage and all that. They have access to all common areas, which is quite extensive recreations like exercise, barbershops, beauty shops, and all sorts of stuff in there. Plus, if and when they need it, they can move into assisted living. And then beyond that, if they need it, they can move into skilled nursing care. It's all there in one campus, and it is run by the same people with all the same general facilities available to everyone, but then specifically, depending on what level of care you're at. And we were very impressed by the whole thing. It seems well-run and clean. It's the a kind of facility that we were hoping to find for my sister-in-law. She is not fabulously wealthy, but she has plenty of money to go into a place like that. It's a great place. It's very modern, very well-kept, and beautifully decorated. We didn't eat there, but what this place does is they give you credits for some restaurants in the area that you can go to. So that was nice and well done. Our friend told us that they have a dining area there that is chef-prepared level of dining. In terms of activities, it's the widest variety you can think of. They have hobby craft activities. The staff working there were very friendly and helpful. Just really, nice people. It costs a lot to get there. I think it's very good value for the money. My wife and I couldn't afford it, but for those who can afford it, I think none of them are feeling cheated in any way. It's not just the facility; it's the people. They go out of their way to do whatever you need them to do for you. They're anxious to help. They're pleasant and friendly. It's hard to put a value on that because they seem very genuine people. "

"The Presbyterian was too big. Everything was so nice. I would be happy to move there myself, but she thought it was too big. The apartments were very nice. The security was wonderful. I thought that was great. "

"I went to see the assisted living at English Meadows Harrisonburg Campus. This was my first time experiencing a modern home healthcare place, and there were some positive and negative things. Overall, it was a positive experience, but there is one thing that sticks out in my head. I showed up for my appointment and there was a guy making chocolate chip cookies. When I went into the room with the person I was talking with, her boss brought these cookies in, which I thought was nice. Then we walked around the buildings and did a bunch of things. When we came back, two ladies were holding and hiding the cookies. It was uncomfortable, and I did not like that. It was a staff member and her boss who met me and they were very kind and very thorough. I had a lot of questions and they answered them. I enjoyed my time as I walked through with them. I liked the spaces of accommodations and individual living. I liked the open areas for when your parents have to live in the assisted living part of the home. They had the menus on the board and I took a photo of them because I'm all about health and nutrition. We have to make sure that if my mom is going to be living there, she'll be getting those nutrients. I think a lot of the food here was like Sysco products rather than fresh ones. It was a very nice building. The layouts and the outside areas were very nice. There were a lot of places for people to go and do different things, even gardening."

"My mom is at VMRC is in their nursing home facility, and we are very happy with what she had there. She is getting really good care. The rooms are great. The food is probably average to above average. They go on trips, and they also do arts and crafts. They have a bus that takes them. "
