"Virginian was the one I liked the most, but it was an independent living facility. I didn't want to move from one independent to another, but it was a nice place. I would have loved to move there. They had ground-floor apartments with patios and balconies on the other floors. They had a nice puzzle room. The food was decent. They did a lot of things that would be covered in an assisted living facility, but they weren't chartered that way, so I would not have been able to easily carry my VA aid and assistance over there to help pay for it. The food was very good. It was clean as could be. The staff was outstanding. The facility was very well taken care of."

"I enjoyed my tour at Heritage Oaks, I liked it. I like that as a community, they have activities, it's a structured environment, and it's a nice and clean place. The apartment I saw had a nice design, roomy, with its own kitchen and bathroom. It was a nice and spacious apartment. The staffs who accommodated me during the tour were friendly and helpful. I also saw a gym, on Fridays they take the residents wherever they want to go. They would take them out to dinners and come back to pick them up. So I like the way their transportation system was set up, it's overall a nice place."

"I went to Darby House and filled out an application form, but they have a six-month to one-year waiting list. The place was nice and large. It's well located. It looked very clean and efficient. I actually talked to a few residents there who said they liked it there. The staff was efficient and very polite. They answered all my questions. They had a little gym, a game room, a WiFi hook up, and they had a business room for computers. I felt comfortable there."

"I have visited Tuckahoe Pines Retirement Community, which is a country club community. It was absolutely beautiful. The apartments were beautiful, and the facilities were outstanding. It was also higher priced. Their cheapest apartment was more expensive than the most expensive apartment in the place I ended up choosing. All they had was independent living. The people that I was in contact with were marvelous. If you drive upfront and hand the concierge your key, they'll park your car for you. They really go all out, but it wasn't in my price range. I wasn't crazy about the way they served their meals. It was kind of like going through a school lunch line. You got a tray and went down the line. You say what you want, and they put each thing on your plate. Whereas in the other community, it was like a restaurant. A waitress would come to your table, and she would take your order. You would have all kinds of choices. You make those choices, and then she brings it to you. I just didn't like that aspect when it comes to their food service, but the facilities there are gorgeous."

"The Dogwood Terrace by Barclay independent living community, is very nice and has a clean environment. From what I observed during my tour, the residents seemed to have a lot of different activities that they engaged in. They had appropriate rooms for various activities, too. They had a chapel, a library, and a multipurpose room."

"I toured Harmony at Hanover. The people were very nice. They cared about the people that they were taking care of. It was really clean. I was surprised it smelled like home. It was beautiful. I liked it. They let me see everything in the manager's office. They even showed me the part that was remodeled. The people there seemed to be happy. I loved the way it looked and how welcoming the workers were when you got there. They didn't know I was coming, and this is surprising. It was nice. Some people have a one-bedroom. Some people got a two-bedroom, and I think it was only one person who has a studio apartment. They had a bookshelf with books and games on it for the people to use, and it has a little garden there at the back."

"We chose The Harmony Collection at Hanover for my parents because they have both independent living and assisted living. We are also very pleased with the staff and the apartment they moved into. It just seemed like a good fit. Luckily, up until this point, they've been very happy. They are there under independent living care. The place is large, very spacious, and probably the nicest apartment of all the ones we had the chance to look at. One meal a day is included. My parents usually have dinner, and they're very happy with the food. I have tried it, too, and it was very good. They have activities daily, and my mother has been able to partake in some of those activities. My father doesn't have quite the ability, but he has participated as well. They have happy hours twice a week, and they have additional celebrations. They're having a formal celebration this evening, where they're all dressed in formal attire. It's been very good and very pleasing."

"We have been at Verena at the Glen six months and are very pleased that we made this choice. The first thing that springs to mind in describing our experience is “friendliness” – the staff are uniformly very friendly and accommodating; that is reflected in the 120 or so residents. Obviously, that makes for a very pleasant environment. We find our apartment comfortable with sufficient space. We appreciate having the small balcony that we do. Other advantages are a full kitchen and washers and dryers in each unit. We always find convenient parking even without the $50-a-month expense of a reserved space. In short order we became accustomed to the provision of breakfast and a copious lunch but no dinner; there always is enough left over from lunch to meet our evening meal needs. The food is quite good, with a variety of selections, and the staff are always helpful. Available activities are manifold and often imaginative. No resident could legitimately complain of having nothing to do; the dilemma, if there is one, is what fun thing(s) should we join today."

"Harvest Glen Community is a mile from my house. I like that it's a single floor, and it's a nice open layout inside. They do have a clubhouse and a pool. I think they do all the yard work with outside maintenance. The place is fine. I have been there a lot because I know older people that live there. They have garages attached, which is nice. The staff was very nice, they let us in, and they were fine."

"My parents are still in Forest Creek. It is a decent place. It's for 55-plus only. What I like best is the accommodations. Everything is on one floor. It's a really clean area, which is what I like best. As far as the maintenance, the worst thing is the response time when you're trying to get some questions answered. The response time can really be better. My parents make their own food. They have activities. It's not much, but my parents don't participate at this time. They have a community center there that give programs or events. They have a salon or someone who does hair. For what they're paying for, it's pretty average for what they have."

"My sister-in-law is at Lucy Corr. They have physical therapy on-site. In the area that she is in now, it is a double bedroom but spacious enough that everyone has their own privacy. They have a day room for any activities and a dining room where the residents go to eat. They have a social worker that conducts a plan of care, which I'm involved with every two or three months when they have the plan of care meeting. The place is very clean and well-kept. The floors are shiny. Food is prepared well. I would certainly recommend Lucy Corr to anyone who has a loved one that needs either short-term or long-term care. Each unit has licensed nurses and certified nurse assistants that take care of the patients for personal care, bathing, and so on. Their laundry gets done once a week. They escort them to the dining room, so they can have their meals. Most of the time they're having activities in the dayroom. With regards to value for money, I think they are providing good service."

"The tour at Brandermill Woods was good. The salesperson was knowledgeable, and she showed us all the areas of the building. It's a much larger facility, and it's very clean, well-kept, and maintained. The facility itself is going to be in better condition. The problem with Brandermill was their dining facility. Because of COVID, their dining room isn't even open, so they're preparing meals and residents can pick up their meals at this time. The downside is that the wait is a year to two years. They have a clubhouse. They have two dining rooms: one is less formal and the other is more formal. They're very nice. They have a bar, a pool, an exercise room, and a media room. They have a lot of amenities. We saw both apartments and cottages."

"The tour at Lucy Corr Village ADC was good. The facility was good, starting with the salesperson. She was very good and knowledgeable. She was very receptive and a good listener. She would repeat what we had to ask, and she would often refer back to them. She was a good listener in the sense that she listened to how many kids they had, where they were living, and things of that nature. She was very personable, so she was very good at that part. They had some amenities, such as exercise area and a beauty shop. They don't have a pool or anything like that. They have transportation to various appointments, and they take their clientele to grocery stores and things of that nature. We saw both apartments that were connected to the main building and cottages as well."

"The best thing Atlantic at Charter Colony is the camaraderie of all the people who live here. It's like one big family. I like the movie nights. I don't like having to pay for laundry, and I don't like the fact that they changed the soda machines out and brought cans in. That's my two big complaints. The apartments are nice. I have a two-bedroom apartment, and I'm preparing my own food. All of the programs are put on by or sponsored by people who live here. We have a movie night with hot dogs and snacks. There are card games that go on all week long, an aerobics class, a puzzle room, a small gym, and just about everything that you want. I've never had any problems. Maintenance is taking care of the issues I have had immediately. The staff is good. We have more than enough for people to do. We also have bingo and church services every other week."

Very clean facility, nice amenities and great selection of food options on a beautiful well maintain property with private garden area for the residents. "
