"Aspire at West End was great. The only thing was the price point. I couldn't afford it, but it was just a wonderful place. The staff was great. I had no problem with it at all. I didn't meet too many people other than my tour guide, but there were a couple of technicians and they were very nice and very helpful. They invited us to have a meal, but we didn't have time to stay. The facility was very nice. They had everything that you could want, like the pool, and the dining area, and even compensated you with a meal card that you could use in the dining room. The dining room looks like a restaurant. Everything was just fantastic and clean. They were even updating their Internet system to high speed. It was just great."

"I wanted to have a community that would allow me to still have the freedom of a balcony, a gated community, and a light and airy apartment. Carriage Hill Apartments fit the bill for me. It gave me everything that I was looking for. The amenities are off the chart. I have a large apartment. I can also get breakfast for around $2 and lunch for $2.50 only, with free coffee all day. There's a huge and beautiful pool. They do trips, have yard sales, and all 50 activities in a month. The people here are so friendly. I came a couple times to just ride around and talk to them to see what the feedback would be. All the feedback was so wonderful. I came here about 5 times before I made my final decision. The price is great too. They also give a lot of wonderful discounts on different things like on your cable bill. It's a wonderful community, and I'm loving it. "

"I visited Legacy at Imperial Village. The staff was very pleasant but disorganized. She had accidentally set up two tours at the same time, so I took the tour with another person. The apartments were nice but very tiny. The facility was clean, but it requires a lot of walking. I didn't see a gym, but I do think they have entertainment. They had a library and a pool table, but when I was there, everybody was congregating in the lobby."

"I’m ready to move into Pemberton. The staff was upfront and knowledgeable, and the rooms were very nice and spacious. They had trips, all kinds of classes, and a theater. "

"When my wife approached me to leave my home, I was not excited about the move. Nobody wants to leave their home, but I knew it was the best for me. When we arrived at Anthology, now Elance, the staff welcomed us with open arms. We have seen a lot of positive changes with Elance. The food is beyond fantastic. The staff is out of this world, and the activities are so much fun. My wife Shelly and I live in a two bedroom with our dog Teddy. We were not going to move anywhere without him."

"Westminster Canterbury Richmond is a good place. It is a very expanded community, so the residents have to walk long distances to go from one activity to another, which is good for their health. It is a little bit exclusive, and it's very popular with residents from certain neighborhoods in Richmond, so they feel like they are still in the same community seeing all the familiar faces in this senior living place. They bring in performances in their auditorium like Richmond Ballet, the Richmond Symphony, and the Virginia Opera so the residents don’t always have to go to the theaters to witness these performances. They’ve also got in Cirque du Soleil, Hawaiian dancers, and guest speakers on a large scale. The place has a more formal dining room and a café, and for those, you have to pay additional cost. "

"The building is designed for maximum noise isolation - with thick ceiling, floors, and walls between units. Bathroom / kitchen flooring, and carpeting, is replaced - and walls repainted - for each new tenant. Individual air, cooling, heating, water are provided - with utilities included in rent. Trash disposal chutes, in separate rooms - kept clean. There's a small laundromat (2 washers and dryers) on each floor - that can be used 7 x 24. The resident of the unit across the hall from the laundromat, on my floor, told me that she never hears anything (no, she has no hearing problem). The staff is great - more like family. Service requests are generally resolved within hours, on the same day. If you're ex military, you'll enjoy watching the military precision in the twice yearly filter replacement and maintenance check. 2 to 4 people - in and out in 60 seconds. Courtesy van with scheduled monthly trips to several different nearby shopping centres. 2 activity rooms / building - and various activities scheduled. It's a 5 to 10 minute stroll to 7 different nearby GRTC Bus Stops. A dozen or so intriguing small restaurants and shoppes, within 15 minutes walk. I moved hare almost a year ago - and I have no intentions of moving elsewhere. Ever. There is a waiting list - for good reason."

"I loved Dogwood Terrace. It's a beautiful place. I liked everything about it. When I walked in the door, it was just a feeling of warmth. There's nothing that I did not like about it at all. That's why I'm taking my loved one over there today. They're very courteous and kind. Everything is just great. They have a variety of things for the residents to be busy with, so I fell in love with it. They have a salon, a small gym, a playroom, and a lot of stuff. They have balconies in every room and everything I can imagine that would be nice."

"The staff was incredibly polite and helpful, my chess partner suffered from a stroke that left the right side of her body paralyzed, the nurse that helped her was very kind, not condescending at all. The maintenance people were very efficient, unless something had to be ordered, any issue was fixed within minutes. It is however in a very old building, so things seem to break down fairly often. The Sunday service was very pleasant, and the choir is made up of residents of the home. The activities that the residents could participate in included bingo, and any card game you can imagine, from skipbo to spades (and some of those old women were putting down hefty bets.) to gin rummy. They have an excellent physical therapy regimen for my friend, which she says is helping immensely. After a couple chess matches we went down and played in a wii bowling tournament organized by the home, and had tons of fun. Came real close to winning too. Then we ate dinner together - apparently they have a great deal of variety - we had panbroiled lemon chicken with seasoned potatoes. I can't say much about the average meal, but thus one was great. Overall, I would give the Hermitage a 10/10, as would Agatha. RIP. "

"Cedarfield is a large facility. They have multiple eating venues. They have a lot of nice-sized apartments and a lot of facilities that appealed to me. There's a large park nearby with easy access, which appeals to me, too. They have multiple floor plans, but I am interested in the one-bedroom apartment, and that's what I looked at. I had a nice interaction with various staff people. They had a lot of nice common facilities like a swimming pool, a gymnasium, and a theater."

"My husband chose to move at Dominion Place Association because he liked that area of town. It was his first choice of places to move in. The apartments were small but it was well-insulated that you did not hear the neighbor's loud music. They had planned activities from time to time like dinner where everybody was invited. They also had social workers or people who helped the residents with different things like working on the computer. They also helped in choosing a cellphone or anything that they wanted to do. He had his own private place and he cooked his own food. "

"My Father lived at Summerhill for a little over eight years before he passed. He enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, and having his own unit that he bought. Summerhill has transportation for residents to go shopping, to a doctor's appointment, to church, and to special planned events. The staff at Summerhill is very pleasant, helpful, and there is round the clock security at the entrance and throughout the community. My father loved living there, and my brother and I were pleased with how he was able to maintain his lifestyle and enjoy new things. The unit he had was two bedroom and two full baths, a kitchen, dining area/living room, washer and dryer, and a lovely covered front porch. "

"Lakewood Manor is beautiful if you can afford it, and they have all the whole works. It would be a wonderful place to spend the time. We only talked with the sales manager; they were very courteous, and I was very impressed with their hospitality. I have several friends who live there who speak very highly of it. The location itself is beautiful, with beautiful and extremely well-kept grounds. It's a first class operation -- no two ways about it. One thing that bothers me is that they are a Baptist-affiliated facility, and they claim to be non-profit, but for what they charge, I have a hard time believing that. "
