"I have spoke with Christine several times while looking for a facility for my mother. I must say she is top notch and a compassionate person and a very understanding person. I am in high hopes that this is were my mother will be. I have no doubts anout the loving care my mom would get from Commonwealth Senior Living. "

"I toured Auburn Hill. It was wonderful. It was on the water reservoir. It's a beautiful place. I loved the water and the facility. The memory care portion of that was very impressive, but the driving distance and the traffic were just way too much for my friend's husband. It was a great facility. I'd like to be there. I loved it, but they wouldn't bill insurance. They had areas for the people in memory care that were outside and very nice, but didn't have as much freedom moving around. One thing I liked about their memory care was that it was fairly small. The smaller the patient population, the more attentive the staff are going to be to them, and they were well-staffed for memory care. They were wonderful and spent plenty of time with us. It was great."

"Sunrise at Bon Air was a nice facility. The building was very homey. I thought the residents that we talked to seemed very happy. The apartments were nice and the staff that we talked to seemed knowledgeable and caring, but not as expert as the other place I went to. We didn't talk to any people who were caring for the residents on a one-on-one basis, but we talked more to the management-type people, and they seemed very nice and very caring, They just didn't seem as knowledgeable about the medical stuff. It's very expensive."

"I like Bickford of Chesterfield for my aunt because of the genuine interaction between the staff and the residents. It's a very home-like atmosphere. The person who gave the tour was very informative, I liked how she interacted with the residents, she seemed to genuinely know them and they seemed happy. They had a salon, they do outings, they have an activities coordinator who does a lot of activities with them on-site, they have movie nights, they celebrate different holidays, and they have music and games."

"The Crossings at Ironbridge seemed to be nice. The staff seemed to be nice. The people that we were able to see and talk to seemed to be happy there. They have activities. They have different people that come and do activities with them. They take them to different places. The layout was easy to get around. It has restaurants nearby and a hospital that's probably within 15 minutes."

"My friend will move into Spring Arbor of Salisbury Assisted Living. The biggest factor was that they were willing to bill the insurance directly instead of having the client pay up front, and then wait for reimbursement. This was the only facility that was willing to do that. Everything we saw was excellent. The rooms are an adequate size. The bathroom is great. The menu looked good. One of the things I liked about memory care is that they don't give too many options to people with dementia, as opposed to looking at a menu with eight things on it. They will select from a couple. If they don't want either one of those, there's something else they can offer them. Their care is truly geared toward those with memory issues. I also liked the facility. They have an outside porch with rockers, screened-in, and they go outside. It's all open and beautiful, but there's no exit from the outside area. You can go out and be with nature without worrying about them wandering off. So, it's very secure."

"We toured Brookdale Midlothian. My friend enjoyed that. Her problem with that one was she felt more like a hotel setting, not a home setting but the food was good. We had lunch there. She was happy with all of it and said it was a very pleasant experience, and that's why she would like to go back and give it a second look. The staff was very lovely and helpful. It would serve her well. Everything was lovely, and she was very happy with it. They have the exercise, they have the community center where they can meet with other residents and she was very pleased."

"I went to Sunrise of Richmond. That's where I was going to place my mom until she was very adamant that she did not want to go back into a nursing home as long as the doctor okayed it, and that's the only reason I didn't go. I'm going to keep them in mind for when she does need one though. I've kept in touch with Christine, who is the person that does all the tours and the intakes. I've kept in touch with her because she pretty much knows exactly what's going on. She was very friendly and very informative. I liked her a lot. She was very down to earth. Because she has an older parent as well, so she understood all my concerns, and she was very sweet. Our tour ended up being a two-hour chat session, so she took her time with me, and she didn't rush me through anything. It was beautiful. If I could live there, I would live there. All the nurses that I talked to are very nice. I liked it. It was all-inclusive. They had the hairdressers there, they had the doctor on site. Also, they take them out a couple of times a week just to get them out into the community to take them shopping for clothes and to go to the grocery store. They take them out places, take them out to parks, and take them out to do activities. I thought that was awesome that they do that at least a couple of times a week. I looked at everything, and it was all-inclusive. If I had decided to go there, I would not have needed to go anywhere to get my mom's hair done or the doctors or anything like that. The rooms are beautiful. Every room has a great big picture window in it. I looked at a one-bedroom for my mom because it was just her, but even the studio apartments were huge. If my mother would have gone for a studio, it would have been fine, too. They're huge. They've got everything other than a stove. It's wonderful there. The rooms were huge, very well lit, and they have windows in every room there. The scenery is also beautiful. They have patios outside to where you can go and sit. They have gazebos outside if you want to go sit but don't want to be in the sun. They have everything for everybody out there. It was wonderful."

"My mom has moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at the West End. The day we moved in, they were wonderful. They helped me with everything. I could not have been more pleased. They have a salon, and they give you towels. They supply a lot of things. They have music and they have different programs. My mom will be 101 in December, so she's not doing a lot of activities, but they do have a lot to offer. My mom says the food is very good. The building is very well taken care of. The staff members have all been wonderful. Regarding activities, they have a lot of bingo and cards. I have seen residents out doing activities and they seem to be having a good time. Overall, we're very, very happy where my mom is at now."

"I toured Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe. We liked everything, the options and different living possibilities, whether it be a studio, a one-bedroom, or a two-bedroom. The woman who showed us around, Ashley, was fantastic and answered all our questions. It just seemed like a very nice living community. We've dealt with her several times, and she always contacts you right back. Their dining area looked nice. The menu looked nice, but we didn't taste anything. They had movie nights, bingo, a small library, and a nail salon. They drove you back and forth to doctor's appointments. There seemed to be a lot of amenities."

"I toured Harmony at Hanover. The people were very nice. They cared about the people that they were taking care of. It was really clean. I was surprised it smelled like home. It was beautiful. I liked it. They let me see everything in the manager's office. They even showed me the part that was remodeled. The people there seemed to be happy. I loved the way it looked and how welcoming the workers were when you got there. They didn't know I was coming, and this is surprising. It was nice. Some people have a one-bedroom. Some people got a two-bedroom, and I think it was only one person who has a studio apartment. They had a bookshelf with books and games on it for the people to use, and it has a little garden there at the back."

"We chose The Harmony Collection at Hanover for my parents because they have both independent living and assisted living. We are also very pleased with the staff and the apartment they moved into. It just seemed like a good fit. Luckily, up until this point, they've been very happy. They are there under independent living care. The place is large, very spacious, and probably the nicest apartment of all the ones we had the chance to look at. One meal a day is included. My parents usually have dinner, and they're very happy with the food. I have tried it, too, and it was very good. They have activities daily, and my mother has been able to partake in some of those activities. My father doesn't have quite the ability, but he has participated as well. They have happy hours twice a week, and they have additional celebrations. They're having a formal celebration this evening, where they're all dressed in formal attire. It's been very good and very pleasing."

"My wife has moved into Heritage Green Hanover. Everything so far has been real good. I'm paying for a sitter right now, too, for the first 30 days other than the memory care unit. The staff and the food are fine. Every time I've been there, the main area and in the memory care unit are always clean. They have people come in and play music for them. One time, I went into the assisted living part, and they were playing bingo, and last weekend, in the memory care unit, they were doing trivia on TV. My wife is in a private room, and it's really nice. It couldn't be any better."
