"I visited the President Madison Inn and it was terrible. It was more like an insane asylum. I wouldn't even send my dog there. It was dirty, old, and musty. People were just wandering around unkempt. I didn't see any staff except for the one man that took us in for an interview. They have shared rooms with 2 beds per room. Their dining room was packed in with a few tables, a bunch chairs and a TV. The kitchen was also in it. I wouldn't recommend it. I would stay far away from that place. "

"The Dogwood Village-Orange County was a great place. I've been there twice, and the manager, Patty, showed me around. It's very clean. It has lots of activities. It has a spa room, and you can work out. I'm just impressed by the facilities and the friendliness of the people there. I've known a few other assisted living places, and Dogwood Village might not be as big, but it's better. They have four or five different-sized rooms. One thing I really like, which I haven't seen in every assisted living place, is every shower or tub, whatever you want to call it, comes with the seat and the safety bars, which is good."

"After heart surgery one of our uncles spent a number of months at The Village at Gordon House. This is one of Virginia's assisted living facilities for seniors and for us it was one of our first encounters with one of these residential centers. We were delighted with the home-like atmosphere and the positive attitude of the staff. My uncle had expressed concern that he would not be allowed to do things for himself. However we all soon discovered that while he did receive around the clock assistance, he was also encouraged to be as independent as possible under the circumstances. This independence helped keep him on the road to recovery and we will be forever grateful for the help and assistance everyone provided. We got to witness a few of his speech therapy lessons and we were so happy to notice the concern and professionalism on behalf of the therapist. Our uncle was not a model of cheer during those first weeks but the therapist was patient and helpful and it was not long before our uncle's attitude was reverting back to normal. There was a personalized plan of care that was designed just for our uncle. We were told that these care plans are created for every resident, regardless of whether they are planning to stay for just a short period of time or remain as long-term members of this senior community. With a full schedule that included wonderful meals, caring and dedicated staff members and lots of interesting activities it was no surprise that our uncle's recovery time surpassed even the most optimistic predictions that the doctors had voiced. "

"I have my parents in one of the double units and they are doing great! My grandfather was a resident 3 years and COVID hit, things went south but my grandfather was on dialysis and could not be moved. Not sure what happened but I saw the place close shortly after he passed away. The year that it was closed it was transformed back into the place my grandfather loved. It is being managed by a very capable understanding women who my parents are very fond of. I would recommend to anyone looking for independence. They are in the beginning stages of staffing and taking on residents but when they are full it will be a blast. Just as my grandfather felt. I wish them the best at filling all the suites and starting a new chapter."

"I love that Spring Oak at Louisa was nice and clean. When I went in unannounced, they made time to sit down, talk to me, and find out the needs I had for my relative. I was highly impressed with Tara, the administrator. I felt like all of the residents there are her concern. She has shown me a lot of compassion. I loved the room. It was so nice and clean. It has a private bathroom and a big bathroom. The way that the room was decorated with a nice bed, a TV, a TV stand, and a chair was very homey. I was highly impressed. I am giving them a top rating. One other thing I like was that pretty much the whole month, they had the menu posted, so everyone knew what was going on every day. They had activities for the people there, too. There was a nice TV room that they could all go in, sit, kind of have fellowship in there, and have time to not be by themselves. They had a nice dining area. Everything I saw felt like I was in a big, classy Hilton hotel."

"My wife is in Our Father’s House, and it is a fine facility. They care for her a great deal, they keep her clean and keep the facilities clean, and the food has been very acceptable. We work directly with the director and his senior staff if we have any questions, they are always on top if she needs medications or anything else, and they keep my wife completely advised, so they are doing a fine job. "

"Trinity Senior Village is only about four miles from my house. The facility was new, so I had a lot of questions about their staffing, and I was a little hesitant about that. The rooms were comparable to the other facility. It was maybe not as fancy in size, but it was more than adequate. They had a courtyard, but it looked like it needed some work to make it better, like shading it."

"Jackson house is a blessing to those who seek the best care for older loved ones. The management sends staff to yearly Alzheimer's Dementia training. The management monitors and supervises the care of the residents. The management communicates well with the families and attending physicians.The Administrator who is a Registered nurse and a Board certified Gerontological and Medical Surgical nurse also gives back to the community by giving a free health lecture once a month at the Rappahannock Senior Center.I have peace of mind since I decided to bring my mother there."

"My mother-in-law chose The Blake at Charlottesville because she liked it best and it was very close to her church where she goes. They also offer a church there and a beauty shop. So, everything she needs is right there. She likes the food and she's eating very well. We had lunch there with her once and that was very good. The staff is all very personable and very friendly. The atmosphere is very open and bright. The place looks clean and very nice. They have tons of activities such as bingo, card games, movie nights, walking, exercise classes every day or every other day, and outings three times a week (if you want to go anywhere, you can take the shuttle bus). The director, the charge nurse, and all have been great. It's a good value for the money."

"My parents moved into a 2 bedroom independent apartment at Our Lady of Peace in 2018, Mom transferring to a 1 bedroom following Dad’s passing. The lovely facility, grounds and apartments are home-like, efficiently designed and well-maintained. Importantly for us, residents starting in independent living can transition in place to 4 levels of assisted care until full nursing or memory care is needed. We have the highest regard for both management and the exceptionally caring staff at all levels of service. They consistently go above and beyond in safety protocols, in resident engagement, and with family communication. Mom tells me every day how blessed she feels to have landed there. Her children agree!"

"Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge is the cream of the crop. Everything is top of the line as far as very wide and beautiful architecture going from cottages of several different sizes to units within the building of many different sizes. They have physical therapists there. By paying the deposit to be in their Compass Club for future openings, you can eat there six times a year for free, use the facilities, and go on trips, but you have to pay the fee. That really gives you a chance to step inside and know what it's like to partake in the facility and what the residents and the staff are truly like on that basis more than just a tour. They had an indoor pool and you can take classes or use it for water therapy on your own. It looks out over the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Southwest Mountains. They have their own little shuttle bus that will take people during the week to shopping, etc. It's multilevel care, multilevel facilities, but it's not all in one building. It has a large campus area. If you need your meds only, they'll come in and do it. You have the standard fee and it's not going to be menu driven. Everything was great and the food was tremendous."

"This place has brought life back to my mom and for that I am so appreciative. She now lives life with a purpose and consistently tells me how happy she is living at Linden House. The staff has helped her improve her personal challenges through physical therapy and memory tools. They also do a great job of including her in daily events which are fun and appropriate. Her apartment as well as the common areas are just lovely and the staff is friendly, quick to respond to concerns and truly caring. Highly recommend!"
