"We had a nice tour. However, it's more of an assisted living place, and what we're looking for is independent living. I would say the lady, Karen, who took us on a tour was extremely friendly and caring towards all of the seniors that were there. She's definitely a plus for them. They had a whole calendar of activities. They had exercises and church groups that came in and different things like that. When you walk in, you can kind of see the dining area from the front foyer, and it looks pleasant enough. They had music playing. The room was really just like a small studio apartment. There was one room and then there was a closet and a bathroom."

"Harmony at Falls Run was excellent. The rooms looked very good, very roomy, well-kept, and clean. They have music, crafts, and games. They would take them out to places in the community. It's a new, high-end facility, and it's well-maintained. I would call it a luxury facility. They have lots of social activities."

"I visited the memory care facility of Viva Senior Living at Stafford. One of the things I liked most was the residents, because they were so welcoming. The person who gave the tour was top-notch. She was very knowledgeable about her facility, and she knew people by their names. I observed her talking to a patient who had memory issues, and the patient was really disgruntled by the nurse, but she resolved everything within a matter of three minutes and calmed the resident down. It was refreshing. I would have picked that place. I knew my mom would have been in good hands. I would definitely give it the highest score from the overall look, the cleanliness, and the awareness of the staff with their residents. I didn't taste the food, but the menu looked very good. The place did need updating. They lock everything down at a certain time. They said that even though my mom would be in her apartment, the way it's set up, she will still remember where her apartment is. If she ever gets lost in the facility, someone will always find her because it's locked down. The good thing about it is that the residents outside of memory care would immediately call the staff if they notice a memory care resident walking where they are not supposed to be."

"The place seemed very nice. It was clean and well maintained, and the residents seemed happy and friendly. They certainly enjoyed all the carols we sang them and candy we had for them. The facility was not excessively large, but the rooms were well provisioned and not overly spartan. There wasn't anything that struck me as wrong or unkempt about the place. We toured the facility and sang carols in the main room and in some personal rooms. The place was neat and tidy and seemed to be a decent community. I wouldn't mind living there when I got older, although I still plan to live independently for as long as I am able. The food provided was not overly elaborate, but was sufficient and not too bad in the flavor department. All in all, the facility seemed alright, and I neither saw nor experienced anything untoward. It was not a bad experience. "

"My mother-in-law and father-in-law are in Potomac Place. We are very happy and they are very happy. They're very friendly, very thorough, and helped us get all of the medical information in and the transition was very easy. It was certainly not the newest one I looked at, but it was clean and warm. It was very nice. It's an older facility, but everything is well maintained. They shuttle them out to appointments, they have a hairdresser and doctors there, and they come and get them to remind them for activities. They do a very thorough job. The food was bland because there's a lot of older people with restricted diet."

"Tribute at The Glen by Cogir was beautiful and nicely laid out. They had beautiful apartments with huge closets. It was nice in that respect. Their grounds were pretty. There were lots of outdoor spaces, different courtyards, and walking paths. The woman who did the tour was super great and super friendly. She listened to all our concerns and answered all our questions. She was the most well-versed in explaining levels of care and how that works, that they're kind of fluid and you can go back and forth between all of them. She was good. The menu looked amazing."

"Everybody at Fredericksburg Assisted Living was more than willing to help since I had to move my mother-in-law on a transfer board when we were there which is a bit of a learning, and they were right there the day I took her to tour. They’ve all been very cordial when we went in. The patients seemed happy and liked it there. I've had friends who've had their parents there and they have nothing but good things to say about it. It's an older facility but it was certainly clean. The place was good and the layout was very good for older people because there were no long halls. Everything opened onto a giant dining/living room area which I thought was good so they don't have to push themselves down the hall to get there. They were more than accommodating. They have church, Bible study, groups that come in to sing, Bingo, and pets that visit."

"Hughes Home, Inc. was really good. We liked this community a lot. It was homey, clean, the people were friendly, and it looked like they had a lot of activities for the residents. It's also in a nice location. The only activity we were able to observe was a lecture with someone for a book club. The staff member who gave the tour was nice and informative. Their dining area was clean and good."

"I was thrilled with Dad's care while in rehab. During his 2+ month stay, I visited 6 days a week, saw his room cleaned each day, bed linens changed, etc. His rehab program was customized to his needs and modified as needed according to his progress -- they even made modifications in goals so we could take him in our car to his many outside doctors' appointments rather than hiring a medical transport. Staff was great - called him by name, talked to him each time they came in, paid attention to changes in his attitude or physical discomfort. They staff also kept me well informed in terms of health status and progress in rehab. Nurses, CNA;s, therapists, social workers all seemed communicate well with each other and were on the same page as to how to work toward our goal of resuming independent living. )Goal achieved!) "

"I've been to Trinity Senior Village several times and I had been there with a friend whose mother was there. It's clean, it's new, and it's family-run. It is very caring. Wonderful staff to patient ratio. They have really good activities, and they have great use of technology including wristbands. Also in memory care, they have what looks like a TV but it's an interactive game kind of thing that is used. The staff is very caring and warm. It's small, it's family-owned, and it's very well run. The rooms are open, airy, and fit all the Virginia standards, but they're clean. They have extra windows here and there, so it's bright. It's a square shape, so you don't run into the end of a hallway, and you can keep walking around and around. I've tried the food, and it's excellent. It's a smaller facility, so it has a smaller living room area and a smaller dining room area. When I took my grandson and he said, 'Wow, this just looks like a regular house.' There's a craft room, they have those mechanical pets, they have a fireplace, they have TV, and they have a family room where a family can meet and do a celebration by themselves. Obviously, they have laundry. They don't mix people's laundry. They do one person's laundry and don't mix all that up, and I like that. They have a salon and a fitness room. They have a walk-in tub room as well. They sort of have everything. It's extremely well-maintained. They take great pride in the cleanliness, and more than that, the care of the clients there. They just do a great job of communicating and communicating with families. When I went with my friend to visit her mom, it just was a very welcoming home atmosphere. They do a lot of different activities, they had family members come in and paint flower pots, and they have people come in for different activities. They have music, they do bingo, and they have a service dog come in and visit with patients. The value for money is excellent, and that's why we're looking into it for my husband because the value is very, very good. There's no extra pricing for everything. It's a flat fee other than cable TV, so there are not a lot of hidden costs, and that is excellent."

"My mother was in Our Fathers House. They took care of her until the Alzheimer's became so bad they couldn't control her, and they didn't have enough staff to take care of her. That's why we left, but they were very good. It was a Christian setting. They had meals, and everybody ate together like a family. They were very good to her. She just outgrew their staff. Our Fathers House was assisted living with extra care, but it was personal pay only. It didn't take Medicare or Medicaid. They would bathe and assist you in the bathroom. Part of their assisted living had an extended program, but mom outgrew that. We would have loved her there the whole time if she hadn't outgrown them. She was more than they could handle without a sitter. I would highly recommend them because they had good people. They treated us like family. "

The place is close to a major street, and that was a big concern to me. They did have a care for dementia, which my mother has. It all seemed to work out pretty well. I saw the rooms, and they were nice. They seemed to be spacious. The people seemed to be caring. They seemed to have clinical care on-staff. The dining room was spacious and clean, and people seemed to like the food. They have exercises for the people living there. They have things like bingo and stuff like that, so they try to keep the people as active as they possibly can. The security seemed to be OK.
