"It wasn't that big. It was just a two-storey building, and it was very nice and very clean. They had wide hallways, but I didn't really get that homey feeling from it. It was lunchtime, and there were a few people in the dining hall who were mostly asleep at the dining table. I didn't see any of the residents out doing anything. There were no activities going on at the time that I went by. The staff was very friendly, and all that I talked to were very nice. It was a good place; however, the feeling I got whether my uncle would be happy there would be a 4."

"I went to Sunrise of Richmond. That's where I was going to place my mom until she was very adamant that she did not want to go back into a nursing home as long as the doctor okayed it, and that's the only reason I didn't go. I'm going to keep them in mind for when she does need one though. I've kept in touch with Christine, who is the person that does all the tours and the intakes. I've kept in touch with her because she pretty much knows exactly what's going on. She was very friendly and very informative. I liked her a lot. She was very down to earth. Because she has an older parent as well, so she understood all my concerns, and she was very sweet. Our tour ended up being a two-hour chat session, so she took her time with me, and she didn't rush me through anything. It was beautiful. If I could live there, I would live there. All the nurses that I talked to are very nice. I liked it. It was all-inclusive. They had the hairdressers there, they had the doctor on site. Also, they take them out a couple of times a week just to get them out into the community to take them shopping for clothes and to go to the grocery store. They take them out places, take them out to parks, and take them out to do activities. I thought that was awesome that they do that at least a couple of times a week. I looked at everything, and it was all-inclusive. If I had decided to go there, I would not have needed to go anywhere to get my mom's hair done or the doctors or anything like that. The rooms are beautiful. Every room has a great big picture window in it. I looked at a one-bedroom for my mom because it was just her, but even the studio apartments were huge. If my mother would have gone for a studio, it would have been fine, too. They're huge. They've got everything other than a stove. It's wonderful there. The rooms were huge, very well lit, and they have windows in every room there. The scenery is also beautiful. They have patios outside to where you can go and sit. They have gazebos outside if you want to go sit but don't want to be in the sun. They have everything for everybody out there. It was wonderful."

"My mom has moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at the West End. The day we moved in, they were wonderful. They helped me with everything. I could not have been more pleased. They have a salon, and they give you towels. They supply a lot of things. They have music and they have different programs. My mom will be 101 in December, so she's not doing a lot of activities, but they do have a lot to offer. My mom says the food is very good. The building is very well taken care of. The staff members have all been wonderful. Regarding activities, they have a lot of bingo and cards. I have seen residents out doing activities and they seem to be having a good time. Overall, we're very, very happy where my mom is at now."

"I like Bickford of Chesterfield for my aunt because of the genuine interaction between the staff and the residents. It's a very home-like atmosphere. The person who gave the tour was very informative, I liked how she interacted with the residents, she seemed to genuinely know them and they seemed happy. They had a salon, they do outings, they have an activities coordinator who does a lot of activities with them on-site, they have movie nights, they celebrate different holidays, and they have music and games."

"We have just completed the paperwork and approval for a relative. Although the paperwork is extensive and full of legal forms they provided help. The staff has been very helpful and cooperative. We all eat a lunch at the facility. The meal was simple and yet everything that we hoped that it would be. The activities seem to be adequate. The facility is clean and comfortable. We will update is there are any changes."

"I think the big thing is we wanted a pleasant, well-equipped, well-staffed facility because my wife required 24-hour care just for her safety, and Commonwealth Senior Living at Chesterfield has that. They're exceedingly well-staffed in the assisted living part of the community. The medical technicians were not only skilled but also compassionate and friendly. For a brief time, they took excellent care of my wife. They were very generously staffed. In my wife's situation, they provided not only observational care but hospice medications and things of that sort to keep my wife comfortable, which their staff was more than qualified to administer. They kept her clean and comfortable. They kept her occupied when she could be awake so that she avoided a lot of anxiety that could have been brought on. The staff were very accommodating with my need for access. They were also very compassionate and supportive of our family members when they visited. The facility itself was extremely clean, well-maintained, and cheerful. From what I could tell, just walking by, the eating facility seemed to be extremely well managed, and the food the residents were eating seemed very appetizing. All the residents seemed to be content and happy and showed all the signs of being well cared for. "

"My friend will move into Spring Arbor of Salisbury Assisted Living. The biggest factor was that they were willing to bill the insurance directly instead of having the client pay up front, and then wait for reimbursement. This was the only facility that was willing to do that. Everything we saw was excellent. The rooms are an adequate size. The bathroom is great. The menu looked good. One of the things I liked about memory care is that they don't give too many options to people with dementia, as opposed to looking at a menu with eight things on it. They will select from a couple. If they don't want either one of those, there's something else they can offer them. Their care is truly geared toward those with memory issues. I also liked the facility. They have an outside porch with rockers, screened-in, and they go outside. It's all open and beautiful, but there's no exit from the outside area. You can go out and be with nature without worrying about them wandering off. So, it's very secure."

"We toured Brookdale Midlothian. My friend enjoyed that. Her problem with that one was she felt more like a hotel setting, not a home setting but the food was good. We had lunch there. She was happy with all of it and said it was a very pleasant experience, and that's why she would like to go back and give it a second look. The staff was very lovely and helpful. It would serve her well. Everything was lovely, and she was very happy with it. They have the exercise, they have the community center where they can meet with other residents and she was very pleased."

"My dad has been here for a couple of weeks now. They are amazing. I felt very comfortable every time I went in. The facility is beautiful, and I feel that they made me and my dad feel safe. He is being taken care of. I'm in contact with them most of the time if there's any issues because my dad is in his mid to last stages of Alzheimer's. I am very pleased with the services that they offer. They have exercises and activities for my dad. The place itself is beautiful. My dad's room is very comfortable. When he first walked in, he said, "Wow, this place is really nice. Whoever's room this is, it's really nice." I had set it up before he got there. They keep it very clean. They adhere to all the protocols. I've watched them with other memory care residents, how they redirect, and they do it in a caring and professional manner (which is something that me and my mom would not). We didn't know how to care for my dad in that manner, where he can move forward with his life having Alzheimer's. They even let me know that he has a new friend, which is great. I feel like it's a better atmosphere for him, as opposed to being secluded in the house and not being able to really do things and go anywhere. The food is awesome. They have a five star chef, and my dad does not complain about that. When we first brought him there, he ate the food and he said it's so good and amazing. That won him over really quickly because he eats all the time. They have three square meals a day, and I provide him with snacks. As of right now for the first three weeks, I have no complaints at all. It's a hard decision to place my dad in a facility. They made us feel really comfortable going there and speaking to them. I didn't want him to leave the house, but they really helped us. My mom and I feel like this was the perfect place for him."

"Tapp Family Home was very nice. It was a home that had been converted to a facility. It was very clean. It looked well organized and had no ill smells. They had a nice gathering room. The staff was very supportive and seemed very open. It was a nice and easy conversation. They were very personable. I liked them. There was nothing wrong with the place. I would place my aunt there with a clear conscience. They did activities. They had a really nice deck that would be delightful for spring and summer. They had a well-accommodated bathroom that was really big and accessible."

"We're going to place my mom at The Haven Assisted Living @ Eleanor because it might be a good match for her. She's going to be the 6th person in this house. They have live-in caregivers there 24 hours a day. What I liked most about it is the low resident-to-caregiver ratio. They're licensed to take in only 7 residents. They kept the place very clean, and there was no odor whatsoever. I saw the residents and they were all dressed and clean, looked like they were all cared for. The place is like a 2000-square-foot home that they've converted into assisted living, so it's more home-like. It's this large ranch-style home with a big dining area right off of the kitchen, a large dining table with chairs. I would have to take mom to her doctor's appointments, but they have a hairdresser that comes in. I even saw a bunch of ladies with their feet up in their chairs and they were doing their toenails. They have a deck out back and they're in a big corner lot, with fresh fruits and vegetables in the garden. Jackie was very good. She knows her product, she was very casual, very upbeat, and very friendly. The outside needed some painting and upkeep, but that's all."
