The Best Continuing Care Retirement Communities Communities in Hanover County, VA

"This place is lovely. A friend of mine lives here with her husband and I have visited multiple times. They have a lovely two bedroom apartment that also has an office/study. I have eaten lunch in the beautiful dining room and the food is delicious. They also have a pharmacy, beauty salon, pool, workout area and professional trainers. My friend has Parkinson's disease and she has a special workout program designed for her. They also have a very active social life there as there is always a cocktail party somewhere. There residents are ultra friendly and the staff is too. They seem to genuinely like working there. This is the Lexus of facilities in this area. "

"The staff was incredibly polite and helpful, my chess partner suffered from a stroke that left the right side of her body paralyzed, the nurse that helped her was very kind, not condescending at all. The maintenance people were very efficient, unless something had to be ordered, any issue was fixed within minutes. It is however in a very old building, so things seem to break down fairly often. The Sunday service was very pleasant, and the choir is made up of residents of the home. The activities that the residents could participate in included bingo, and any card game you can imagine, from skipbo to spades (and some of those old women were putting down hefty bets.) to gin rummy. They have an excellent physical therapy regimen for my friend, which she says is helping immensely. After a couple chess matches we went down and played in a wii bowling tournament organized by the home, and had tons of fun. Came real close to winning too. Then we ate dinner together - apparently they have a great deal of variety - we had panbroiled lemon chicken with seasoned potatoes. I can't say much about the average meal, but thus one was great. Overall, I would give the Hermitage a 10/10, as would Agatha. RIP. "

"This is a top notch assisted living facility for Masons and their families. Clean, lots of fun activities and affordable lifetime care. The staff is wonderful and helpful."

"Hermitage at Cedarfield has been taking care of my mother since she moved into the independent living facility in 2005; since then she has moved to Assisted Living and now to the Health Care facility within the residence. The staff is competent and caring; the facility top notch; it adheres to high standards of performance and measurability. Dining, cleanliness, nursing levels, CNA care and the rest is the best in Richmond. I couldn't ask for more "

"Lakewood was very impressive. Unfortunately, it was during COVID, so we didn't get to tour the living facilities. They had just finished renovations. Their staff was really pleasant and nice. I even put a deposit down there. That's a buy-in, and I would love to go there, but they're a little bit more expensive than I can handle. They have two meals a day, which are lunch and dinner. They had two or three restaurant-type things. They had their main dining room, which was like restaurant service. Then they had a bistro, a private dining room, and they had a snack shop. All the amenities were great. One of the things I like was it has Life Care. They have good exercise equipment, a pool, medical facilities onsite, transportation to medical appointments within limits, nice lounge areas, and a library."
