"I moved to The Compass at Springdale Park. It's brand new. It has a lot of amenities, one and two-bedroom apartments, and full kitchens. A full appliance package with a washer, dryer, dishwasher, and no carpet on the floors. It's all waterproof vinyl plank floors. They do allow animals, so for me, it's perfect. The staff is very friendly and responsive to your requests and questions. I make my meals. They offer a continental breakfast, three days a week, and that was one of the reasons I chose it. I did not want to be tied down to a specific mealtime. They went on a Christmas tour Thursday night. They have cocktail parties every Thursday evening, and continental breakfast on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There are all kinds of other activities that I haven't gotten into yet. It's really good. It's expensive, but then most facilities are, so I'm pleased with it."

"Our tour at Westminster Canterbury was great. It's just too big and too expensive for what we wanted. The rooms were very adequate size-wise. They had studios, 1- and 2-bedrooms, cottages, and all kinds of housing. It's a huge place with a lot of people so the amenities are great and everything is in a larger and better scale to cater to more people."

"I went to Hermitage Richmond, but it was not for my brother. It was a very fine facility, but the people there were very frail, and he's very physically fit. It was extremely well-maintained and beautiful. The people seemed happy. They were old and frail, but they were walking. Half of them were walking with walkers and the ones who were in wheelchairs were well-dressed. They were looking forward to dinner and they looked like they were going out to a banquet. They were happy and they seemed to have everything the people needed. It looked as though everybody's needs were accommodated. In particular, one lady just loves ironing, and I saw her ironing her sheets and clothes and she was happy with it. They take care of everybody's linen and personal clothing because they have a laundry room, but they seem to accom,odate people, whatever their needs might be. It was an extraordinary place for a large number of people with a variety of needs. It was very expensive, but it has high-end clientele. It's definitely for people who have the means. It's expensive for the average person, but they do offer quality services. I didn't eat there, but I could smell the tasty food, and it smelled really good. Everybody was happy."

"The Masonic Home of Virginia (MAHOVA) a private facility. Originally established in the late 1800s as an orphanage for children of Masons; in the 1950s it transitioned into an adult home, and today it is a continuing care community ranging from independent living cottages to various levels of assisted living and memory care. It is clear from some of the reviews that individuals do not understand the mission of the Home and it's rich history of caring for the Masonic community. I have several family members and friends who are/were residents of the Home, and the level of care is excellent. "

"I visited and it was a very, very nice place indeed. It had beautiful apartments, especially those that were in the new building. They had different styles of rooms, though they were all closed in. For activities, there were day trips and the like. The lady that showed me the apartments and handled the internet call was the sweetest and was absolutely wonderful. I had lunch with her when I was there so we did extensive talking. The food was also very good and professional served. It was simply excellent. "

"My husband chose to move at Dominion Place Association because he liked that area of town. It was his first choice of places to move in. The apartments were small but it was well-insulated that you did not hear the neighbor's loud music. They had planned activities from time to time like dinner where everybody was invited. They also had social workers or people who helped the residents with different things like working on the computer. They also helped in choosing a cellphone or anything that they wanted to do. He had his own private place and he cooked his own food. "

"For the first time in my life I was looking at living alone. I wasn't sure if I could do it, but in looking for places to live I was given the opportunity to visit and tour Guardian Place. I knew immediately that it was the place to try. I was not disappointed, and I wasn't really alone. The facility is very clean, well maintained, and the staff is very good. Over 60 and unsure, living at the Guardian Place provided times for entertainment, movies, games, a good Food Bank day once a week, and a ride to go shopping. "I like the size of the apartment at Carriage Hill and I also like the amenities that they offer. It's close to one my friends and that is one plus. The place is very nice and the staff seemed available if there is anything wrong and if something has to be corrected. They have a bus that takes you to various places for shopping and that is also a big plus because I don’t have a car. The staff is very helpful. They did have a community center where you can use computer. They have a pool table, exercise room, and they have books if you want to borrow. They also have nice walking areas between buildings. This building has two floors but I am one the first floor so it's much easier for me. "

"My husband and I have been living at Norcroft Apartments. I love the place very well because the rooms are nice and spacious. The bathroom is a big enough for my husband and I. The staff is wonderful. They have quite a few programs. They take us out to grocery stores and to where I get my hair done. They have exercise and also have certain days for seniors like music day. I like that because I don't get a chance to get out much. They have transportation, so I like that a lot. The food and the dining room are wonderful. The food is good. I'm diabetic, and they make sure I have the right meal. It is wonderful. The facility is really good. My husband and I really don't have anything to worry about. You can see the security walking around, and the doors are lock automatically. "

"How can you be comforted when every day you know that could be the last day? But my friend appeared to be very comforted with his care over at the Crossings. When I came in, it looks like a big community room. Some people were watching TV; some were doing crafts so it appears that they keep them occupied. It’s a class A assisted living place; one of the best. I think that it is very luxury type. I mean it doesn’t really give you the impression that it’s an assisted living quarters. It just doesn’t give you the impression of walking into an atmosphere where people are in critical condition and required 24-hour care. Actually, to be honest, when I went in, I was a little bit apprehensive because from the word I got, he was expected to go any day. But when I walked into the comfort that he was in, I felt a lot better. Even though he's in a room, he has his own personal pictures and even his own blanket from his home. It’s like home. His room is a little small because they’re two people in it but he has better space than the other person. I was very impressed with the place. They had told me they’d try to find him one of the best places being that would be like his final home. His family had come in and made him have a homely surrounding. He has faced the fact that he would never leave there, but he wasn’t depressed. The surroundings and the way people treat you keep you from getting depressed. "

"Elance at Tuckahoe was very pretty and bright. It had a specific light palette, and it was very appealing. We looked at their 2-bedroom apartment, and we were impressed with the way everything was at that particular place. What I liked best about it was its appearance and its appeal. The woman who showed us the facility was very upbeat and very helpful. She was very friendly and personable. She answered all the questions that I asked. We also met someone from the dietary department. The food was excellent, and I liked the setup where you could order from a fairly varied menu. It was not during mealtime, but they prepared something for us. The place was sparkling clean."

"Dogwood Terrace was real nice and real clean. The rooms were good size. We got to see a couple of different styles and units. Everything looked real well. We talked to one of the people that live there, and she said she loved it. She loved living there. It's a very nice place. The person we were supposed to meet wasn't there. From what we were told, whoever I talked with to make the appointment didn't relay to the facility that we were coming, so the lady we spoke with actually took us around. She was real knowledgeable and real nice. She could only tell us so much because she didn't do that on a regular basis. They had some menus laying there, so I picked up one. They had the calendar sitting there also for the whole month of activities and stuff, and it looked like they had a lot going on there. She showed us all the rooms that were there and what they had and could do. It was very nice. They didn't have a lot of grounds there; but they had a sidewalk all the way around the building, so they could walk on a surface instead of having to walk on a dirt path, which is good."
