The Best Independent Living Communities in Goochland County, VA

"We chose The Harmony Collection at Hanover for my parents because they have both independent living and assisted living. We are also very pleased with the staff and the apartment they moved into. It just seemed like a good fit. Luckily, up until this point, they've been very happy. They are there under independent living care. The place is large, very spacious, and probably the nicest apartment of all the ones we had the chance to look at. One meal a day is included. My parents usually have dinner, and they're very happy with the food. I have tried it, too, and it was very good. They have activities daily, and my mother has been able to partake in some of those activities. My father doesn't have quite the ability, but he has participated as well. They have happy hours twice a week, and they have additional celebrations. They're having a formal celebration this evening, where they're all dressed in formal attire. It's been very good and very pleasing."

"My Father lived at Summerhill for a little over eight years before he passed. He enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, and having his own unit that he bought. Summerhill has transportation for residents to go shopping, to a doctor's appointment, to church, and to special planned events. The staff at Summerhill is very pleasant, helpful, and there is round the clock security at the entrance and throughout the community. My father loved living there, and my brother and I were pleased with how he was able to maintain his lifestyle and enjoy new things. The unit he had was two bedroom and two full baths, a kitchen, dining area/living room, washer and dryer, and a lovely covered front porch. "

"Harvest Glen Community is a mile from my house. I like that it's a single floor, and it's a nice open layout inside. They do have a clubhouse and a pool. I think they do all the yard work with outside maintenance. The place is fine. I have been there a lot because I know older people that live there. They have garages attached, which is nice. The staff was very nice, they let us in, and they were fine."

"My mom was a resident at The Towers for a little over 3yrs. Mom loved living at The Towers. She had the cutest studio apartment with a great view it was perfect for her. In the time mom lived there she made lots of friends and participated in many activities especially chair exercise, bingo and Red Hat outings. She loved everyone at The Towers and they loved her. The entire Towers team offered compassion, love and support for mom and our family during all of her transitions. We were so grateful to have mom at such a special place with people who loved her as much as we did! "

"My friend is in Chesterfield Heights Gracious Retirement Living. The overall experience has been wonderful for her. The community is very active there. There are all kinds of things going on all the time. Also, she can go to and fro. She no longer is able to drive, but she has all kinds of activities there. The food is very good, and the place is very clean. They just redid the entire inside with painting, new carpeting, new furniture in the common areas, and new dining room tables. It just looks great. It's just very, very nice. Her unit is very accommodating for her. She has a studio apartment. It's great, and she has everything she needs. They come in and do the cleaning, change her bed, and do fresh linens, etc. It's just the right size for her. She's talked about the staff in a positive fashion. The staff is very accommodating, like the kitchen staff and the folks who clean the rooms and provide the linens. She does her own laundry. I don't think I've heard anything negative. It's shut down several times for COVID. It changed things a little bit, but they they did their very best to get through all that. There are all kinds of offerings, and there's no lack of things to do or groups to be involved with. She's very pleased with her value for the money."

"When my wife approached me to leave my home, I was not excited about the move. Nobody wants to leave their home, but I knew it was the best for me. When we arrived at Anthology, now Elance, the staff welcomed us with open arms. We have seen a lot of positive changes with Elance. The food is beyond fantastic. The staff is out of this world, and the activities are so much fun. My wife Shelly and I live in a two bedroom with our dog Teddy. We were not going to move anywhere without him."

"I toured Brandermill Woods. It looked like it was well-maintained and cheery. They were adequate, and I could get a balcony there. They had a gym. The one person who took us on tour was helpful and seemed like she enjoyed working there."

"My husband and I have been living at Norcroft Apartments. I love the place very well because the rooms are nice and spacious. The bathroom is a big enough for my husband and I. The staff is wonderful. They have quite a few programs. They take us out to grocery stores and to where I get my hair done. They have exercise and also have certain days for seniors like music day. I like that because I don't get a chance to get out much. They have transportation, so I like that a lot. The food and the dining room are wonderful. The food is good. I'm diabetic, and they make sure I have the right meal. It is wonderful. The facility is really good. My husband and I really don't have anything to worry about. You can see the security walking around, and the doors are lock automatically. "

"My parents-in-law moved into Brandermill Woods. It's been fabulous. They pay very close attention to them. They're checking on them or, if they have difficulties, helping them out, the nurses come in and check on them. The apartment that they were in was absolutely beautiful. They have great and well-balanced meals. It was nicely presented, and the waitstaff was wonderful as well. We've also had the meals delivered to their apartment, which has been very good as well. They have something going on every day. I know my in-laws have participated in their church services and exercise program. They have a bridge club and watch movies. They take them shopping several times a week to different locations. They have a beauty parlor over there."

"I am a resident of Forest Creek. It's nice and quiet. When something happens or something goes wrong with your apartment, they come out and fix it, and don't take them two or three or four days - they come right out and take care of it. I love it. I have a living room, a two-bedroom, a kitchen, a dining room, and a little front porch. They have a clubhouse here. They keep the outside, cut the grass, and everything. So, they keep it up on the outside, and anything going on the inside. They come in and fix it. They have a club, and they have different things on Sunday. They have a preacher to come and preach. They serve dinner to the tenants. They have po-ke-no, bingo, and a lot of games and stuff that you can participate in."

"I toured Lakewood two years ago. We really liked it. My parents just couldn't afford it because they had to buy-in. You had to pretty much sell your property or use all your assets to put money down. It's almost like you're buying a house. It was a beautiful property. They had nice putt-putt areas, a walking trail, an indoor pool, and a garden area. It was a place I would love to be for myself. It was a nice facility. They even had individual houses that you could start off in, but we also liked the apartments. They had a nice cafeteria, and the food looked good."

"My friend has moved into Guardian Place. It's very nice. It's a secure building. They check on you every day. They have a lot of nice parking spaces there. It's monitored very well. It's nice and clean. My friend cooks there. They don't have a restaurant there. They have nice activities. They have a beauty parlor and a barbershop. They have a posting board of activities that are going on there. They have different activities every week. She is comfortable with what she is paying."

"The Park at Ridgedale was very nice. The lady that was there was very informative. But they didn't have an apartment available for me to see at the time. They gave me handouts, explained everything to me, and answered any questions that I asked. "
