"Lakewood Manor was an independent, assisted, and memory care facility. It was one that my mom knew about. I liked how clean and how detailed everything was. The staff was interacting with the residents. I liked the numbers of the activities that they had. I liked their dining option. Also, I liked just how well it looked as far as care and cleanliness. It looked like they pay attention, and they updated it regularly. They had outings to grocery stores or shopping centers. They also had activities to conferences and different happenings in different places. They provided transportations to doctors' appointments. They had a newsletter that they published, and they had activities listed throughout the facility depending on which section you were in. The rooms were very nice and well kept. They redo them when the residents left. That motion captors in them and the latest energy efficient appliances. The surrounding was very nice and green, and it was quiet. They had benches that were on the path. When you went walking, you could stop and sit outside if you wanted. It had lots of open space. "

"The administrator is dynamic and involved. The environment is very clean and fresh. There is lots of activity and bustling energy. The rooms are a bit small compared to other facilities, but this one would be one of the top 2 of the 5 we've visited this weekend, with The Laurels being number 1. "

"My mom is in Beth Sholom. We chose it because they are caring. They care for the elderly. They are compassionate for these people. They treat my mom better than the other place she has stayed. They have all kinds of activities. They are involved in everything. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have snack bars for them. Everybody is friendly. They take them out all the time. They take them to the bank, the post office, or wherever they want to go. They will take my mother to her doctor's appointments. They have a rec room where they do their activities. The luncheon there is great. It is just a wonderful place. "

"Hi there. I am W.S.S. and I was a patient at The Laurels at University Park for 4 months (03-07 in 2013) when I was dying and was under hospice care. I have been in other nursing facilities and found The Laurels pretty good in overall experience. Granted, there are always going to be a few staff members at ANY facility that probably need some training, or more empathy, or whatever, but I found the nurses, aides, and general staff to be pretty good here (I had 1 male aide that became a bit contrary, but everyone else was cool.) We live in an imperfect world and folks are human. No matter what we expect for the type of care we or our loved ones receive you have to put the human element into the equation before summing it up, and I can tell you from personal experience that The Laurels is a decent place to be. Everyone has a different and unique experience at each nursing facility and this one is better than others that have been rated more highly. Sometimes we should to be grateful for what we receive. "My mother's mental health was quickly declining. Her dementia was getting worse. My sister could no longer care for her and we found ManorCare. I went and took a tour of the facility and was impressed by the friendly staff and the homelike atmosphere. I even took my mother and she felt very comfortable here. Mom has been here about a month and she is still settling in but everyone from the care staff to the doctors as well as the front office has been very helpful and accommodating. I think we picked the right place for my mother and for our family !! An extra shout out to the Director and front office staff. We had a very tight deadline to move my mother and they were very helpful throughout the process. Thank you all for what you do !! God Bless !! "

"Westminster Canterbury is excellent; the room is decorated really nicely with a pretty carpet. The staff is very nice, smiling, and friendly too. They have a lot of activities for the residents. They have a swimming pool, arts and crafts, exercise classes, choirs, and an auditorium where they have shows and plays. "

"I have a friend that is living there and we visit her freuqently. She used to go to church with us and now can't go. She loves it there and there are lots of organizations and churches that come to see the residents. I highly recommend this place if you are looking in the Richmond area! "

"When my mother was hospitalized for pneumonia, it became clear that she needed to live in a more supportive environment where someone would be around to keep an eye on her physical and emotional health. After visiting several assisted living communities in my area, I decided on Our Lady of Hope, which is affiliated with the Catholic diocese. When I first walked through the doors, I was struck by the patterned wallpaper and the cleanliness of the facility. It truly seemed like "home," and I felt sure that my mother would feel comfortable in this environment. Our Lady of Hope has several levels of care and a number of different room layouts, including those which are dedicated to short-term rehab. Residents can start out in assisted living with a fairly full schedule of activities, or they may transition to the health care wing and/or the Christopher Pavillion, which houses the dementia and Alzheimers patients. In addition to having a very large staff of medical professionals, Our Lady of Hope boasts an on-site Chaplain, an activities director, a registered dietician, a beauty salon and much much more. Our Lady of Hope is one of the better facilities in the greater Richmond area. You have a lot of choices, which makes it seem like "home" instead of an institution. The connection with the church adds a spiritual component that is so important to those in the twilight of their years. My mother's mood and spirits are so much brighter since she moved to Our Lady of Hope. "

"The staff at Lucy Corr Village is good; everyone seems to be polite and available. They’re a rehab center also, so they have things that they can do. My mother was having a lot of urinary tract infections at home, and she didn’t like to take her medicine at home but will take it through them. She’s doing well. "
