"Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe was the preferred choice. Their food was excellent. The dining room experience was a little chaotic, with people coming and going. The service was attentive, so it was good. It's a large place with multiple stories. Each room has a balcony. The challenge was that the elevators were dark, and there was not a lot of bright lighting. They can be confusing because some of the elevators have doors on either side. My mother is blind, and would not be able to operate them. My father was uncomfortable because it was so dark. The salesperson was excellent. The person who led the tour was also excellent. The dining staff was very attentive. The residents were engaging and came up to my parents and talked. The director of activities saw us and met with us and was very enthusiastic. I think they realized that my mother couldn't see well and had profound hearing loss, so they were able to engage her without being rude."

"Sancerre Atlee Station is brand new. It's within three miles from our daughter's home and also about three miles from a local medical facility hospital in the area. We liked the apartments that were available. We liked the size, what they looked like, and all that. The staff was very informative and answered our questions. The facility was very clean."

"We did a tour of Bickford of Chesterfield, and several items made it on my list. It was very clean and well taken care of. It was a single floor and had gardens that people could walk out into. They have a very flexible menu and dining venues. The structure was relatively new, every five years or something like that, I can't remember. The personnel and staff all seemed very friendly. This combination of things was a general impression. It was just that well-kept facility. They had nice-sized rooms. I like the layout of the 1-bedroom facilities, and I like the amenities"

"I went to The Harmony Collection at Hanover. It was really good. I like the people there. The people were very, very nice. They followed up extremely well. All of those things I liked about it, but I could never get my mom signed up there. My mom just wouldn't go. They were very flexible and very good though. Their dining room was nice. Everything was good there. I like that. The staff who took us around was great. We had lunch there, and it was good. The building was well-kept."

"We got my mother at The Crossings. It was brand new, and the location was perfect. We tried eating there, and it was very good. They have many activities throughout the day. "

"My mother-in-law has been living in Morningside of Bellgrade for two months. The place is very clean and they're very caring. Everybody is upbeat. Patients are out and about and they do not live in their room which is one of the reasons we chose it. They are out socializing on couches and chairs talking to each other. My mother-in-law has a double bed in her room and two lounge chairs. She also has a large TV and large dresser and she's not cramped. It had space for a refrigerator and microwave, but my mother-in-law is having meals in the restaurant. They can also have pets. They do her laundry and bring it back to her. They hang it up in the closet for her and put her clothes in her drawer. If I call and ask a question, they always find me an answer. They have a beauty shop on premises and a doctor or nurse practitioner that comes four days a week. I would like for them to have a larger common area outside though for them to go to instead of just the front of the building. They have a variety of activities to do."

"Sunrise's people were very nice and seemed to be well run. I did not have any issue with it whatsoever. The room was clean, nice, and neat. The food was very good, and the staff was very attentive. They had all kinds of excursions and group meetings. Every day, there were different things to do. I could live there. "

"We toured The Crossroads at Bon Air. What I like best is that they offer meals that are included in the plan, which is workable within my budget. Even if you don't do the meals, they offer about 10 options of food items that are always available. They do have a full kitchen with an oven, and all that stuff. They also have a stackable washer-dryer that you could use to wash your clothes. They offer to clean your apartment once a week and change your sheets. They have a room where you take your trash in, which is nearby. So, all of that is good stuff. They have a library, and they have two different buses that will take you to your medical appointments. One bus, to medical appointments, then the other bus takes you to Walmart or Publix, and to events like the symphonies and all that good stuff. There are a lot of activities. They have a whole calendar of activities that go on, and they say, if you're bored, it's your problem, because you don't want to do things. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We saw the dining room, and the folks came to your table and served you. You have a limited menu of what you can pick from that you want, and they serve you restaurant-style."

"My mother is 90 and has been at Heritage Green for 10 months. Originally had her own room, but now is preparing to move into a suite with a new friend. The facility is in excellent condition and the staff are uniformly cheerful, knowledgeable, understanding, energetic and honest. There are daily, interesting, well attended activities and the food is plentiful and tasty. Could not be happier with the place!"

"The staff at Spring Arbor was good, but we just talked to the sales people. Their rooms were very nice. The dining room was neat and clean. They had a lot of daily activities like bingo. "

"We love Brookdale Midlothian, but we only saw one room, and it's a private room with a private bath. It's absolutely wonderful. The lady who helped us was very informative and very helpful. I'm like kicking myself that I didn't look at another room. I was so thankful that my uncle can bring his own furniture there, that I just was overwhelmed and forgot all of the questions to ask. It's clean. The staff was kind. We appreciated the opportunities for caring for the residents, knowing that they look in on the residents. They're not just in their rooms; they encourage them to eat in the dining room. It's a beautiful dining room and it just seemed like a good place, welcoming, and kind. They have a bus that will take them to different events that they have, which I think is really wise. They have a resident council that tells them what they would like to do, like one lady suggested, "Let's go out for coffee and pie to some restaurant," which the young person who plans activities wouldn't have thought about that, but for that generation, that's something they enjoy doing. They listened and they took them, and I think that's great. It's a beautiful place."

"In June of this year my 88 year old Mother fell and broke her femur. 7 days in a hospital; 101 days in a nursing home. I had to find a place for my Mom to live out her final days because she should not go back home to live alone. God above directed me to Commonwealth Assisted Living. From the minute I walked in I knew it was the right place. Not knowing my Mom's final discharge date from the nursing home they worked with me from the beginning to reserve her room. Her care has been above and beyond anything I could have prayed for. You can always tell when staff is just doing their job and when they have a passion for what they do. This staff love what they do. My Mom contracted a virus from a outside health care worker (Not employee of Commonwealth Assisted - they have guidelines to not spread any sickness should staff get sick) and within 2 days my Mom had double pneumonia. Had this been any other Assisted Living they would have admitted her to the hospital and not cared for her. But the head nurse along with the Dr. there along with the rest of the aids nursed her back to health. They forced her to drink liquids to stay hydrated and gave me updates several times a day. My Mom lived in the same house with my dad for 53 years until he passed almost 4 years ago. Living on her own for 3.5 with the families help. I just knew the transition was going to be so difficult for her. But it was harder on me that it was on her. She has adapted great. As with any facility communication is the main thing that is needed. I from the beginning established communication and talk to several of the staff several times a week. I'm sure things are not perfect there (there are not "perfect" facilities because there are no perfect people) but in my eyes Commonwealth Assisted Living at Chesterfield are as perfect as they come. My prayer is that my Mom can live out her final days right there. "

"I went to visit, and my mother will be moving in there. It was very handy for me. It's probably 10 minutes from my home. It's very warm and inviting when you go in, the way it's laid out, it's laid out very well for seniors. It's just got a pocket door for the bathroom, so she doesn't have to maneuver her walker around the door. The showers are built strictly for rollers rolling in in a wheelchair or in a walker, which is very handy for her. She has her own window bunk that looks out over the lawn and all the rooms have a view of some description, which is nice. It's just lovely there. I thought the persons that I worked with thus far, which have been strictly the sales and marketing people, have been very nice. The building is beautiful, it's awesome."
