"The people at The Retreat at Berryville seem very friendly and very open. Our experience has been pretty much hands off because of COVID, so what I can see is limited. There's a plexi-glass and you can visit in-between it. Their staff is very friendly and the community itself is very nice."

"We went to Whispering Pines Assisted Living. Our experience was excellent. The administrator, Ginger, was very helpful, very knowledgeable, and very nice. Everybody was nice. Everything was very clean. The rooms were very nice, clean and large. Both times we went, it was lunchtime, so they were all gathered for lunch. The atmosphere seemed very nice, very homey, and very pleasant for all of their residents. Ginger was excellent at explaining everything in detail and taking care of everybody. Mainly everything was excellent due to our involvement with Ginger, the administrator."

"White Springs Senior Living was great. I think, overall, my aunt would have liked this one better because of where it's at and the scenery. The dining hall was a nice area. They also had a nice area for them to go out on a patio."

"It is a very small community, and they're getting their license for memory care. It feels more personal because it's small. My mom is in a shared suite, which is nice, she has her own bedroom, and shares the bathroom and sitting room. They have daily activities for the residents also. The staff I met there was also very nice, and my mother seems to like the food."

"It seemed nice, it had pretty good views, and it seemed like the staff was attentive, cared, and seemed to address the patients' issues well. The rooms were pretty decent, seemed adequate for the time they spend there, they don't really spend a whole lot of time in their room, but for a room, it's pretty nice and seems adequate enough for serving them. They could use a few more activities. Right now, they do have some, they do take them on field trips from time to time, and it would be nice to see them do a little more than what they do now. Even activities on the weekend, doesn't seem to be a lot on the weekend, but it does seem like they at least try to do some stuff with them. The food seems alright, food seems good, my grandmother seems happy with it, seems like it's okay with her. She has her preferences on things, and when she wants other things, they do provide her with other food if she's like it so there's alternate menus which is good. She's in the memory care part of the community. "

"Hidden Springs Senior Living was really good. We're not going to be able to put mom in there because we can't afford it, but my son, who is 12, is impressed with the stuff they have going on for the people there. He wanted his grandmother to go there. I toured both the assisted living and the memory care over there. I liked the setup for the memory care. It was nice, but their assisted living seemed to be on top of it. I would highly recommend somebody to go over there and look at it. They have hydration stations. They make sure, no matter what, every couple of hours, everyone goes to the hydration station and they have flavored waters and things already set up. My son loved everything that was over there. This summer, for activities, they have Nerf skeet shooting. They had a lot of Nerf stuff. They had water guns for some of the younger folks. They can go out there and do that. It's hot outside, so everybody's doing cold stuff outside. They had a nice walking trail for everybody to use. Each room had a window that face out to the grounds. We're in the mountains, so you get a mountain view, deer in the backyard, that kind of a thing. They had their own spa day and everybody can come in and do haircuts. They have a giant spa tub that everybody gets to use. They have physical therapy that comes in. They have an assigned physician that comes over and his nurse practitioner. Then they have onsite RNs and LPNs, and some CNAs running around. They have transportation available to get to doctors' appointments. They were midrange price for Virginia. Our mom ultimately came down to needing memory care, and it was only going to be $6000 a month. The only thing that wasn't helpful for us was that they don't use Medicare or Medicaid. This is a strictly pay out-of-pocket facility."

"The staff was very nice and takes good care of my mom. The best thing is that it's reasonably priced compared to all the others we've looked at. She's in a shared apartment with her own bedroom and shares the living room and bathroom. The food looks good, and they have activities, like bingo. They try to involve my mom, and the activities director is really good."

"My mother is in Dutch Haven Assisted Living and I like it all. The layout is great, and it's broken up into little sections. The attendants, nurses, and aides are superior. The dining area is always clean and they serve the food according to the patients; they're great. They do activities like bingo, little art activities, planting activities, and they actually brought in a little bird aviary with finches in it so they can all enjoy it. It has been great. The staff is great and the residents all seemed to enjoy the food, and they fix it the way they can have it. It's an older community, and it's an older home that's converted, so it's very homey and comfortable. They have a lot of activities."

"Green Valley Commons was awful and very depressing. The setup for the rooms was not what we would have wanted for our mom. They have shared double rooms, which is typical. Each bathroom is shared by four people, so you have to come out of your room, go into the hallway, and into the bathroom assigned to you. I felt that was very uncomfortable, and very invasive in terms of privacy. For example, it's not private if an elderly person needed to be changed because they had soiled themselves, and after a shower they have to get dressed before they can come out, since they'd be in a public hallway after using the bathroom. It's probably the least expensive place, and it's as good as it can be for the price. We checked the dining area and it as kind of depressing. There's a door to it that leads off into the smoking area, so the smell kind of leads back into the dining area. It was an immedidate turnoff for me."

"The Village at Orchard Ridge is very nice, and it had amenities that the other places I looked at did not. Their employees are very nice, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. It's like a half-mile back from the road, so you have to drive half a mile through a nice landscaped road to get to the place. It's like two miles from Winchester Medical Center and five minutes from Walmart. I couldn't begin to list their activities and amenities, there are just too many. They have a full schedule of anything and everything, they have a library that the other places didn't have, and they provide transportation. The price is expensive when you get into it, but when you're going to be there for five years or more, it's comparable."

"I highly recommend this small home-like facility owned and operated by Gerontology Certified Registered Nurses.Care for your loved ones is supervised by nurses.You will feel safe for your parents knowing that the caregivers and management know what they are doing.The management is reachable 24 hours a day. The care is very personal and the caregivers are very patient, kind and compassionate.They encourage family and friends to visit.It is located on the foothills and the place DOES NOT look and smell like nursing home. They are also cheaper than other families, but the quality and services are superb. God bless this place."
