"My husband and I will be moving to The Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. We choose it because we have a daughter, a son-in-law and grandchildren in that area. I am also from that area so it feels like I am going back home. I like their set up because they go from individual cottages, to apartments, to assisted living and then nursing home. In other words, it is progressive. It goes to hospital stage. The staff is very nice. We are moving to a two-bedroom, two bath facility. There is a kitchen in the apartment, but I will not be cooking that much. It will be small but it will be sufficient. They have three dining rooms in different areas where we can eat. They have everything undercover so you don't have to walk out in the winter. They have a bank, a gift shop, a library and beauty parlor inside the buildings. The buildings are connected with covered walkways. "

"My mother-in-law has been a resident at the Phoenix at Harrisonburg for over a year and has really enjoyed it and highly recommends. Management is great – always helps to resolve problems. Staff are extremely helpful and very good at what they do. Beautiful clean facility – that is well-kept inside and out. I love seeing their seasonal décor in the lobby area. Everything in the facility is easy for her to navigate with her rollator. The maintenance guy is excellent and always quick to hang items on the wall when asked. The chef is always open to meal suggestions and feedback. The Phoenix location is perfect – very close to the hospital which is convenient for doctor appointments. Mother-in-law really enjoys the craft activities and bus trips (some of her favorites include Gift and Thrift, library, getting ice cream, Green Valley Book Fair, and looking at Christmas lights). Activities and outings have all increased since the Phoenix at Harrisonburg has grown. She also enjoys it when outside groups come for activities – such as musicians and local schools. My husband and I have attended various activities during her stay and have really enjoyed them – such as Christmas Open House, Thanksgiving family meal, bingo, family breakfast, Valentine’s Day dance, and Mother’s Day tea. She loves the snacks and drinks put out in the bistro area for the residents. We have really enjoyed using the activity room for larger family get-together’s – layout and ability to reserve makes it super easy and convenient for our holiday meal. Phoenix is best fit for our needs."

"The Presbyterian was too big. Everything was so nice. I would be happy to move there myself, but she thought it was too big. The apartments were very nice. The security was wonderful. I thought that was great. "

"This is a wonderful facility with very caring and knowledgeable staff. It is the cleanest facility i have ever visited. The staff knows how to treat people with Alzheimer's and really do a good job of making sure the residents are secure and clean. They can travel around the facility but they have a wrist band that locks the doors so they can't get out and wonder off. they have a monitor that lets the staff know if any problem arises and each room has a nurse call button. Just a wonderful place to be when you can no longer take care of yourself or loved one. "

"My family member lived here for several years I was so impressed with the family attention to detail, the owner is an RN and very knowledgeable about the care of the residents. The facility has a warm homelike feeling the minute you walk in and as clean as brand new. There were always activities, bus trips, game rooms,Sunday church service, something for everyone. This was the most cost effective community we visited within 100 miles. We still go back to visit. This family owned community is the best. You will never go wrong here. "

"My sister is happy here. At first, we didn't have nowhere to put her, and they took her. She's happy there. They really take good care of her with her condition. She's dying of cancer, and they keep a close eye on her. She's a heavy smoker and that's the only one we found where she's allowed to smoke, and we didn't want to take that away from her with her dying. As long as she can get up and go to smoke. They're just all around good people. At certain nights of the week there's no med tech there, so if you're in severe pain and it's after 11:00, you have to deal with it. It's very clean. They get three proper meals a day and it's good quality food. You got to watch cholesterol and sugar and all that stuff, but they have healthy meals, too. They're allowed to go out and walk and do activities. They are allowed to go to the Elkton Community Center, and they do activities down there."

"We visited Bridgewater for my relative. Everything was fine. I liked it because it offered everything, like if you went into assisted living or needed more help. The staff was good. Their rooms were not as big as the others I've seen. "

"My wife is pretty happy in Shenandoah Terrace. The community is new, and my wife likes it. They are helping her with everything like bathing, dressing, toiletries, and food."

"My brother has been here about 25 years an is handicapped. He LOVES it. I would highly recommend it. It is not new but they give them love food an fun an all they need.Very reasonable. Any visits to them will b very appreciated by them as most get no visitors. We live in SC so not get their often but I do call an here can here me and smiles because he cannot talk. "

"My mom took physical and occupational therapy at Life Care Center of New Market. They were pretty accommodating. They fed her three meals a day. They got double occupancy and each room had its own bathroom and a separate shower room. They had a nice physical therapy room and stuff. Each wing of the facility had a cleaning lady that cleans the hallways and each room every day. Medicare paid for her stay the whole time except for one week when we kept her there an extra week. We paid out of pocket and it was very expensive, but I think we got our money's worth."

"Oak Grove Manor was very good. It was set back from the road, so my mom wouldn't be able to run to it, but they wouldn't take her. The people were very kind. Even though they wouldn't take her, it was an excellent facility, and I would have loved to have my mom there."

"I've looked into Brightview and it seemed to be a really nice place. Everything seemed alright, but it's just too expensive. It also seemed that you had to be in a better mental capacity, so you'd be able to get around better in their facility. They offered all kinds of stuff, they'd give it to you and everything, but my father wasn't capable of attending that type of stuff. That's one reason, I guess, why they were that expensive, and I simply couldn't afford their fees. "

"My father was in The Legacy before he passed. The staff is awesome, and they made me want to go to home health care. It meant so much to my parents with their kindness. The first day in the dining room, they know your name and what you are drinking. If you don't come out to dinner, they call you. The rooms are nice and clean. It is light and airy as well. They have some activities like going to Wal-Mart. They cater you; if you have a doctor's appointment and you need a ride, they have a chauffeur that takes you. If you need help with a prescription, they'll take you there as well. I really like it; I just wish it wasn't too far. "
