"My family member lived here for several years I was so impressed with the family attention to detail, the owner is an RN and very knowledgeable about the care of the residents. The facility has a warm homelike feeling the minute you walk in and as clean as brand new. There were always activities, bus trips, game rooms,Sunday church service, something for everyone. This was the most cost effective community we visited within 100 miles. We still go back to visit. This family owned community is the best. You will never go wrong here. "

"I went to see the assisted living at English Meadows Harrisonburg Campus. This was my first time experiencing a modern home healthcare place, and there were some positive and negative things. Overall, it was a positive experience, but there is one thing that sticks out in my head. I showed up for my appointment and there was a guy making chocolate chip cookies. When I went into the room with the person I was talking with, her boss brought these cookies in, which I thought was nice. Then we walked around the buildings and did a bunch of things. When we came back, two ladies were holding and hiding the cookies. It was uncomfortable, and I did not like that. It was a staff member and her boss who met me and they were very kind and very thorough. I had a lot of questions and they answered them. I enjoyed my time as I walked through with them. I liked the spaces of accommodations and individual living. I liked the open areas for when your parents have to live in the assisted living part of the home. They had the menus on the board and I took a photo of them because I'm all about health and nutrition. We have to make sure that if my mom is going to be living there, she'll be getting those nutrients. I think a lot of the food here was like Sysco products rather than fresh ones. It was a very nice building. The layouts and the outside areas were very nice. There were a lot of places for people to go and do different things, even gardening."

"The Presbyterian was too big. Everything was so nice. I would be happy to move there myself, but she thought it was too big. The apartments were very nice. The security was wonderful. I thought that was great. "

"My husband and I will be moving to The Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. We choose it because we have a daughter, a son-in-law and grandchildren in that area. I am also from that area so it feels like I am going back home. I like their set up because they go from individual cottages, to apartments, to assisted living and then nursing home. In other words, it is progressive. It goes to hospital stage. The staff is very nice. We are moving to a two-bedroom, two bath facility. There is a kitchen in the apartment, but I will not be cooking that much. It will be small but it will be sufficient. They have three dining rooms in different areas where we can eat. They have everything undercover so you don't have to walk out in the winter. They have a bank, a gift shop, a library and beauty parlor inside the buildings. The buildings are connected with covered walkways. "

"This is a wonderful facility with very caring and knowledgeable staff. It is the cleanest facility i have ever visited. The staff knows how to treat people with Alzheimer's and really do a good job of making sure the residents are secure and clean. They can travel around the facility but they have a wrist band that locks the doors so they can't get out and wonder off. they have a monitor that lets the staff know if any problem arises and each room has a nurse call button. Just a wonderful place to be when you can no longer take care of yourself or loved one. "

"I've looked into Brightview and it seemed to be a really nice place. Everything seemed alright, but it's just too expensive. It also seemed that you had to be in a better mental capacity, so you'd be able to get around better in their facility. They offered all kinds of stuff, they'd give it to you and everything, but my father wasn't capable of attending that type of stuff. That's one reason, I guess, why they were that expensive, and I simply couldn't afford their fees. "

"The apartments at The Legacy are incredibly spacious! I have not been able to find any other apartments like them at any Assisted Living communities in the Staunton area. My family has had good interactions with the staff. Stanford and Kate were VERY helpful with moving mom on tight timeline. And the front desk folks have been nothing but kind and welcoming. Mom loves sitting outside on the beautiful patio out back. "

"Oak Grove Manor was very good. It was set back from the road, so my mom wouldn't be able to run to it, but they wouldn't take her. The people were very kind. Even though they wouldn't take her, it was an excellent facility, and I would have loved to have my mom there."

"I toured Birch Ridge. I like that it's small. I like the grounds. The man couldn't have been nicer to answer my questions. I've had a good experience. The facility was very clean. It probably needs to be modernized and updated. It has the feel of being old, but it was clean. The rooms are nice, but their common area, the furniture, it's old."

"My sister is happy here. At first, we didn't have nowhere to put her, and they took her. She's happy there. They really take good care of her with her condition. She's dying of cancer, and they keep a close eye on her. She's a heavy smoker and that's the only one we found where she's allowed to smoke, and we didn't want to take that away from her with her dying. As long as she can get up and go to smoke. They're just all around good people. At certain nights of the week there's no med tech there, so if you're in severe pain and it's after 11:00, you have to deal with it. It's very clean. They get three proper meals a day and it's good quality food. You got to watch cholesterol and sugar and all that stuff, but they have healthy meals, too. They're allowed to go out and walk and do activities. They are allowed to go to the Elkton Community Center, and they do activities down there."

"I went to Birch Gardens of Royal Care. It is a very pleasant location and a very nicely designed facility. Big space. It had plenty of places for the residents to sit and enjoy games and activities and a nice garden out back. The bedrooms and the bathrooms are all well-designed for people with varying degrees of disability. The staff is very respectful and helpful. The building is very attractive and very clean. It's an older building, but it's well-kept."

"We looked at the memory care of The Retreat at Fishersville. Everybody was really nice. The rooms were alright and whatnot, and all the elderly patients seemed to be pretty happy with what they had and where they were at. The grounds were OK. When I was talking to the ladies, they said they were getting the garden started. The dining area was excellent. It was like a restaurant. They have a calendar full of activities and they were color coded."

"All I can say Is Wow! Shenandoah Nursing was the best choice for our father. My family began looking for long term care for my father and we've been on Shenandoah's wait list for a long while. I can see now why there Is a wait list. The staff are wonderful, treated each one of my sisters and our father like he was family. They went above and beyond what you would expect to make our father comfortable and he's a particular gentleman to say the least. Everyone there Is happy to be there, staff included and It shows. The director of nursing and her team of nursing staff always made us feel comfortable. Invited us to call or stop in at anytime. What a relief that was to us knowing our father was getting the best care. The facility Is immaculate, food was great and we didn't want for anything while our father was a resident.
