I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister stayed in Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes. We left because they couldn't tend to the level of care their residents required of them. They had no professional nursing staff. Nobody was certified. Nobody was a licensed LPN or an RN. They're all aides. Their assisted living is abysmal. They don't have anybody on the cleaning staff. They grab one of the aids and say, just go clean up some. They don't have trained culinary staff. It's either that the vegetables are underdone and too crunchy, or they're overdone and just mush, and they're swimming in water. They don't have this like in the other facility with the little monkey dishes that you put the separate vegetables, and whatever, in. They would just put it on a plate altogether, and whatever ran into everything else, so be it. They would serve it on paper plates. They had paper napkins. Once in a while, they would run out of the bibs for folks to protect their clothing. It was mismanaged from start to finish. The head night nurse had a dog who had a litter of puppies. She brought the sire, the female parent, and all the puppies into the assisted living facility during her shift to keep an eye on the puppies. She wasn't being paid to watch the puppies. She was being paid to work at the facility. My sister is one of the few people in residence there who still has all of her hearing. She heard this big, deep bark because they were like German Shepherd dogs. And it was the two adults and all the puppies. So, my sister brought it up and complained to the management that they had this bunch of dogs overnight, and it kept her awake because they were barking. And that nurse just turned on my sister. She just had it out for her, and that's what finally happened in the last week she was there. She had an open-faced turkey sandwich with gravy. She asked if the bread was gluten-free. She said we forgot. So, they took it back and had a loaf of gluten-free bread we supplied. They didn't even take care of it themselves over there. We supplied a lot of the products that she needed, and we'd even supply substitute meals because they couldn't handle it. We had provided a loaf of gluten-free bread. It was a month and a half old, so it was stale. So, they remade her plate with the stale bread. The next night, they had hot dogs. She can't have a hot dog bun. So, they gave her a naked hot dog, no ketchup, no mustard, no onions, no relish, no nothing. So, she got a single bald, bare hot dog However, there was a lady there. Her name is Violet. She goes above and beyond. They had bingo, volleyball with a balloon, and pool noodles to hit the thing with. She would keep the residents active as much as she could. But she only worked three, maybe four days a week. She wasn't there full-time, but she was wonderful. But anybody else in there, I wouldn't give the time of day.

We are extremely pleased with Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes. It is a Christian community. I have sisters and brothers that go by there. We have developed a first-name basis on the attendance. They're extremely educated and well versed in caring for elderly people. We find them to be extremely helpful. We are very pleased. Mom wants to come home, of course, but knowing that that's not possible anymore, we are pleased that she's getting the care that we feel she needs. She's just in assisted living. The dining area is pleasing. The rooms are normal sized and it has an adjoining bathroom. We have requested a single room with a bathroom, but it wasn't available yet. The one that she has is adjoining. There are two rooms supplied by the one bathroom. She seems to be happy with the meals. I don't think any of us have gone to eat a meal with them, but she seems to be pleased with it. They have personal care. They have people that come in to do hair and nails and stuff like that. There's a lady that comes in and does exercise with them if they wanted therapy. There's a doctor that visits the site once a week. They have church services on Sunday morning. During the week, they have craft classes.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents have been in Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes. They have a two-bedroom apartment in the main complex, and it comes with a kitchen, a dining area, and a little Juliet deck. It's clean, has carpeting, central heating air, and they're very happy in that complex. They're down the hall from the dining area, and then they are just an elevator away from a fitness center, the library, and the game room. The community itself also offers one-bedroom apartments, and they have two or three different sizes. They have a nice variety of floor plan options, in addition to semi-detached houses around the campus. The staff is very polite and very friendly too. They have a hair cutter that comes once a week every Thursday, and in the chapel downstairs there's a place that's partly a library, and there are exercise machines scattered throughout near the chapel. On the top floor, there's another library, with stationary bicycles, and running-type machines. It's kind of a dispersed setup. The foods are a la carte, and separate on their contracts, but my parents are diabetic and they do not offer a special menu for that.

My mother moved into Stuarts Drafts Retirement Community, it's very nice, and we liked it very much. The food is very good, and the staff is very nice, and attentive. They serve a dinner meal daily, there's an additional charge for that, and they have an activity calendar that has trips, tea parties, bingo, exercising, movies, and music every week. They have a physical therapy company that is located there, but they charge for the physical therapy of course. It's very clean, well-cared for, she has a very nice studio apartment with a full kitchen and comfortable bathroom, but they also have 1 and 2-bedrooms. Some are in a buildings, and some are separate, like in a house setting. It's family-owned, and the family is on site frequently. It has a great reputation in the community. The price is the most reasonable we found anywhere, and it's in a beautiful, rural location. She has a great mountain view, so it's very pretty.
