Assisted Living Communities in Christiansburg, VA

"The Harmony Collection at Roanoke - Assisted Living is my favorite. They have the same amenities. The only extra thing this one has is a movie theater on the third floor. It's a huge screen with chairs set up, but they have a popcorn machine, too. The rooms are the most gorgeous apartment rooms I've seen in any of them. It's a newer building, too. They're really big, and they have things like built-in bookcases or places to display things. It's nice. They would replace the carpet and paint, and when you move in, you would get a brand new room. I loved the staff who gave the tour. She was probably the only one that got to meet my mother. She was so personable and so cute, and my mother enjoyed meeting her. I saw the patio where they have grills and things like that, and sometimes they have music out there. The patio opens up onto sort of a protected area. They're going to plant some things back there that would protect it from the wind and such. There's an overhang so that you're not going to get burned by the sun or wet by the rain. They would do your laundry and clean your room twice a week. It costs more, and it's the most expensive, but everything is included. There's nothing extra for you to pay for."

"I loved the Harmony independent living. The tour was excellent and everyone was very friendly and helpful. When the time comes for me to downsize I hope to become a resident at Harmony."

"I've visited English Meadows Blacksburg Campus. It's the best that I've seen in terms of the activities that they do, the rooms, the staff, and the happiness of the residents. They have different games. And they have a separate area for that from the dinner and lunch area. They do field trips and things, and they were going to the mall when we were there. We toured the entire assisted living area, and the floor was clean, there was nothing around, and it wasn't dirty."

"We toured Warm Hearth Village. It was very nice. They have very nice facilities like an indoor pool and a very nice workout area. They also have classes. They have individual living, then they have assisted living, and then beyond that, they had the dementia unit. The staff were very knowledgeable, and they answered all of our questions very well."

"There were multiple things that I liked about The Wybe & Marietje Kroontje Health Care Center It was near my home so I could go check on Mom every day, and it was a nice facility. It was well cared for. It's clean. The nursing care was good. We had no complaints. The rehab, the physical therapy, and OT, and its facilities were right there down the hall from where Mom was, and they did a great job with her. They were all very conscientious. The food was a little bit lacking. I tried it one time, and it was just kind of so-so, but I might have been there for a bad meal. Not everybody cooks great every day. Mom didn't participate in the activities, she just wasn't feeling up to it, but they had activities, because I was there when I would go visit her, and I would see them working with the patients. They had group activities as well as PT, OT, and things like that. They also had a courtyard and a covered area for drop off and pick up in front of the front doors. They had very nice facilities outside and inside."

"Absolutely gave my precious Mommy a life that she had not had for a long time. As far as my family is concerned The OAKS is absolutely the best there is. Words are inadequate for the care our mommy, Mary, received there. "

"We have been in a couple of the apartments in Richfield, but it would be a year before we could move in. It's beautiful. If you have to go to assisted living or into a nursing home, they have great facilities. The staff was great. Everybody there was great. There are different levels of living apartments. They have t'ai chi, which I'm very much interested in, exercise groups, different things, and a chapel. The building is absolutely beautiful."

"I moved to Friendship Salem Terrace, and so far, I like just about everything. The food is great. I'm going to have trouble keeping the weight off that I've lost over the past few years, and that's kind of a fun, good thing. Everything else is basically how friendly and thorough everyone has been, just meeting new people. The nurses have a good idea of what your medical needs are, and I've been very happy with the service. The only thing I don't like is that I wish they would serve breakfast past 9 a.m. as I kind of like to sleep in. Everybody gets on a first-name basis with you and treats you like they've known you for years even though that's the first time you've met them. They ask if you have any questions and make sure everything is the way you want it. They have a great variety of food to offer, usually two entrees at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and then all sorts of side dishes, and they always have plenty of desserts available. The cleanliness seems fine, and for the structure, I'm still getting used to what is where. I'm on the first floor and there are some things on the second floor that I haven't quite gotten comfortable with yet. So I'm still in a learning process there, but most of the facilities are in the middle of the complex and that's about where they should be. The activities are a traditional line of everything from bingo to religious services, to groups coming in to perform music or something along that line. Compared to other facilities, it seems to be worth the price. There's plenty of room for me in my room. It's got a nice sunroom, an area that's almost all windows all the way around, so that's very nice. I do have some concerns about the layout, the way it was set up does not seem convenient for what they ended up doing. I don't know if their original plan was adult care or what, but I've got one door that we just took off the hinges because all it does is get in the way and one door that basically we lock and don't use at all anymore because that can get in the way too."

"My mother was at the Memory Care Center for 13 months. They took her on a moment's notice when my dad had a heart attack and could no longer care for her. Staff were very kind to her, worked with her at the level where she was, not where they wanted her to be. She was coaxed to eat, encouraged to participate in activities as she could, and allowed to be alone if she wished. When her condition worsened, staff worked with us and Hospice to make her final days as peaceful as possible. I would highly recommend them to anyone. "

"Brandon Oaks has a great reputation. It is beautiful, but it is out of my price range. They're extremely friendly. I had lunch there and it was great. They have a library. They have everything. They have a pool and a tennis court. You name it, they have it. There's a hospital right down the road, and there's a big shopping center and a restaurant there. You name it, it's there. With regards to upkeep, it's spotless. It's very well maintained."

"My husband is currently at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. They've done a very good job with him, and they're doing regular, weekly COVID testing, and they've been very diligent in keeping that out of there. Even though they have a lot of cases now, they've actually done a very good job. Everybody's been fine, everybody's been very professional, and there's good communication with everybody up there. He seems satisfied with the food."

"My tour of Woodland Hills Community was very good. It was a very lovely facility because it's quite new, so it's very beautiful. And they have some unique features for their residents that are quite nice. One is that they offer enrichment classes for their residents. The residents can learn about all kinds of things while they're there during these enrichment sessions. They have a beautiful facility. The rooms that they used for respite were lovely. They were like one-bedroom apartments. The kitchens in the entrance area of the room were a little bit cramped, so we weren't quite sure how that would work with a wheelchair or a walker. That was one concern we had about the rooms in that facility. But the dining area was lovely, and the menu looked like gourmet food. The chef was from Italy. We talked with a couple of residents, so that was helpful. Overall, it was a very nice facility, but they required a 30-day respite stay."
