TLC Adult Home is owned and operated by family members who make it their goal to strive toward providing a safe and home like environment for their residents. For country living in a secluded neighborhood TLC Adult Home has the ideal atmosphere for your loved one. LC Adult Home has obtained a state license in residential and assisted living, therefore we are expected to follow procedures and regulations originated and amended by the state. We have regular unannounced visits by Social Services as well as the Health Department. Our home is very spacious with hardwood floors, easy for safe ambulation. The family room has cathedral ceilings and a rock fireplace giving it a comfortable setting for activities as well as visiting with family members and friends. We serve 3 hot meals daily along with snacks. Quarterly visits by a registered dietitian to meet nutritional needs. As well as professional hairdresser services. Laundry service and pharmacy delivery is also provided for our residents. We also offer 2 large walk-in showers that are handicapped accessible along with a Jacuzzi bath. All living facilities are on the ground floor. We provide 24 hour care 7 days a week. "Harmony Hall has improved SO MUCH this year! It's exciting! The atmosphere of the entire place has greatly improved. People are happy like never before. The dining room is being removed and looks fabulous! They have more activities than they have had before. They have much better food....I ate Bar-B-Q up ribs there last week. People were going back for 2nd and 3rd plates of food. So blessed to have my family member here!!! "

"My tour of Woodland Hills Community was very good. It was a very lovely facility because it's quite new, so it's very beautiful. And they have some unique features for their residents that are quite nice. One is that they offer enrichment classes for their residents. The residents can learn about all kinds of things while they're there during these enrichment sessions. They have a beautiful facility. The rooms that they used for respite were lovely. They were like one-bedroom apartments. The kitchens in the entrance area of the room were a little bit cramped, so we weren't quite sure how that would work with a wheelchair or a walker. That was one concern we had about the rooms in that facility. But the dining area was lovely, and the menu looked like gourmet food. The chef was from Italy. We talked with a couple of residents, so that was helpful. Overall, it was a very nice facility, but they required a 30-day respite stay."

"The rooms at Kings Grant Retirement Community were adequate. The dining room was beautiful and the kitchen was nice. The people were nice. They have a much smaller resident ratio to the staff. There were more people working there than there are in the average assisted living, but you pay for that attention. The staff were very professional. They have RN, LPN, as well as CNA. "

"We liked Brandon Oaks. It was nice and clean. The people were friendly. The apartment were a good size. The food was real good."

"The staff at the facility was always very friendly, even when my grandmother was being difficult. They were helpful and it was clear more than one person was involved in the care of my grandmother. The facilities were of a nice size, with room for personal touches and amenities such as a television; however,each room I encountered had a strong odor. While they appeared very clean and organized, the stench was noticeable. The dining and entertainment there was very good; I got to try some of the drinks and food, which were both above my expectations. My grandmother often goes to see the music groups that come and perform for them. Residents can spend time outside, and even be brought to a relatives for a special occasion; for my family, that was thanksgiving at my aunts house. Overall, I would say the positives would be the friendly and competent staff, the size and decor of the rooms, and the entertainment provided. However, I was disenchanted by the rather mysterious smell of the rooms. "

"My husband is currently at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. They've done a very good job with him, and they're doing regular, weekly COVID testing, and they've been very diligent in keeping that out of there. Even though they have a lot of cases now, they've actually done a very good job. Everybody's been fine, everybody's been very professional, and there's good communication with everybody up there. He seems satisfied with the food."

"I have already placed my mother in Hermitage Roanoke, and this place is top notch. They have all kinds of activities; they’ve got a theater room. They’ve got good food and they are well cared for."

"My husband was in Mulberry Creek Assisted Living two years ago and he was there maybe 10 or 11 months. They were really good to him, and he liked that place. It's near my house. The staff is very, very nice. They have been very helpful to get him in, and very easy to register him and everything. Everybody has just been super nice. The nurses and the cleaning staff have been so nice to him and friendly. He's really having a good time because he's very, very outgoing and talkative, and he talks to them all, and two of them told me that they loved him. They're doing really well with food. They don't give him beef. They give him exactly what he has to have. He says it's good and he's enjoying it. He's eaten a whole lot better than he did at home. They have a very good chef, and the food is good. Last year, when he was there before, I ate there a lot, and they always had good food. It's nice, and they keep it clean. They have a lady who's walking around all day, making sure everything is clean. I don't enjoy having to pay that much, but it's pretty reasonable, and I'm satisfied with that too."

"My mom is in Joseph C. Thomas. The staff and the housekeeping is excellent, and the food is just average, but the quality is OK. The room is great and beautiful. It’s private. They keep everything very, very, clean, and there’s no odor. The grounds are excellent and kept very clean, and they are very well maintained. She is happy there. She can sit outside when the temperature is good. "

"I have visited this facility two times per month of a couple of years. I have from one to 3 residents at a time that are hospice patients of mine. I am a hospice social worker and I usually visit patients in their rooms or sometimes in a den-like area that has a table, couches and a tv. The administrator is always open to having a meeting whenever my hospice requests it in order to discuss a resident's situation, to problem solve, discuss safety concerns, etc. there are different levels of care at this facility, depending on how much assistance a person needs,. The facility is willing to keep residents until their death when hospice is involved, as long at the resident's needs are being met. They have activities and a dining room and are willing to bring meals to the room if a resident is not feeling well. They also provide transportation. The staff is mostly friendly, welcoming and helpful and we work together as a team usually. "

"My mom is in long term care with Alzheimers. When my mom was first admitted she could not talk, walk, respond etc. With the care and love she receives from staff and family, she has made remarkable improvements. NO ONE is ever going to take care of your loved ones like you yourself would. But they sure do try. I see patients being treated with kindness and respect. Perfect? No. But everyone is very kinds and loving. Thank you "

"We have known Friendship Manor for years because we've kind of grown up in this community since the 60's. It's a massive facility now all over the valley. The people that we talked to were excellent. They answered all our questions regarding Medicaid, the facility, and services. I can't say anything bad about the staff. The staff interacted with residents. The lady who took us around was very informative. However, the whole facility is basically a hospital floor. Residents are only allowed to have a hospital bed. They cannot bring in any chairs or recliners or anything from their home. They were well taken care of, that was obvious. It was clean, but the actual facility offered nothing as far as homeyness or being welcoming. It literally was a hospital floor that they left exactly the same and put a memory care residence in. The staff who toured us was very accommodating. She worked with our schedule, and she was extremely knowledgeable. She knew what mom would need and what they could offer. She was very helpful with Medicaid, with any of the processes there, and guided us as if we were going to need that to help supplement her being able to pay for this. Honestly, it was $8,400. We were just flabbergasted. It would have been very sad because there was nothing there: no flowers and no garden. They had a 4th-floor balcony as their outdoor area that was completely concrete, nothing inviting or welcoming at all with it. I was just very disappointed with what we saw there. We would never have considered it for her. I felt like the care level was very good though. The staff interacted with the residents. I didn't see anyone sitting alone like what you think of people doing in a nursing home in memory care. You'd kind of think of them being pushed aside. The residents in Friendship were all in various areas where they could be monitored by staff. I don't feel like there was any problem with actual care. I think they were very well taken care of."

"I took a tour of the memory care at Salem Terrace at Harrogate. The memory care is a locked unit where the patients cannot leave, whereas assisted living, they can come and go. It's a very nice community. The building is very attractive. When you go in, there's a visiting area, and that's for the whole facility, no matter what area they're going to be in. And then you take an elevator down to the lower floor for the memory care. When you go into the memory care part, it's like an open area. One end of it is tables where they actually eat, and then down on the other end of it is more of like a lounge area. There's a big TV and some books and things, then along the sides of this big open area is where the rooms are. The individual rooms have a bathroom and a closet for their clothing. Also, at the far end of this open up area, is a door where they can go out onto like a patio area, which is completely closed down. In the nice weather, they can go out and walk around to visit out in this outdoor area, which is very nice. The staff seemed very friendly. Like everywhere, there's not a lot of them, but the ones that I saw seemed very nice. Once a week they go to a music activity, and then a social worker takes them out to terrace where they can go outside. They encourage them to go out and walk around and do that kind of thing. On one of the walls down there they have what I would call a busy board. It's like things that you would manipulate, like a screwdriver or a wrench where you can turn bolts, like a little steering wheel that you can steer around, so there are different items that you manipulate and do different things with, like eye-hand coordination type things. The rooms are small, but they don't really need to have a large room of their own because if they want to do activities, they can go out in that big open activity room. It's mostly a bed and a dresser. They have a nice little closet where they can fit their clothing and things. There's a bathroom with a shower, and they can take showers there in their own space. The flooring is nice. It's not carpet, which is good, because it's cleaner than what it would be with a carpet. The rooms seemed very clean. I was impressed with it."
