Caregiver staff arrive on time, ready to help in a number of ways. They have helped by doing household chore that I either can’t do or it is ver painful for me to do, such as vacuuming and doing dishes. They’ve also assisted me in some serious decluttering! This includes bagging donations and putting the bags in my car. Caregivers have also assisted me by accompanying me so I could run errands and driving me to medical procedures.
When I’ve needed to be driven to medical appointments a bit outside my usual shift, the agency staff have found caregivers who would adjust their schedule to help me out.
I’ve been very happy with the agency staff and the caregivers I’ve had!

Home Care Utopia is the only firm I contacted that was willing to SEARCH for the requested age and gender for the caregiver. Others, had a group of caregivers standing by, and I would have to take a "best fit". This extra service was vital to me, because for care of my 93 year old father, I requested middle aged MEN. A group that is almost non-existent in this line of work. They were also financially attractive, in that they have lower rates for live in help. Having 24 hour 7 days a week care for my father, has taken a HUGE load off of my mind.
They have been on site now for about 8 months, and have had no problems at all, even during personnel changes.Another advantage is that they only swith caregivers twice a week. Changing more often would be confusing to my father who has stage 4 Alzheimers. I know that dad is not doing dangerous things, such as, cooking, going down to the basement to "check the furnace", and so forth.

Ask to see the contract you will sign before you meet with them to discuss hiring them for care, if I would have seen it before meeting with them, I would have moved on to a different company. If you hire someone for in home night care, make sure that you request to sign off on how many times and for how long you were up in the night each morning before the Aide leaves. We paid $2k per week for 8 PM – 8 AM care. If the Aide tells their management that they did not get 5 hours of sleep during that time period Baywood will charge you additional money – which is ridiculous in my opinion when you are already paying $2k per week. Also, there is a lack of consistency in who is coming into your home – someone always different that you have to get acclimated each time they arrive which is challenging. Some concerns with people not coming at their scheduled time as well. While my mom said that the Aides were pleasant, I would not recommend Baywood Home Care.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Shoreview, MN
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living.Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.

Crew Care provides transportation services to qualifying individuals in the community, including those who meet age, need or disability guidelines. Frequently Asked Questions
What types of services can a home care agency in Shoreview provide?
Older adults in Shoreview can obtain a broad range of services through home care depending on their needs and wellness goals. Local home care agencies have caregivers who provide personal care services, such as help with bathing, grooming and toileting, as well as companionship and conversation, accompaniment to medical appointments and help with physician-ordered exercise. Home care providers can also provide medication reminders and meal planning and preparation. Services are available on a short- and long-term basis.
What is the difference between in-home care and home health care?
In-home care is considered nonspecialized and provides assistance with tasks the individual would otherwise be able to do if they didn’t have functional impairments. Personal care attendants may provide assistance with daily living activities, such as dressing, bathing and grooming, and they may help with general household tasks, including light cleaning and laundry. They may also provide medication reminders, meal preparation and transportation to medical appointments or social activities. Home health care is for those who need skilled nursing services. Home health care aides may provide first aid and wound care, assistance with medical devices, such as oxygen tanks or feeding tubes, and assistance with managing ongoing health conditions.
What is the average cost for in-home elderly care in Shoreview?
In Shoreview, older adults pay approximately $6,292 per month for home care. This rate is based on an average hourly rate of $33 and assumes 44 hours of weekly care. This breaks down to a little less than nine hours of care per day over five days per week or about six hours of daily care over seven days per week. Older adults may save money by supplementing paid services with community-based services or help from friends and family for transportation, meals or companionship. On the other hand, they may pay more monthly if they need more hours of daily care.
What is in-home respite care?
Many older adults rely on informal caregivers to provide companionship, help with household tasks and transportation for medical appointments and errands. With in-home respite care, a paid caregiver comes to the individual’s home to take over some of these tasks for a period of time, whether it’s for a couple of hours per week or several days or weeks at a time. This enables the informal caregiver to fulfill other obligations without disrupting their loved one’s care.
What is private pay home care?
Private pay means an older adult or their family uses existing savings or assets to pay for home care services. This may also be known as private duty or paying out-of-pocket, and it’s the most widely accepted form of payment and sometimes the only form of payment home care agencies accept. There are several options for paying out of pocket for home care, including collective sibling agreements, reverse mortgages or an annuity, as well as regular sources of income, such as pensions and withdrawals from retirement savings accounts.
