Margate is in the southern region of Florida and has nearly 60,000 residents. Seniors account for nearly a quarter of the population, which is large compared to the U.S. average senior population of 16.5%, promoting high access to social opportunities and services. Home care agencies in this city charge rates well below state and national medians, with seniors paying an estimated $4,195 per month for services. This type of care provides in-home personal care and help with chores and is different from home health care, which offers skilled nursing services for a higher monthly rate. Margate is also home to HCA Florida Northwest Hospital, which provides emergency services and primary and specialty care.
Below we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Margate area – complete with services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled resources to help seniors and their families to access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Homewatch Caregivers did an excellent job helping to care for my elderly aunt during her last few months before she recently passed away. The owner and the nursing supervisor are very professional, concerned and compassionate. They made every effort to make sure that my aunt had appropriate care as her needs increased and did their best to handle bumps in the schedule. I felt that my aunt’s well-being was of personal concern to them and that she was not “just another client.” The home health aides were very caring and went “above and beyond”. I have no hesitation in recommending Homewatch Caregivers.

Better Healthcare, and Marissa in particular literally saved my and my husband’s life. We moved to Florida late October 2021 and met with Marissa to get help for my husband Jeff whose Parkinson’s Disease had progressed to the point we needed assistance. 2 weeks later he needed kidney stone surgery and went into a downward sprial, needing 2 levels of rehab and placement in an Assisted Living Facility. Marissa provided us with the aids we needed to get through the ordeal, and also gave me her time and gudiance in making the difficult decisions needed. Jeff is now home and finally doing better. But without Marissa’s help, I don’t know if we would have made it. I recommend Better Healthcare to anyone and everyone who needs conpassionate care for their loved ones. And I look forward to using them again when the need arises.

We hired Superb Care for my father-in-law. They are really good. I cannot complain. They set me up with the company that enables us to pay for the in-home health care. The actual healthcare worker is phenomenal. She is awesome. It just has been a really good experience all the way around. She does some light housekeeping. She helps in getting my father-in-law started in the morning. When we originally hired them, my father-in-law could not walk. He is in a wheelchair, and he has to have help in getting into the shower, get dressed, and all that. He recently gained some of his strength, and he is walking with a walker now. He is now getting breathing treatments and help in getting him started.

After that we decided to try a live-in. It was a huge decision to change what was working so well but I was exhausted beyond description. It’s been 6 months now and our live-in is an angel and my mom adores her. Julian and Ava both listened to my concerns and fears and they chose so well. They know that you might have to keep trying new caregivers to find the perfect match and are willing to keep doing that until you are very happy with your person. I am very thankful for this agency one of the best in town.

We chose Caregivers of America to help us care for my mom when she was diagnosed with Cancer. The office staff was extremely understanding and compassionate every time we called with questions. A girl originally from the Bronx, Mom was very outspoken, to say the least. Well, the office staff chose a wonderful, patient aide who mom eventually allowed to help her bathe and get dressed, and kept her close to grab her when she got wobbly. She also took her to and from the Cancer treatment center which she needed because she would get sick on the bus they provided. The aide was punctual and stayed in touch with us. Our experience with Caregivers of America was a blessing in such unfortunate circumstances.

At age 94, my father could no long care for himself, however I did not want to place him in a nursing home. I found Companion Care of South Florida through a referral and engaged them to be care for my father and give him the quality of life and dignity he deserved. Since I lived over 1200 miles away I relied on Companion Care a great deal and they did not disappoint, many times going beyond their normal resposibilites. They kept me informed on practically a daily basis. and relieved the stress and anxiety that had built up prior to my hiring them. They became like a second family to my father and me and they were with him at the end when I could not make it in time. I highly recommend Patty and Michael S. of Companion Care. They treated my Pop as their Pop. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Margate, FL
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-Term Care Insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
- Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
- Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
- Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living.Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
- Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.

Home health care may include these services, but its primary purpose is to provide skilled nursing services to help clients avoid nursing home placement. Services may include disease management, medication administration, tracking vitals and physical or occupational therapy.
Who is eligible for the veterans home care program?
Qualifying veterans may be eligible for the veterans’ home care program, which can help them save money on living and care expenses. Through this program, a VA social worker assesses your needs and arranges for an aide to come to your home on a regular or intermittent basis to provide services such as personal grooming, getting dressed, mobility assistance and grocery shopping. To qualify for this program, you must be eligible for community care, a program that’s open to those qualified for VA medical care but unable to obtain services at a VA hospital or clinic conveniently.
What is private pay home care?
Private pay home care is the most common way to pay for home care services. With this payment option, you pay for services using your own resources rather than public assistance programs such as Medicaid. Even if your retirement income isn’t enough to cover monthly services, you may be able to pay out of pocket for services by taking out a reverse mortgage, purchasing an annuity or through collective sibling agreements.
