"I think Madison Heights Co-op Apartments is an excellent choice for placement for someone who prefers to live independently and is looking for an apartment for themselves, a friend, or a family member to live in. The common areas are beautiful and the surrounding areas are also beautiful, nice, very quiet, and very low crime rate areas if any. Madison Heights Co-op apartments are affordable low income beautifully maintained and structured apartments. They are like living in luxury style apartments and the surrounding neighborhoods are also very nice, quiet and beautiful. It is a 6 floor senior community apartment. They provide their seniors with Birthday parties, Luncheons for their residents, dinners for their residents and many other services and amenities. They also offer their residents a building van and this senior community takes many trips in their onsite van; to the casino, Frankenmuth, malls, etc. This senior apartment building has 151 apartments for their seniors to live in a luxury and affordable life style for those seniors that are on low income budget or a low fixed income budget. They can have an increased chance to live in elegance and luxury also. Madison Heights Co-op Apartments is an ideal and a great place for any senior to enjoy their golden years and enjoy a very nice suburban life style. The residents there are a team together and they like it there. They enjoy ice cream together there. They socialize and interact with one another there also and they seem to be very happy there. They offer their seniors there an array of services and amenities there. They have their very own library, recreational and activity rooms, central air conditioning, heat all are also included in their rent. They provide building activities for all of their seniors to enjoy. They provide Social activities on a daily basis for their residents. Can you believe all of this for a low income and affordable budget? They also offer their residents coffee shop for them to meet each other and socialize and interact with one another on a daily basis. In general, I would rank this facility a five stars rating for their excellence and expertise for providing luxury apartments for low income seniors to live in. "

"My uncle has moved into American House Sterling Woods. I like the staff. They're very friendly, very helpful, and very caring. The accommodations are nice, clean and updated. The location is excellent. It's near my house and near regular shopping. They have an onsite nursing staff, which is very helpful. The facility is very clean. The food is good; it's not the greatest, but it's not like eating hospital food."

"Baldwin House Hazel Park was nice, but they were kind of strict about the regulations for getting in. It was going to cost me way too much to put down to get in there. The $1,500 fee that you have to pay to buy in, plus you have to pay all of your utility bills. If you can't get your utilities turned on in your name, you can't get in. They were less than flexible about working with me on how much they had to have upfront and I couldn't afford it. Everybody was nice over there, but I didn't think they would be a very good value for the money. There were lots of activities, but half were going out to eat and you got to pay for that. So, if you're paying for an activity that you end up having to pay for again, I didn't think that was such a good bargain. There was a laundry room on each floor. The room had a nice kitchen and the layout was pretty good. It had a pretty good-sized living room with a little patio. The bedroom was big enough to fit at least a queen-sized bed comfortably. The dining area was nice. They had an activity room, and they put the library and everything in there. They remodeled it and it looked nice now."

"American House East I Senior Living is a big community, so they have a lot of things going on. They have their own chapel. The design is more updated than the other facilities I’ve seen. But my mom didn’t like the facility, because it’s darker, and all the activities happen in the basement, and she didn’t like that. "

"I toured American House East I Villas. It was wonderful. The administrator or the contact person was very knowledgeable and helpful in answering questions. She was very kind in showing me the property and explaining everything. The apartments were beautiful and orderly. It was set up wonderfully. I was able to see the dining area and I was very impressed. The lounge area was great. They have plenty of room for people to move around, whether in a wheelchair, walker, or whatever."

"I visited American House, and it was very nice. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The dining area was spacious and well organized. They had good cooked food. The grounds were very nice, private, and well-kept. You would be able to walk the grounds and enjoy nature. "

"American House East II was a very nice place, but a little overpriced for us. The tour was very good. It's a single story. It looked clean and very well-kept. You had to pay separately for your electricity and heat. If you have your phone and television, it wasn't included in the price, and that's why it was a little too pricey for us. I liked it, though. The staff was awesome. She was wonderful, very nice, and knowledgeable. We saw the menu and the dining area. It was very nice. It was like being in a restaurant."

"I visited Pine Ridge of Plumbrook. The rooms were quite adequate and more impressive than the other places that I looked at. The staff seemed very responsive. They seemed to have quite an activity. They had movies, outing, crafts, and bingo. What stood out to me was that everything was inclusive. I would consider the place for my loved one. "

Barton Towers Co-op is located near downtown Royal Oak and is a 15-story, 210-unit senior community for affordable living ages 62 and over. A limited number of apartments are available for younger persons who are physically disabled and need the special features of a unit designed for the mobility impaired. Barton Towers is nationally recognized as “A Community of Quality” by the National Affordable Housing Management Association. The property was completed in 1983 and has been recently remodeled. Barton Towers is gradually transforming into a 100% smoke free co-op. While no one is allowed to smoke in any common area and within 25 feet of the building, there are approximately ten members who are still permitted to smoke in their own apartments because they signed a waiver prior to the full implementation of the new smoking rules. All new members as of 8/18/2012, are not allowed to smoke inside their own apartment. Resident members enjoy the peace and privacy of their secured apartments with all apartments above the first floor having walkout balconies overlooking downtown Royal Oak. Members enjoy activities such as line-dancing, bingo, monthly birthday celebrations, supper, holiday celebrations, Wii exercise, along with trips to nearby shopping malls, casinos, cider mills, and theaters. Barton Towers is conveniently located within two miles of the I-75 expressway and is near many local attractions such as the Detroit Zoo, Stagecrafter Theater, Royal Oak Farmer’s Market and the Emagine Theatre. Barton Towers is also within walking distance to various shops, drug stores, library, restaurants, art gallery and the local police and fire departments. Barton Towers is affordable for everyone. Rent is based on a percentage of the household's income.

"I will be moving into Pine Ridge of Garfield. I liked the tour I had. They have field trips, shopping, card games, and all kinds of activities. The apartment I saw had a bed, a refrigerator, a stove, a kitchenette, heating, and electricity. It's a one-bedroom with a living space. The facility was not perfect, but it's very nice."

"It had a lot of stuff to offer. It's a nice place. The apartments were nice. They have a movie night. They go on little shopping trips. They have a nice dining area. The staff was nice and informative."

"We were really pleased with Mary's Center for Seniors because it was smaller. The staff were all very nice and they were able to let my sister-in-law get out of her room and go to the dining room every day. She is only there for about a month. The rooms were a little small, but it was adequate for her. The dining room looked homey. You could watch the staff prepare the food and the looked very nice. They were doing a few activities, but she couldn’t participate because of her dementia. The place wasn’t fancy and that is what we really wanted for her. "

I met three people there: the receptionist, the tour guide, and a bartender. They were very helpful, very kind. They saw me at the last minute."
