I toured American House Troy. It was clean. They had nice furnishings, and they had enough TVs around. Everything was nice. The staff was pretty good. They had a dining room, and that looked good. The menu looked good, but I didn't get to see what it was during mealtime.

Provider Response

Jun-03, thank you for taking the time to visit our community! We appreciate your feedback.

I like the staff at American House Troy. They're nice to my mother and us as a family. They are very courteous and concerned. The rooms are nice and big enough for a walker or a wheelchair. Cleanliness is really good. The food delivery is good. The meals appear to be very good, too, nutritionally based. The residents get a choice. Every day they can choose between one item or another item and my mother seemed to like the food there. They have a beauty salon and a dining room. They offer transportation if you want to go to a doctor's appointment or shopping trips if you want to go to a Myers. They have entertainment that they bring in. They have games and a little community area where a lot of residents can work jigsaw puzzles. They have a medical team on staff as well. Rent is kind of high, but overall considering the rent in other places and for what you get, it's way more.

Provider Response

Robin, thank you for the 5-star review of our community! We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and being so open with us!

American House Troy is located fairly close to my family, which is very good. They have available parking close to the apartments. The laundry is close to the apartments. It is very promising. The staff are extremely patient. They are extremely pleasant and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. I also noted that the residents were happy, chatty, and smiling; therefore, something must be going right. At the moment, they are having some shortages of employees in dietary. They are not using the dining hall at supper. They are delivering meals to each person's apartment, but that will be corrected as soon as they can hire enough employees. The place was clean. There were no body odors on the floor. When I toured through, there were people gathered in different places, in different rooms, and doing different things. The activities director was very busy. He had lots of things to do, so that's impressive. The menu looked good. I did not eat a meal there, but it did look good and diversified. I was introduced to the head of housekeeping. The two-bedroom apartment comes with a dishwasher, even though you have meals available should you choose. Every apartment has a balcony or a patio. The only thing that is lacking compared to other people is they do not have a basement, so there is no basement storage. That doesn't affect me because I travel light, but it may be of some concern to some people who have lots of treasures at home.

My wife has moved to American House Troy. The staff so far is good, and they have amenities like a gym and salon. They're having some staff issues, so it's hard getting food delivered. They have lots of activities, they have a sing-along, bingo, a lot of scrabble, and exercise. It's near hospitals and restaurants.

Provider Response

Richard, thanks so much for your feedback! We appreciate you being open and honest with us.

So far, we're pleased with American House Troy. It's only been a month. It's maybe too early to tell, but overall I would say we're happy. I don't know how many units they have, maybe over 100. It's 3 floors. I don't think they have any studios. They're 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments, two wings, and the center is a lobby and cafeteria. They have an on-site rehab facility. They use a company called the Medical Team for their elderly care services. They have a nurse there about 40 hours a week too. They have a laundry service and housekeeping service once a week. They make the beds and empty the garbage daily. They have a small movie room, a small community card game room, and a beauty salon. They also have coin laundry if they want to do their own laundry. My dad's really happy with the food. I think because of Covid, it's hard because they're serving everything; they're not eating in the cafeteria. It makes it really hard since they deliver food every day in Styrofoam.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your feedback, Tom. We are honored to serve your family.

I visited this facility

I toured American House Troy, and I didn't like it. I didn't care for the way they charge different things, but the tour was good. The girl that assisted us was very good and encouraging, but I didn't like the place. Unfortunately, because of Covid they have very little going on, and I understand that. I know they play cards and have bingo. It has most of the amenities that almost every one of these places have with very little difference. I saw the 2-bedroom unit, and I thought the kitchen was very dark and the rooms were very small. I didn't come in contact with any staff member except the girl who was showing us around and doing the tour.

Provider Response

Barbara, we appreciate your feedback and encourage you to elaborate on your experience with us. Please feel free to call our Home Office. We look forward to hearing from you.

My mother is on the assisted living part of American House Troy. It's clean, people are very friendly, and she has her own apartment, which has a little kitchenette. Somebody comes in and cleans for her. It's perfect for her and she loves it. She's been there for several years; it's nice. The staff does a great job; they really do a good job with her. From what I can see that she's eating, she seems to like everything, and if she doesn't like it they would substitute it, so she never complains. It's beautiful, very, very nice, and well-taken care of. In the beginning they had a lot of activities, but it waned off a bit. There is plenty to do. They have bingo, cards, and movies, there's a rec room over there, a place to do puzzles, arts and crafts, and you're free to go outside and walk around the grounds or sit on the benches over there. A lot of people do that, just sit around outside over there.

Provider Response

Therese, your kind compliments mean the world to our team at American House! It is our pleasure to serve our residents and their families each and every day. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

American House Troy Senior Living had very friendly staff and administrators. It's a very good value for the right guest. If you have certain needs, they would be an excellent value. They offer government subsidies for the right candidate. It's clean, but a little bit older, and it needs a little updating. They provide three meals a day.

I moved into American House, it's like an apartment complex, and it's very nice. The staff is very nice and very helpful. They prepare meals for us, the food is really good, and the dining area is very nice. They have a library, a weight room, and they have a lot of games throughout the day and evening.

American House is really nice, but the hallways are too close. There's a cramped feeling in it, and there's no way for people to be outside. However, it has a cozy, and pleasant atmosphere. There were different sizes of apartments, and the staff worked well with the residents. You can have a washer and dryer in your own unit, they serve 3 meals, and the menus looked good.

It was beautifully ornate as you walked into the lobby of American House. When I looked at the apartments that they offered, I thought the bedroom and living room were small. The amenities were very nice, but it was expensive, and I couldn’t afford it. They had an exercise room, they had a van that took you within a 10-mile radius of place, and they had a dining room and a library.

American House Troy was quite far, but it sounded like a pretty decent operation out there, and something that I would have recommended. The staff seemed to have good interaction with the residents, and to me, that’s something seemingly important. Their price was a little high, but reasonable.

I lived in the American House and loved it. I had a one-bedroom apartment and would go down and play games with the people and do all kinds of activities with them. However, I had an accident with fire, so they kicked me out and told me that I cannot go back there.

I visited American House, but it was so expensive that I couldn't afford it. It's fantastic and had everything anybody could ever want, including meals, but it starts at $1,800. They don't have bad food, but it's old people food. I'm 70, but I'm not eating mush, that's for sure.

I found the staff at American House Troy Senior Living to be extremely helpful. I liked the size of the rooms and thought they were adequate. I liked what they had to offer and thought the rate was very competitive. The dining room was fine. All of their rooms were very pleasant. They were very nice and gave us a gift of a pecan pie, which was absolutely delicious. They had amenities. When we were visiting, there was a group coming back from a day out shopping or something. It was nice to see that they took the time to take the seniors to outside activities. That was something I would want for my mother. I thought it was a safe place to put a loved one and very accessible, so you would be able to visit them and bring them to your house. It was a very safe and caring place for your loved ones.

American House Troy Senior Living is a very large facility, so Mom would have to do some walking from one place to another. I feel they would not be able to check on Mom as much as we want them to. The price goes up as you add on more services for the resident.

My mother is at the American House in Troy. It's closer to her relatives than where she was previously. They have free seating in the dining room, which is very important, because she doesn't want to be assigned to a table. The apartment has all of the physical attributes that she wants as far as walk-in closets, a large pantry, linen closets, and two bedrooms. The only deficiency is there's only one bathroom. She wanted at least a bath and a half to two baths. They serve very good food. They have a number of outings, programs, and activities. However, they should improve on the amount of services provided. My mother likes to go to church. They do have services, but she would like to go to a nearby Catholic church, and they don't provide any transportation for that.

I visited this facility

The population of the American House in Troy did not quite meet my mom’s needs, and the hallways were narrow so she did not really feel like she would fit in. My parents seem to be a little bit more medically fragile at the time. We did a visit, and she was very friendly. The staff was nice, attentive, and friendly as well, but she decided she did not like this place as much as the other two we visited. She and I were not impressed with it. It had tight doorways, and the kitchen was obstructed. The layout was not compatible for a wheelchair to get in and out of very well.

Provider Response

We chose American House (Troy Senior Living) because it seems quite nice. The people were nice. The things that they were offering seemed to fit for our aunt. The staff were very nice, helpful, and informative. They take the seniors out on shopping trips and field fields. They also have bingo and cards and they play Wii. The residents are very active and we thought that would be good. The food seems excellent and she enjoys it. They told us that they have a particular chef who prepares it. It worked out so far very well.

Provider Response

Thanks for leaving such a thoughtful review, Linda! We are glad things are working out well for your aunt. We do have quite a few amenities, activities and services and our staff works hard to make American House Troy a true community. We also take pride in our food, so thanks for noticing! The residents of American House Troy were very active, much more so that what we found in other facilities. It's a very nice facility. My dad has his own apartment. They have a lot of activities to keep everybody busy, they provide transportation a couple times a week to local shopping centers. The medical staff just seems very nice, very friendly, and they have some kind of an ala-carte system. It's really an independent living place, but we are able to purchase the services that we need for my dad to be taken care of. We are very happy with it and it's close by to all of us, which was a big requirement. It needed to be able to take animals and this place just meets all of our needs. There had been some things that we've not been happy with, but they are kind of minor.

Provider Response

You're certainly correct, K2, we try our hardest to schedule all sorts of activities to interest all our residents and provide many opportunities for socialization! And we find that our residents and their loved ones appreciate that we offer an a la carte system so residents aren’t paying for things they don't need. If you would like to stop by my office, I'd be happy to address your minor concerns with you. My door is always open.

This is a lovely location to place a loved one. It allows them the freedom to be active on campus whether your family member prefers either a more secluded life style or one where you are a social butterfly. The rooms are spacious with special precaution given to those that might need added help while staying at American House. Safety and quality of life are two very important themes. There is a gym facility and even a boutique for special occasions. The staff is always courteous to residents and family alike while maintaining the grounds. The staff also gives the residents space so they can have freedom on campus to enjoy what they have to offer. As a family member we are allowed visitation at any time so long as it is not late so to not disturb the other residents. Not only does the staff encourage frequent visitations but those on campus are given scheduled transportation to functions and sites near by. This gives the residents a wider picture than most homes I have had the experience to see.
