"My mom moved to Golden Grace by Majestic Residences. They've been very caring. They're also very good at helping with the transition because we just moved there. The food was very good. There was no smell. Everything was clean and dusted. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It's not a large facility, but for a group home, it's laid our very well."

"The StoryPoint in West Bloomfield was very nice. The staff that I was introduced to seemed very professional. It was clean and secure, and it looked like the activities would be good for my sister. She would also be able to interface with other people, so that would be good to energize her brain a little bit. It was just a little above what we would feel comfortable paying for her. We looked at their memory care facility, and I thought the apartments were very adequate. It would be enough for her, the bed and the little table. The bathroom is also right there, and we were concerned about the fact that she needs assistance with toileting to get her to the bathroom. She has neuropathy in her feet, so she doesn't move fast enough. I didn't sample any food at all, but I know there's a chef there. I also saw the schedule and the selection of food that they have on the menu. The staff appeared to be very accommodating to the clients. They were right there, and the clients were dining when I went through, and they had people there who could assist them. I was very impressed."

"We were very impressed with Fairmont of Farmington Hills. The staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable. The rooms were a little smaller than I expected, but they were nice. It was a comfortable living environment. The residents that I saw there seemed to be happy. They were in the process of doing some renovation."

"My mom moved into StoryPoint Farmington Hills a year and a half ago. It was built not that many years ago, so the rooms are well laid out and modern. Everything is well kept up and has been recently updated. Her walk-in shower is better than any shower in my house! The meals are constantly changing with continual input from residents. There are snacks available 24/7. StoryPoint hosts frequent parties, holidays, and celebrations which offer different and elevated food options in addition to lots of fun activities. The rest of the residents here have all been kind and welcoming. There are plenty of different activities each day to choose from to keep anyone interested. Truly, the best thing about this place is the staff. They are all so very friendly and everyone is helpful. All members of the staff greet you and introduces themselves. From the gentleman who cleans her room, to the extremely welcoming front desk, to the office staff, and to every medical professional on staff. Everyone I have talked to seem to really like their jobs and working at StoryPoint. Everyone will offer to help you directly with whatever you need or find the person who can help you if they can’t. We are really glad that we made the choice to have mom live here. She is really enjoying her new home."

"We're quite satisfied with Pleasant Valley Family Care. It's like a nursing home, only it's a private home and they're licensed by the State. They give my husband everything that a nursing home would. It's pretty good right there. I have high respect for all of them. His room is not huge, but it's plenty big. He has a La-Z-Boy chair, a chest of drawers, a table, a bed, and his own bathroom. It's the cleanest place I've ever been. When you enter, you have to either take your shoes off or put on those plastic booties. There is a little porch in the front where you could go out and sit if you want. They have a chair out there, and those in wheelchairs can bring their wheelchairs out to the front of the house and look at the outside for a while. The staff is the best. They have a piano player that comes in, they have a guitar player that comes in, and they have somebody that comes in and does stuff with the patients. It's every week that someone is there."

"I went to look here. The staff member was wonderful. She was personable and had a lot of different ideas that she came up with that could be implemented in taking care of my friend. She was like a warm campfire that I was very comfortable with. She was very caring and genuine. The rooms were older and smaller. It was an older establishment, but it was beautifully run. It's a wonderful place. I saw the dining area, but we didn't eat. There was a wonderful staff that really took care of them. One woman was doing everybody's hair for them, which is just a very cool thing to see. They were going on a little boat tour with some people there, so they're very active. They have a lot of activities, like bingo going on in one place and storytelling in another. The hallways were narrow. I really liked them."

"My mom moved into Farmington Hills Inn. It offered the most services for her at the best price. The staff was very helpful, very thorough, contacted us, called back, and helped us through the process. Her room is a little on the small side, but it has a nice, private patio. It seems to be what she needs at this stage in her life."

"My brother was a resident at Chester St Residence for 22 months. The care he got at CSR was exceptional. He was in another facility before and was spending more time in the hospital than at the facility. He is a fragile diabetic and needs precise diabetic care as well as good nutrition. He got both of these at CSR. The staff was always on top of his blood sugar and how he was feeling/doing. In the 22 months there, he only had to go to the hospital two times. Both times when he was transported to the hospital, Marty, the owner of CSR, went with him and stayed with him until I could arrive from 90 minutes away. This level of personal care is the rule not the exception at CSR. Being it is a small facility (39 beds), all of the staff were very familiar with him and gave him personal attention and loving care. They made him feel like they were all friends and that they cared about him as a person. Especially Ms. Latreece who cried when he had to leave to go to a Medicaid nursing home fearing he wouldn't be getting the level of care he needed. And, although he is getting excellent care there, he misses the family atmosphere and the personal caring touch he got at CSR. The food there is homemade, nutritious, great tasting and well balanced with the needs of the residents in mind. Mozza, the cook, is fabulous. She makes sure each resident gets the proper food for their needs and even makes homemade Birthday cakes for them! John, the maintenance man and Jack of all trades, is always there to help. He has a terrific sense of humor (as only a stand up comedian - his passion - can have). He makes everyone smile and brightens their day with his quick wit and friendliness. I also was happy with the security at CSR. The resident's family member has a key card to get in and out but all others must be buzzed in and are checked out by the staff. So your loved one is safe and they cannot wander out because the key card is needed to get out also. I highly recommend CSR to anyone who has someone who needs not only great care but would love to feel like they are at HOME. "

"At Magnolia by the Lakes, I saw the assisted living rooms on one side of the road and I saw the senior living on the other side. They said that we could have a senior living apartment on the third floor, which was a two-bedroom and I would love to have stayed there. I would like to have gone there. I did not have any food but the person who was kind of a salesperson told me that they don't really spare anything on their food and that they have good meals that occasionally they might even have steak or something special. She was kind of bragging about the owner too. This person was a physician and I was told that she used to own hospice centers around the United States or something and sold them. She had this place because she felt the seniors deserved to live very nicely. I like the philosophy of what I heard about her. I did not meet her though. There was a room on the 3rd floor that we could have had in the senior living section. My husband could live there and they said they could give him assisted living and that I could live there too. It's a 2-bedroom place but it was going to be around $10000 rather than $5,000 or $7,500. It was very, very lovely. The carpeting maybe was a little bit older, but it still was lovely and clean. It's 2 bedrooms and the kitchen is better than the kitchen in our house that we've lived in for 50 years. The cabinets were first class, nice countertops, the carpeting was like a lighter gray shade, which was nice, and a nice-sized area for the full washer and dryer. It has nice walk-in closets for the two bedrooms, the bathrooms were big and it has a lot of shelves or drawers in the cabinets. I loved it, it just costs too much. The person who helped me or showed me around was very pleasant, down to earth, and seemed very kind. I don't know what the experience would be if you lived there so I would skip the rating though because she was just a salesperson. I toured the assisted living side too and I felt it was a little bit dark. There's a room there where you can watch movies, and it had the amenities but to me, it seemed a little dated. I can't remember if it was red and gold but it kind of looked more like a hotel. I had a heavier feeling in there rather than light and cheerful. They showed me one room, which if I signed up right then and there, would be like $5000 but it was a very, very small room and it needed some updating. It just would not have worked for my husband. I also saw a nursing station there and there were a couple of nurses or assistants. I didn't talk to them, but I saw them working and taking care of patients in their rooms. The rooms, just by glancing at them, seemed crowded and older. Maybe the patients had been there for a long time. If I were living there, I think we would be quite happy because there is a nice balcony with a sliding door, and when you're on the balcony, there is a strip of houses kind of below you and you have a lake view. You would probably see boaters in the summer too."

"My mom is currently in American House Stone and I love it there. They have very well-kept-up grounds with a couple of gardens, they call them the hummingbird gardens. They got a little lake or retention pond behind the building that you can walk through, but it's fenced off so you can't get to it, but it's good. The grounds are very well-maintained. Her apartment is very nice. They go from pretty good-sized one-bedroom ones to a pretty big studio. We have Mom in a little one but it's all she needs and it's safer. They've got a lot of activities like music, singing, bingo, and puzzles, they do hallway bowling and hallway ring toss. They're very active and they have a bus that goes offsite once a week. The food that I had was really good. The staff that I got to know are all good, they definitely go above and beyond. They keep eyes on my mother and other residents, they know them by their names, and say hi to them in the hallways. They also check on them when they don't have to, and the people there that are not technically independent get by very nicely. It's actually less than what we're paying before, and we're getting more for the money."

"American House - The Village was much nicer than other places. I visited three, and this would be my number two choice. I wouldn't mind having my parents stay there. The buildings were very nice. They took us around and showed us one room that would be available. They put fresh carpet in, and everything is repainted every time a tenant moves out and a new one comes in. It was very nice. I'd give them four stars only because they were a little broken up/spaced out. They were in a different type of community; I wouldn't say it was bad, but they had completely different buildings in different places, and so I don't know if everything was available in that building or if they had to go to another building. They even had houses there. "

"I went here. This was a high-class place. When you walked in, it was elegant. That was like the regular assisted living and such, and then you went into the memory care part, and it was the same as the assisted living with the same set-up building. It was clean, cheerful, and elegant. The staff were very nice. They seemed very attentive. They were great. They seemed to have activities going on, and they're right next to a dog park, which for my mother would interest her. If she couldn't be at the dog park, she would be able to watch the people and their dogs, which is equally as enjoyable. They had it all. They had the gym. They had a nice courtyard. They do activities with them. They've got a weekly sheet of what they do every day, and it seemed to be pretty active. In terms of location, for me, I live in Troy, so it's close. It's a very lively area."

"The owners and employees treat the residents as if they are family. It is very clean and has no medicinal smell. The food is made mostly from scratch and they adjust for each resident's dietary needs. Each person's clothing from the day is cleaned at night and their night clothes are cleaned during the morning. Each resident has their own furnished room with a large flat screen TV and cable. Residents each have a sit to stand recliner to relax in during the day. Ahava brings in a recreational therapist twice a week plus bingo twice a week, and an art instructor once a week. In addition, a nurse visits regularly and they arrange for residents to have PT and/or OT as needed. The doctor comes regularly as well."
