"The manager and supervisor from Courtyard Manor of Fenton came to visit me, and then the next day, the supervisor came with papers to sign. I could see no other recourse, and that sounds really good to me, so exactly a week later, I moved in. I'm very happy. Everybody is very pleasant. Everybody smiles. Everybody does whatever they can to be helpful. This is a really, really grand place to be. We had a birthday party yesterday for a lady. She turned 106. They had a big party, her whole family came to visit, and everybody partied down. There were young and older kids, and it was really cool. The staff is excellent. The food is excellent, too. It has a nice, big backyard. You can go out and enjoy the sun or the moon or whatever it is that's going on. It has a patio that's got a roof over it. Even if it's raining or snowing, you can go out on the back porch and enjoy the outdoors. That's absolutely beautiful."

"The one that I liked the best was Charter Senior Living of Davison, but they didn't have any room available. They had a physical therapy department right there on site, so they could get physical therapy every day if they needed it. They had individualized meals. Your pets were allowed. They had individual heating. The staff was very welcoming, but the ratio from caregiver to patient was too high - 1 to 10. The food that I had there had taste, and it was easy to eat. They would bend over backward to get you whatever you needed. They had a gym onsite, a chef on site that you can have several choices as to what you want to eat, and they had a beautician and a podiatrist that came on site."

"My sister and her husband liked Americana Seniors of Davison. The rooms looked nice, and they had their own kitchenette and everything in there. They had a little back porch where they could go outside and sit. The staff was great. They answered all our questions. They had their own laundry room, and my sister could go and do her laundry, but they had someone that would go with her and make sure she didn't fall or anything. The facility was quite spacious. They had a crafting area. She liked it, but they couldn't afford it."

"My mother-in-law is a resident of The Pines of Goodrich. It is great; it is very nice. The staff members are wonderful. They provide around-the-clock care. My mother-in-law's room is spacious, beautiful, and very clean. Their dining area is very nice, clean, and accommodating. Their dining area is wonderful and more like a restaurant. It is a real gathering place. The food is good too. We never have to worry about my mother-in-law there. They're all wonderful, they know her, and they know us. It has been a real relief. The activities are very nice. It is pretty pricey, but it is worth it."

"We've toured Symphony Linden and it was nice. The staff was very helpful and the food was wonderful. They had a gym, a lounge, and a room where you could go and watch movies. It was nice. The place itself was clean, there wasn't anything that was not nice about it."

"I love StoryPoint Fenton, but it's too expensive for my brother-in-law. It's beautiful. The whole facility is top-notch. It is very open and welcoming. There is a huge gathering area. The receptionist is right there to greet you. They had the director right away, and they took me to a model room that was set up. It was a one-bedroom and it had a refrigerator. It was very, very nice. However, that was an assisted living senior community, and that was not what I was looking for. I was looking for memory care-assisted living. They would do an assessment of my brother-in-law before he was allowed to live there. He probably could fit into the assisted part of it, but that part was too big for him. It's all one level, which is good, but I think that with him getting himself from his room to where they have to go and eat would have been difficult, because the layout wasn't good for him in the memory state that he is in right now. I also went to memory care. It was beautiful. We walked through it. It was very nice. They have a nice little area where you could go in and sit by a fireplace and watch movies. The kitchen was right there. They only have 16 residents, which is nice. They were finishing up lunch when I got there. They have several little areas where you could sit down and have a conversation or play a game. The windows were on each side of a nice wide hallway. They showed me a room that my brother-in-law would have. It was a studio. Somebody had just moved out of there, and they were in the process of painting it and getting it freshened up for the next person to come in. It had a nice view out the window where you could put a bird feeder or whatever. All of his furniture could go in the room, too. Then the staff showed me where the patio was, and it was very nice. They have a grill out there where they would grill food for the people. It is also backed up to a wooded little area where you could see nature and sit out there. It was very welcoming and very comfortable. I told her that I would move in there myself right now, so that part of it was very, very nice. The residents that were there were more in line with what level my brother-in-law was at physically. He's very mobile, and he has no medical issues with his heart, legs, or lungs -- nothing. It is just his mind right now is having a problem. If money were not an object, I would have him go to StoryPoint just because of the aesthetics of everything."

"Vicinia Gardens of Fenton was a very nice community. The people that were there were also very nice. The facility was clean, spacious, and pretty nice. Their amenities were comparable to bigger places that we've seen, they have a community-type room for the residents, and they have a comfy and nice dining area. The rooms that they had left were private and nice. It would have worked for us but it was so far away."

"Everything was very nice over at Living Waters Buell Lake. The person in charge was very good. The place was clean. I remember they had a nice community room and they had an event going on that day. The kitchen looked very good. They did have a patio that looked out over a lake. The staff who gave me the tour was very family-oriented. The dining room looked like it was very well organized. It was a very clean- looking place and well-lit. It was a very simple place. It had 2 hallways and 19 rooms."

"My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"I live at Devonshire Retirement Village. We have a lot of activities. We have a calendar for the whole month. On Monday, we're going to the Goodwill, in December we have a Christmas ball, and we all dress up. We go into the other building, and the cooks make a meal for us. We get to dance. We went down and saw a Tiger baseball game twice since I've lived here. We play euchre, and once a month we have forums where if you have any problems you tell Sarah, and she tries to fix whatever the problem is. I have a dog, so they let us have animals. We get to go down and eat lunch in the cafeteria from 12:00 to 1:00, and today we had hamburgers, butterscotch pudding, and cheesy potatoes. They have coffee and orange juice. You have to pay for the soup and salad. They didn't use to charge, but now they charge $3 for the soup and $4 for the salad. The food is not bad. I pay $150 a month, and they bring my supper to my apartment at 4:30. This week on the menu, it says that I'm having tuna melt. I've eaten them here before, and I don't like them. I asked our cook Michael today if I could have something different. He said, "Sure, what would you like?" He's a great cook. Anthony is always in the other building cooking for them, but he comes over here once in a while, and he makes wonderful squash soup and he made it for my birthday. He's a super nice guy. On Sunday nights and Thursday nights, we can put our garbage in the hall, and they pick it up. Every other Tuesday, they come in and clean my whole apartment. They dust and they vacuum. Laura is wonderful. She does an excellent job. She has the key to my apartment, and I totally trust her. I saw her today and she washed the pee pads for my dog because they had urine and feces dried on them. She's a perfect girl. It's a locked place, so nobody can come in to your apartment, like off the street. You have to punch in a code. They have a storage unit here, and mine is loaded. We can put shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, clothes, suitcases and everything. They do excellent taking care of us. I'm happy with the staff. I've had disagreements with some of them, though. They told me I couldn't let somebody come in here and watch my dog while I went on vacation with my boyfriend unless they were a relative. They have pull cords in my bathroom, my bedroom and my living room. So if I fell or needed anything, someone comes from the building across the street and knocks on my door. They have a key to get in, and they come in and see if I'm all right. I'm happy with the food. I'm totally happy here. I've lived here for three years. I have a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, hall closet and laundry room. We can get manicures once a month. We play bingo. We have a bingo store and they give you bingo bucks and then you can buy stuff. They have all kinds of cookies, crackers, dried fruit, potato chips, and nuts. I pay $3,200 a month. I have to buy my breakfast food and if I want ice cream or extra stuff, I have to buy that myself."

"Shadowtree Lodge was very good. We were accepted there but they had to decline because they didn't have the 24-hour care that my dad needed. The staff was very friendly. I wish we could have gotten him in that place. It was nice. They had a bunch of board games and stuff. I saw the kitchen and the laundry room. It was just like a regular house. They had a big kitchen table where all the residents had dinner there. It was really nice and really clean. It looked like a lodge in the middle of the woods. It's beautiful."
