"We liked Lockwood of South Lyon because of its location, the apartment size, and its layout. The room that we're going to have will be large enough, under 1,000 square feet, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, so it's very spacious. The staff was very good. The dining area looked very nice. They have a beauty salon, a library, local transportation, and health care services available if you need to contract for them."

"I am moving into Vicinia Gardens Independent Living. I liked the facilities and the amount of social interaction that's available. It was just a very nice place. They had exercise classes, book clubs, and card games. I liked the apartment setup. I will be in a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment."

"I love StoryPoint Fenton, but it's too expensive for my brother-in-law. It's beautiful. The whole facility is top-notch. It is very open and welcoming. There is a huge gathering area. The receptionist is right there to greet you. They had the director right away, and they took me to a model room that was set up. It was a one-bedroom and it had a refrigerator. It was very, very nice. However, that was an assisted living senior community, and that was not what I was looking for. I was looking for memory care-assisted living. They would do an assessment of my brother-in-law before he was allowed to live there. He probably could fit into the assisted part of it, but that part was too big for him. It's all one level, which is good, but I think that with him getting himself from his room to where they have to go and eat would have been difficult, because the layout wasn't good for him in the memory state that he is in right now. I also went to memory care. It was beautiful. We walked through it. It was very nice. They have a nice little area where you could go in and sit by a fireplace and watch movies. The kitchen was right there. They only have 16 residents, which is nice. They were finishing up lunch when I got there. They have several little areas where you could sit down and have a conversation or play a game. The windows were on each side of a nice wide hallway. They showed me a room that my brother-in-law would have. It was a studio. Somebody had just moved out of there, and they were in the process of painting it and getting it freshened up for the next person to come in. It had a nice view out the window where you could put a bird feeder or whatever. All of his furniture could go in the room, too. Then the staff showed me where the patio was, and it was very nice. They have a grill out there where they would grill food for the people. It is also backed up to a wooded little area where you could see nature and sit out there. It was very welcoming and very comfortable. I told her that I would move in there myself right now, so that part of it was very, very nice. The residents that were there were more in line with what level my brother-in-law was at physically. He's very mobile, and he has no medical issues with his heart, legs, or lungs -- nothing. It is just his mind right now is having a problem. If money were not an object, I would have him go to StoryPoint just because of the aesthetics of everything."

"We liked Rose Senior Living at Providence Park. The general appearance was very nice. They had a library room that was full of plants and books with really tall windows. It was a wonderful library room. That was special and beautiful. The staff was very nice. The young man giving us the tour knew every resident by name. They had a movie theater there, some concerts, and non-denominational church services. The rooms for eating were very open and there were a lot of windows. So, there's a lot of sunlight coming through. I got a very good impression of the staff and the place was very nice."

"My father is in Brookdale Novi. The place is very nice and had just been remodeled, so the rooms were very nice. He seems to enjoy the food, so that is good. The facility looks a little bit older but is nice and very affordable for him. They seem to do a lot of activities, like trips. They have a little exercise facility, which he has been using. That is a great thing. He seems to be really happy there, and we seem very pleased with the place so far. "

"I visited this facility recently (January, 2018). I was really impressed with the cleanliness of this place, and the dedication of the employee who was working at that time. The owners were very nice, and took the time to answer all our questions to our satisfaction. When we got there, it was dinner time, and the residents were sitting down for their dinner. They all looked very neat and clean, and happy!! Really impressive!! Another plus is that they have all private rooms, which is hard to find in Ann Arbor. I would definitely move my dad here, but they had no vacancy. i will strongly recommend this place"

"I got to see the assisted and memory care at Atria Park of Ann Arbor. It was a very high-end, and a very nice facility. They had a chef that actually makes most of the food from scratch. They gave me a made-from-scratch hummus and pita bread as a gift. The director was incredibly honest too. She showed me everything I could possibly ask for before I even asked. She introduced me to residents, but since it was a very high-end place, it was very pricey. Even one of the residents said that it was very pricey, but said that the care was wonderful. It was definitely a beautiful place, but I'm afraid that due to my father-in-law's issues, it's not possible for him to be there. The amenities were very great as well. They had lots of different little garden areas, and ways of making the residents feel at home."

"I really liked them. It was a very nice facility, but the location was not ideal. It was a very modern and new building, and there's a lot of space. The staff is immunized. They have pretty much everything. I like the place, but it was miles away from anybody to visit. The staff was very interested. They were chatty on the tour. Everybody seemed committed towards the good of the facility for the residents. They're right next to a big garden center that gives classes, tours, and things. Every floor had a smaller private meeting room, if you wanted to stay up near your mom's room or down in the larger rooms on the main floor. It was very nice. The rooms all have about the same layout and the same size."

"I chose Independence Village of White Lake. One of the things I liked best about the view I have from my room is a beautiful pond with a fountain and courtyard. They have a lot of activities. There is an exercise room right next door. The washer and dryer are right next door. What I've had is very good and healthy meals. The people are very mobile, social, and everybody is going someplace, some activity."

"I'm in Rolling Hills Retirement Community. The thing that I like best is that it has garages. The building layout is identical to all the resort lifestyles community. They've used the same blueprints to build every facility. All utilities costs are included in the monthly rent and three meals a day are included in the facility rent. In my 12 months of living here, we've gone through a total of five activity directors. They seem to be having trouble holding on to employees. The activity that seems to be most popular is chair volleyball every day. They show a series of movies. There's a 150-seat theater where they show movies. They do little shopping jaunts several times a week. Close by is a Meijer store, a Target store, and Costco. They take the bus and go to those stores a few times each week. There's a lot of fried food, which is probably not good for any of us, and the quality of the food has seemed to decrease over the 12 months that I've been here. I don't think the corporation cares about the residents or the staff members as much as they should. The resident managers are not as conscientious or as well trained as they could be, in my opinion. There's been a lot of turnover in the people that take care of the dining room."

"Brookhaven was very nice, and the people were very friendly. I felt comfortable there, but they did not have wide doors. This was an older building and the doors weren’t 36-inch doors, which is what you need for a wheelchair. They had activities, different games, movie nights, and stuff like that. They had a bus to take them shopping and places. I talked to a friend and they liked it a lot. It was a very nice place, but they couldn’t accommodate a wheelchair in most of the rooms. Some of their stuff was nice, but it’s not conducive to someone in a wheelchair. A couple of the rooms we saw, we really liked, but then I asked if they would widen the doors, and they said that they couldn’t do that. "
