I am/was a resident of this facility

After waiting over 2 years for this place to open, I moved in. There have been so many changes. First, the manager was fired, replaced with someone else, they lost their leasing agent. Important items such as transportation to dr appts never got started to suddenly not allowed to use guest internet. Birthday parties cancelled because activity director didn’t feel it was worth her effort. They only go to the expensive dining establishments. Meals changed from lunch and dinner to breakfast and dinner at a cost of $12/meal. They now have a “bistro”. Food not served with plastic gloves. Meals are not made to order so if you have dietary restrictions, forget it. Only allowed 4 oz cup of coffee and small juice. Advertised as pet friendly yet at least 3 residents have been evicted because their dogs barked once in a while, only one trash shoot-the other trash area has one trash basket. No trash removal on weekends or holidays. The emts are there to take residents there to the hospital almost every day! One person was evicted because he harassed other residents, constant slamming of doors, food smells coming through the walls, told there would be a dr during the week, never happened but they have descent physical therapy and a beautician on staff. One resident wandered away and caused even drones to be sent looking for him. Another resident with cancer was left to languish with his dog. The manager refused to do a wellness check, a concerned neighbor did. He passed away 2 weeks later. During Covid, no precautions were taken nor were any taken during flu season. The “activity director” had no training, just was liked by the Lockwoods’, there is one “maintenance” person who is married to someone in bookkeeping. Does not know how to repair things. You have to ask for changes of batteries in the smoke detectors and for filters to be changed. No fire or tornado drills. Most residents didn’t even know there was a fire extinguisher much less how to use it. The aluminum siding is constantly hanging from the building. They have ants and other bugs all over. Flooring is coming up. People with walkers or wheelchairs are expected to live on the 2nd or 3rd floor- so what happens if there is a fire? The building loses power to the elevators every couple of months and this last year, did not pass the fire inspection in at least 9 apartments. This place has been opened 3 years and almost all of the first residents are gone. The manager is very vindictive and scares the residents. For awhile on social media, this was advertised as assisted living, now it’s supposed to be “luxury” apartments. Broken glass on sidewalks, sidewalks and parking not well salted. Bags of salt left at doors ( with no scoops) and residents are expected to put out the salt. Resulted in many slip and falls. Dying grass and plants.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. While we understand that not every experience will meet personal expectations, our community operates clearly defined standards designed to ensure a respectful, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for all residents. Lease decisions-including renewals-are made carefully and in alignment with these expectations, as well as our responsibility to the broader resident population. When those standards are not met, difficult decisions may be necessary to preserve the quality of life our community in known for, among others. We are proud of our newer community, the care we invest in maintaining and the positive experience enjoyed by most of our residents. As represented in our recent annual resident survey that 9 out of 10 residents stated they would recommend our community to others. Our team consistently works to address concerns in a constructive and professional manner. We wish you the best in finding a community that better aligns with your expectations moving forward.

I visited this facility

I toured Lockwood of Lyon. I like it, and it's probably at the top of my list, but I wanted to look at a couple of other places that aren't very far away from there before I make a decision. I have mobility problems, and I wish that Lockwood would have had some kind of a walker or something to help me get around a little more easily, although that's probably true for a lot of them. Maybe they expect people to bring a walker themselves. I use a cane, but a walker would certainly have helped make it more comfortable. The biggest thing is to have a washer and dryer in your own room. I saw a beauty parlor. I just passed by it. It's very nice, very clean, and very new. The person who gave the tour was very friendly and knowledgeable. The dining room looks very nice. They didn't serve lunch, but they evidently serve a bistro kind of lunch where you can get sandwiches or something. I went at lunchtime, and we didn't stay for lunch. The dining room looked beautiful, but we didn't go into it. The place was beautiful, too. It's brand new, only two years old.

I visited this facility

We toured Lockwood of Lyon. It's a beautiful community. The only downfall was the pricing, which I didn't think would be sustainable. The rooms were beautiful, with enough living space for a single person, and their amenities were very nice. There was a library and a movie theater area. They had breakfast and dinner available, and they also had a little snack shop with different things available. I'm not sure if you'd call it a snack shop or more like a small deli, but if you needed something for lunch, you could pick it up there.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I wasn't happy with Lockwood of Lyon because they've reduced the quantity and quality of the meals. I spoke with the administrator and with the head chef, and she has agreed to review the exact meals that I was complaining about and she also assured me that she will investigate the quality of the meats that we are getting. It's rather nice because it's set way back off the road on a large parcel of land, so we have a curving drive into the development. It's a very large apartment complex. We are on the very back corner, southwest, and we face small woods. It's nice because we have a lot of wildlife. Last night we had two deer in the yard, this morning, several rabbits, and a ton of birds. It's really like being out in the country. They have a rather small staff. There are two ladies who are cleaners, and they clean extensively long hallways. They also do minimal cleaning in all the rooms, if you want, or you can pass on the cleaning. The hallways are not carpeted. They are simulated wood on plastic tiles, so that we don't have the problem of the nasty carpets that some of the places are showing bad wear. We have a 12-passenger van that will take you shopping around the area and also to the banking center of the community every week. Once or twice a month, we do either a men's group or a women's group to a restaurant or even the mixed group. Everything is here in this community, so it's very nice even if you don't have a vehicle.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Our experience with Lockwood of Lyon has been very positive, with all of the staff being proactive in dealing with any needs we have had. The facility is kept very clean and is in excellent condition. The chef at their kitchen supplies high quality meals which we have enjoyed many times. We highly recommend this facility, our 90 year old mother lives on-site and has made good friends with other residents and is involved in extra activities and shared transportation trips.

I visited this facility

Lockwood of Lyon is amazing but it's very pricey. It's brand new and beautiful. It's an all-inclusive community. They have two meals a day that's provided. Utilities are all included. They have free use of a gym. At an additional cost, they have medical staff and PT available. All their housekeeping and everything are included. The staff who gave the tour was very good. She showed us all the different areas there. She was very thorough. She went over the differences between independent and assisted, and they could move to assisted living there if necessary.

We liked Lockwood of South Lyon because of its location, the apartment size, and its layout. The room that we're going to have will be large enough, under 1,000 square feet, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, so it's very spacious. The staff was very good. The dining area looked very nice. They have a beauty salon, a library, local transportation, and health care services available if you need to contract for them.
