"I love StoryPoint Fenton, but it's too expensive for my brother-in-law. It's beautiful. The whole facility is top-notch. It is very open and welcoming. There is a huge gathering area. The receptionist is right there to greet you. They had the director right away, and they took me to a model room that was set up. It was a one-bedroom and it had a refrigerator. It was very, very nice. However, that was an assisted living senior community, and that was not what I was looking for. I was looking for memory care-assisted living. They would do an assessment of my brother-in-law before he was allowed to live there. He probably could fit into the assisted part of it, but that part was too big for him. It's all one level, which is good, but I think that with him getting himself from his room to where they have to go and eat would have been difficult, because the layout wasn't good for him in the memory state that he is in right now. I also went to memory care. It was beautiful. We walked through it. It was very nice. They have a nice little area where you could go in and sit by a fireplace and watch movies. The kitchen was right there. They only have 16 residents, which is nice. They were finishing up lunch when I got there. They have several little areas where you could sit down and have a conversation or play a game. The windows were on each side of a nice wide hallway. They showed me a room that my brother-in-law would have. It was a studio. Somebody had just moved out of there, and they were in the process of painting it and getting it freshened up for the next person to come in. It had a nice view out the window where you could put a bird feeder or whatever. All of his furniture could go in the room, too. Then the staff showed me where the patio was, and it was very nice. They have a grill out there where they would grill food for the people. It is also backed up to a wooded little area where you could see nature and sit out there. It was very welcoming and very comfortable. I told her that I would move in there myself right now, so that part of it was very, very nice. The residents that were there were more in line with what level my brother-in-law was at physically. He's very mobile, and he has no medical issues with his heart, legs, or lungs -- nothing. It is just his mind right now is having a problem. If money were not an object, I would have him go to StoryPoint just because of the aesthetics of everything."

"I chose Courtyard Manor of Fenton for my aunt because the director was very knowledgeable and they seemed like they really care there. It was a very good decision. The size is small and she gets personal attention. The staff is wonderful. Her room is clean, comfortable, she can have any item she chooses from home, and it's very big too, its spacious. She's allowed to have a dog. They have indoor activities. I'm getting more than I pay for compared to the other places I've seen."

"My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"The guy that ran Orchard Hills Living was very sweet. It was assisted living, but they had memory care as well, which was very nice. They were willing to accept my friend's cat into the home as well. It felt very much like home, not like a facility. You could tell that someone was there constantly taking care of the elderly that were there. There were smiling faces all around and the owner was a joy. He was very sweet. The staff answered all the questions we had. The dining area was lovely. I did not see any activities, but my stepdad might've seen something because he was commenting about how everyone looks like they were having a wonderful time. Everything was amazing. I would trust them with even my parents if it came to a point where I wouldn't be able to take care of them myself."

"I went to The Avalon of Commerce Township. That's a nice place. The rooms are double the size of any of the other rooms of any place I was at. You could bring in a couch, you can bring in chairs and still have plenty of room. You can bring in a dresser. It's just lovely. And they have a different way of handling their food presentation, The dining room is set up for like five rooms that are in a particular area. And then the next area is going to a different dining room. And they move them around, which I think is pretty exciting. I remember him walking me through various doors to get to different areas of the facility. And one end is memory care, but you had to use a certain lock. It was just for employees. The other people couldn't open those doors. It was just to keep the people in a particular area. So, I thought the security was pretty good and the memory care people have their own courtyard, they can go outside. But in this courtyard is an interior courtyard and protected. I just really, really like that place. He told me that they have a routine. It's different every day, but they have routine things. When they get up in the morning and dress and so forth, then they might play table volleyball or something like that and then they do whatever they want and then they go to lunch, and in the afternoon they have other things that keep the people moving. I didn't like the exterior. It looks like a big manufacturing place. It's a big square building three or four stories high, and it's just not attractive. I was introduced to several people as we did our walk, and they were all just so friendly and calling the patients by name and being cheerful with them and responding to them. The staff in this place was very, very friendly. Every unit had its own sitting area with a television. You can have a television in your room, too. A lot of them don't let you do that. It was absolutely clean. The floors looked like you were going to skate on them. They were so shiny and clean."

"My Mother was diagnosed with Lew Bodies Dementia. One of the more challenging Dementias to manage. The staff were OUTSTANDING with my Mother's ever changing needs. While visiting with my Mother on many occasions I was able to witness first hand the attention not only to my Mother but others who Lived in Courtyard Manor Swartz Creek with her. The staff GENUINELY CARE for those they assist. When I looked for an Assisted Living/Memory Care for my Mother the most important thing to me was not how fancy or expensive the building was or was not but rather how will the staff take care of my Mom. I felt Very much at Peace with my Mother at Courtyard Manor Swartz Creek. It's not the building or the business it's the GIVERS OF CARE. "I would not recommend Cranberry Park West Bloomfield for memory care. I took a picture of the food they served my husband for dinner one night, and it was a cup-sized chili, a small croissant with such a thin layer of either chicken salad or tuna salad on it that you couldn't even see it without lifting the bread, and a juice. The facility was clean. The first thing they tell you is they will keep your loved ones safe, but they did not do that. I was just so upset that my husband spent six days in the hospital until I could find another place to put him, and when we got that done, he only lived about nine days and died, and I blame it all on the fall. Another resident shoved him, went into the wall, hit his head, and then fell to the floor on his hands and knees. I had seen him that day, and he was functioning as good as he always has. He walked, he talked, he ate, and he could express his opinions. After that fall, I went to the hospital and saw him in an emergency room. I could not understand him because all he was talking about was gibberish. There was no program in trying to help his memory. I went in one day, and he was sitting all by himself in the dining room. On another day, he was in the dining room looking out the window. Nobody else was with him. If I had to do it over again, he would never have been placed there. The staff was OK. They were friendly, but they didn't give him much help. All they did was babysit. They didn't keep him safe. He was a big eater, and he would eat anything, but when I saw what they were giving him for dinner, that's all he had. As far as personalities go, the staff was very friendly, but they certainly did not do a good job with memory care. They were not trained for it. The only thing I ever saw them do was play balloon volleyball. They had puzzles set up and Legos and stuff like that, but nobody was ever there to help them. I saw one lady who was working on a jigsaw puzzle by herself. I think with the balloon volleyball, it was just my husband, and when I came in, I joined in, but the rest was all staff."

"I would definitely say Tranquility was a good place for my mom, my wife and I would visit her often and have either lunch or dinner with her which was always very tasty. The staff there is warm and friendly and I never had to worry about mom being bored because they have so many activities scheduled for the residents, in fact, I played many games with them myself and had a blast. My mother's room was very nice and clean too, she liked the fact that she had a housekeeper that would clean up daily and even make her bed!"
