"I went to New Haven Foster Care. The rooms were good sized. I liked that it was homey. It felt like you were in a house, although it had lots of bedrooms. They had a common area. Someone could stay in their room and not feel cramped and they could come out to the common area as they wished. The place was neat. The residents were watching TV. There weren't any planned activities going on. The staff person when I was there was pleasant and delightful, answered all my questions and told me things I didn't know I needed to know. The dining area was homey. It had a nice big table for group meals. The facility was well laid out. There were some larger rooms and some smaller rooms, and the price reflected the size of the room. Even the small rooms were pleasant and big enough. I wouldn't mind staying in the small room. I could spend some time in my room and be happy. They have a big backyard. You could have a TV in your room. There's not a salon, but they have people come in to provide those services. They didn't provide transportation for anything. That's the responsibility of the family."

"Bickford of West Lansing was a two-story building, but Mom doesn’t like elevators, and she has a difficult time with stairs. The staff was very nice, though. They were renovating and adding another building for memory care. I liked the setup because there were three communities on each level and each community had its own recreation/dining room area. The grounds were very nice and very impressive, and it was located in a nice part of the town."

"I found The Woodlands of DeWitt. I'm on a waiting list. I'll have my own villa. It has a huge kitchen, two bedrooms, a bath-and-a-half, and a garage. If something happens and I start to decline, they'll transfer me over to another building, so I never have to leave. That's my final home. I didn't ask about their meal plans because I'm going to have my own kitchen. Nevertheless, they have full menus there. They have a small gym and a nice deck you can go sit out on. They have lists of what's going on for the week if you want to join in. It's nice and clean, and you feel safe to walk around outside, which I'm looking forward to. Each unit has a washer and dryer, which is great. You can have housekeeping for $40 per session, which I don't plan on using, but you never know. I talked to one person, and that was the head lady, Yvonne. She was very open and willing to answer any questions. She was very friendly. She deals with people like me, who are still independent, people who need assistance, or people that are in hospice. She is really personable. We have a lot of things in common, which is great. When I walked into the villa, I was like, 'This is what I want.' Right off the bat, that is what I was thinking. You've got to go with that gut feeling."

"The apartment is big, freshly maintained, & comfortable. I like that Mother has a separate private bathroom. The whole staff treat us & my mother with respect, kindness, humor, & very caring. They do daily activities, I have seen this personally. We are able to visit, take a picnic, on the patio or they have a nice area we can sit near a fireplace. Sometimes we visit in Mother's room. We can take her out anytime. The meals I have tried are yummy & presented nicely. The Dr & nurse work with us. If mother needs emergency help she gets it! They give our family peace of mind & answer any questions. Story Point has been very accommodating. They let us use a separate room to celebrate my parents 70 Wedding Anniversary. I really feel about as good as I can in this situation. That's because I know Mother is in good hands. God bless them! "

"Pleasant Manor is very nice and clean, and the employees are very nice. They provide very good service and they're all very nice. The food and dining area is all good. We play games like cards, dominoes and such, and watch television. I have a very nice one-bedroom apartment with adequate closet and dresser. Everything is good here, and the layout is very nice."

"The Cortland Howell was a nice little facility. It was clean, but it's not what I expected. It's more of an assisted living. I saw a nice, small apartment. It had a refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink for a kitchen. It had lots of closets and storage space. I didn't sample their food, but I got a menu, and it's not quite what I want. Jordan was very nice."

"Vista Grande Villa was a very clean, attractive development. There were lots of choices in housing. They had a lot of amenities as to exercise and dining venues. The staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating. They have efficiency, one- and two-bedrooms, and some standalone units, almost like houses. I went into a one-bedroom apartment style, and then a two-bedroom house. There were courtyards that were private. There was a library, gathering rooms, and coffee shops. It was one of the better ones I've seen. It left a good impression."

"Kalkidan AFC 3 is fantastic and my mother's room is wonderful. The care has been very good; she's having her needs met. I'm there on a regular basis, it's always been clean, there's no unpleasant odor, and the patients are clean. I can't say enough good things about it. Because of the efforts of the woman that owns the place, Mother has put on weight. There are only six residents, and they conscientiously take care of all aspects required by their patients."
